Reviving My Late Friend's 1967 Dodge Coronet Restoration Project

- On today's episode, we look at a neat car with a somewhat depressing story. My friend Bill was an older guy, with a gruff attitude to match. A retired network and computer technician, he loved to fish, and he loved old Mopars. He liked to check in with us young Mopar nuts at our shop and tell us what we were doing wrong. And, bit by bit, he was restoring this Coronet to be a show worthy driver, before cancer got in the way. Bill is gone, but not forgotten. Time to get his car running again.
That’s a really nice car and I too went through 5 years of Hell with cancer treatments and I’m still alive and I’m still working on my 64 Dodge 440 trying to get all those little things fixed so I can drive it maybe some day.
Glad you’re still here with us. Keep doing it! Get that Dodge on the road!
@@DeadDodgeGarage I got my 1964 440 on the road finally.
@@DeadDodgeGarageYou should buy that car....I bet Bill loved you...hes just not one of those touchy feely guys....
RIP Bill......
And you are an idiot ❤
Hey I really like the channel!! Funny stuff 😅😅 Making me happy. I have health issues too. To ALL TRY TO BE STRONG AS POSSIBLE! WE NEED the good people on DDG THANK YOU
Hell yeah awesome man I hope you get many more years of enjoyment to come you earned her @@geebopbaluba1591
You said, "It's far from perfect." To which I replied (out loud, mind you) "But perfect from a-far"
I had a green 2 door 67 383. 2 barrel dark green really nice shape in around 1986..it was a coronet 440 model also there beautiful cars
A great sunny day to tell Bill's story it's crazy how car's bring people together and leave their mark with it.
Drove one just like this one all through high school.
Kudos to Bill for doing what he did to that car. One of the best designs to come from Detroit. Had 67 500. Great car. Cancerous suck. Lost my best man to it.
Wow - takes me back..my first car was a ‘67 Coronet 440 hardtop - 318 automatic, but light yellow with a black interior. Had to fix major rust and paint it in ‘75 - called every wrecking yard in the Buffalo and Rochester NY Yellow Pages (you youngin’s have no idea…) looking for front fenders and found three. Put Magnums and white walls on it after the paint was done. God, I loved that car - still have the left over front fender, all the trim and the Magnums in my loft. For the next one…
@ Rick Rice How did it start? Had a 68 Polara in Buffalo. Interesting starts in the winter!
@@lovetocrank Never had any problems with the old Highland Park Hummingbird in WNY - my dad had a’69 Polara that started fine, too - even after 18 year old me rebuilt the starter!
In memory of Bill , didn't know him but ill think of him. Cheers Sir.
Beautiful car Bill had, sorry to hear of his passing.
I can't believe I missed this video previously. I love 66-67 coronets. Thanks for sharing this jewel with us. This and the black one you also showed would be such a nice pair to have side by side in the garage.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Nice 67 Coronet when I was younger I had a chance to buy a 67 R/T Coronet and to this day I kick myself for not buying it.
Had a 66 Coronet in the late 70's ....got it cheap because the 318 poly had thrown a rod.
Took the 383 Magnum and 4spd/posi from a wrecked Super Bee and swapped them in.
Don't think it even cost me $600.... the good old days.
There was one in the family way back sans the 440 badge. It was gold with black interior. As a kid I admired the styling.
6x cancer survivor myself. Yes, it very much sucks...sorry to hear of your friends' passing.
As Norm MacDonald said once though - you don't lose to cancer. It dies with you. So that's a tie....🙂
On a more cheerful note, I have managed to bring my own Mopar back from the dead during
all the recoveries from this and that medical crap over the years (poorly made videos available
on my channel), so there's that I suppose.
Anyways, I'm still here and so is Fred the GTX and I guess that counts for something, right?
- Ed on the Ridge
I think that counts for a lot, Ed, and I’m glad you’re still here winning with us. Fred sounds awesome! I absolutely love that dark red color too. That has long been my dream paint color for various classic Mopars. My Charger’s repaint is a little lighter, but it’s supposed to be a darker shade similar to that, and will be again some day if I have my way. Anyway, thanks for being here.
Another great video DDG! I had the Plymouth version of this one, same color but a 383 two barrel , sold it to buy my first house. I need to find another.
You are the Doctor for any Mopar I would own.
Nice car. I love coronets. Sorry to hear about your friend. I recently lost an old friend I knew since the 1970s.
Cancer does suck. What a nice old Coronet, just needs some TLC.
What a beauty, and sorry for your loss. Great video!
Nice Coronet, I'd love to own it. Live it channel, I live about 10 miles east of Salem Oregon. I know you live in Washington state. I own a 1966 Coronet 440 that now has a 1969 imperial 440 that's been warmed over, I've had it 50 years now. Runs 12.50's at Woodburn dragstrip through the mufflers with slicks.
Well done Sir.
Beautiful!
Beautiful car! The 67’ coronet RT has always been one of my faves. 370hp is a really stout 318 by the way! I think Bill did a pretty good job of loving that car back to glory, I hope whoever ends up with it does the same. Great video Jamie, Bill sounds like one of those friends that was a challenge and probably made you grow from it😅!
To Bill 🍺
RIP BILL love your MOPAR . 👍🏻🇦🇺💯⛽️
I enjoy seeing you revive the patient .
color, stance, wheels perfect love the look!
thanks for the video
sweet car would love haveing one
people suffering through cancer is the worst do what you can for them
You are right. Never get involved selling someone elses car
Great car watched my father lose his battle with Cancer its hard.
Beautiful car. ❤❤❤
Props to Aberdeen! My mom and grandma both went to Wetherwax HS. Sorry to hear about Bill 😢
Dang. I never got to go to the original Weatherwax… I watched it burn four blocks from my house when I was a kid. I still live only about 15 blocks from where it stood. Thank you.
@DeadDodgeGarage I didn't know it burned down! Yikes! I suspect you are too young to have met Curt Cobain? My mom was much too old to have met him. I might have run into him (but did not meet him) when I lived in Oly and he lived there too.
Im a huge wagon fan so im really loving that wagon! Also im sorry for your loss.
Thank you. The wagon is my wife’s car. I have a couple videos up on that one, and will be doing another installment soon as it really needs some love. It’s pretty popular. Haha.
Went through cancer myself a few years ago. 12 months of surgery and treatment was hell. Wouldnt recommend it. Bought myself a 71 Satellite Sebring as a therapy car. Rare sight in Australia. Sorry to hear about Bills passing. Hopefully the car ends up in caring hands.
I hope so too. Glad you are still here with us. I love those ‘71-2s - sounds like a better time to me.
I fell for the "Just adjust the slop out of the box" thing once too. Had the same effect.
Condolences to Bill and his family, cool car
It reminds me of the Coronet 440 my parents had when I was a child. Same color, body style and 440 trim level. Our car had the 273 V8, automatic transmission, but no factory air.
OMG THEY LOOK AWESOME SIDE BY SIDE.
Having a conversation with yourself is fine , disagreeing with yourself not so much , Anyhoo lovely Coronet , sad Bill passed before he got it where he wanted it
So that's the 67 you talked about you wanted. Well maybe it will still come to pass. It's nice
That is a very nice car, thanks for sharing with us, Great Content!
Well, I'm only 10 months behind seeing this. I think it's a nice looking Coronet! I hope Bill enjoyed it.
Great video
that car looks really nice
That's a gorgeous ride🇺🇸👌
Yeah, you should buy it!
LOVE this car!
Sad story, cool car. I talk to myself often, usually while working. Clearing a drain, trouble shooting a circuit, Re stringing a guitar, wiring a model railroad etc. What I never do is talk to myself by the river, that's just bat shit crazy lol.
Great epitath, and that full 360 degree horn ring is akin to the story of Bill still being a'round' even if he is a bit muted currently. Jamie you have to get the horn blaring for Bill!
Thanks for directing me to Tom to get my transmission dipstick. I wonder where you plan to get the power brake booster rebuilt? The one in my 65 Monaco is also bad. I really like the Coronet. Its really a nice car. Regards from Ody Slim
I know there is a company that we use at Rocket. I don’t know who that is by name. I should ask Tom. Haha. You bet!
Nice car!!! I bet Bill is stoked you are sorting it. Most people I know are idiots, but i’m still rather fond of them! 😊
Yeah I got the gist on that model designation. It's still a Mopar . R.I.P. William . Yo silly ? He liked you .
He did. I think. Lol.
MY GALPAL MAINTAINS,LOVES,MAKES IT LIVE 1960S FOUR DOOR MOPAR SHE WOULD WET HER PANTS IF I CAME HOME WITH HER.SHE WORKS AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE .LOVE YOUR CHANNEL,BRAE🎉❤
It really is a beautiful car.
That thing is sweeet! ;)
A neighbor had a 4 door , gold with a 273. It was in decent shape but the neighbor was on drugs and ran it out of oil and made it knock loud. Rest in peace to Bill.
I lost my dad to renal cancer and inherited the one new car he ever bought, a 66 Coronet 500 SE crew cab with a 273. I rebuilt it with stock, flat top Egge pistons and a mild Isky cam. The pistons suck because they are low in the deck. Runs great but compression sucks. I'm contemplating blowing it apart again and installing high compression pistons. I still run a stock 2bbl but I have a factory 273 4bbl intake on standby as soon as I find a decent AFB with the small throttle plates. Pertronix replaced points and that helped compensate for a worn distributor shaft bushing. I'd be happy with 250 hp vs the 200 it has.
I am planning a ridiculous 273 build, and have not found the numbers people get from them terribly inspiring. My hope is to get all kinds of RPMs out of a small block. I’m not too concerned with the power rating - more the fun and the exercise.
@@DeadDodgeGarage Please post what you do. Eventually I'm redoing my dad's 273 a 2nd time to make some HP.
I had a '67 Formula S fastback with a 273/235 - 727 out of a Duster with 3.23's , factory dual points, a bear to keep in tune(solid lifter motor) but it would rev to 6000 all day and was scared of nobody's 340. Couldn't guarantee its accuracy, but I saw the needle solidly on 120 the only foolish time i ran it on top end in my ownership of the car ( I raced a New Yorker with a 440 and all he saw was tail lights).
@@ervinthompson6598 They are fun little V8s. In a boat like my dad's crew cab Coronet, it takes a while to get moving but it rev to the moon and suck gas through the 2bbl as though it were a big block.
No Doubt , cancer sucks... Great Video ( Bill thinks I'm Idiot ) 😂
I owned the identical car when I was in High School. (1990)
I hope you never have to have that experience we're glad to see you keeping them all part legends alive and I know my brother 1st car was a 67 Orange Dodge Stephen so that's exactly why I started watching your channel Which in today's world would probably get him called a racist because when he bought it someone had painted a competitor flag on the top of it which one of the cool reasons he bought it but I remember him having it when I was I think 4 or 7 years old because he gave me a set of keys to it and 20 years later when I finished my 67 tomorrow as far as I could before he died unexpectedly I gave him a set of keys to it and I told him I said it's as much yours as it is mine because I wouldn't have it without you because you're the guy that helped me build it so I know what family and cars can mean so that's what I said about you possibly selling it back to his daughter even if his widow won't Let you or does Eventually she'll want and I'm sure even if they don't want it right now they will forget selling it if I sell it to anyone but you because they won't be able to get it back trust me I know
For those reading the comments that don't know, the trim levels of 330, 440 and 500 had nothing to do with the engine size. The higher the trim level, the more chrome and nicer the interior. You could order a 330 with a hemi and like wise, get a 440 or 500 with a slant six. The 330 was more likely to have a bench with no console while the 500 would be more likely to have buckets with console. Personally I have a 67 Coronet 500.
I can only explain that in so many videos 😁
RIP Bill
Doin' the right thing.
THE CAR!!! The nice car!!! I name the car Alexander the………pretty good.
I like it, but the car was already named Tilda. I don’t have the backstory on that.
Eddie, what I learned from you these cars are family cars. Then the idea came in let's put a big motor In her and nice decals' genius idea. Seems like the Viper was the first made for what it is. Not that open wheel car
I think this comment got lost in the ether.
Sweet car! Hey, what do u attribute that shaking on the engine? My 318 started to do that. Im lookin at richness of fuel, vaccium leaks or motor mounts? Any idea?
There are a lot of factors that can contribute to that. If your engine is worn you might want to start with a compression check. Look for even cylinder temperature in the exhaust manifolds. Vacuum leaks… worn ignition components leading to misfires. Lots of possibilities.
In this case, it’s an aggressive cam with a choppy idle. I wouldn’t expect it to pass the glass of water test.
@@DeadDodgeGarage i will look into those. Thabk you always for taking the time to answer. Love this channel!
No Doubt the Chop Chop is real with this one ! Now imagine long tube headers and short mufflers exiting in front of tires 😂 Obviously not Bills idea of fun !
@@mikesr3407 the brand new headers for the car were in his garage... but I'm sure he would've kept full length pipes in it. I like how mellow it is too. Just not that kind of car. But it would be fun. Haha.
I heard you tell us on your video that you don’t sell cars or parts and I totally understand but maybe you can send me the right direction where I can find the outside door lock rods the go between the lock and the latch that I’m missing on my 64 Dodge 440. Geebop in Texas.
Personally I’d call Wildcat Auto Wrecking in Oregon. They ship parts everywhere. Stuff isn’t cheap, but they have a lot of inventory. I don’t have any to sell you so that isn’t really covered by that statement. Haha.
@14:41, Jamie ...is this your home? Dang you are a lucky fella if it is... if not then some one is.
Yep… this is my place. I sure am lucky.
I think Bill meant well .
How could it be too nice! Your demon is nicer snd you own that! So why not this beauty?
My demon cost more and has that cool original flavor to it (and looks pretty good on camera) but it’s an original paint survivor car already covered in dings, scratches, and car wash wear. So not much I have to worry about as far as little dings and scratches from daily use. This shiny brand new paint, on the other hand… if I can find room in the budget for it, I will!
Nice car but just needs some TLC . 👍🏻💯🇦🇺⛽️
Awesome engine but it needs headers 👌
He had already bought them 😃
That car is pretty cool, sorry Bill didn’t have more time to enjoy it. Yep cancer sucks, the surgeries, the multiple radiation treatments, the multiple chemo treatments, the shit you put your family through and the time it takes to get your life back together. Yeah it sucks
Have the valve seats been hardened for no lead gas .?????
Not usually a problem on Mopars in my experience. I’m not sure what year heads it has. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about that.
I just buy 89 minimum and bottle of Lucas 👍 plus I dont race my car just enjoy...
Can’t believe it runs at all with that street demon carburetor.
Same… I strongly dislike those things.
@@DeadDodgeGarage the coronet came with one in it. It’s in its place now.. high on the parts shelf!!
"There's a guy back there by the river having a conversation by himself...how interesting." says the guy driving by talking to himself...
I’m not talking to myself, I’m talking to you! 😅
No, that is a really nice car.
I WOULD like to buy this car so please tell me how to go about it.
It was sold long ago unfortunately.
Nice Coronet! Could you buy it?
I wasn’t able to make a sale in time to cover it so I ended up passing.
🎉 But Dale I hope you get a chance to buy it maybe if you even sell it back to his daughter if she wants it for what you paid for it this is wrong if you don't get it where it's sold completely outside the family to some crazy dealer or something like that or no one can recover it that would enjoy it and know where it came from
My thinking. I’d hope they would buy it back eventually. Also, I’m not Dale, I’m Jamie 🙂 Dale is the original owner of my Demon who owned it for 51 years. We called him Demon Dale, and the car was Dale’s Demon. It still is, even though it’s mine now. Jamie’s Demon just doesn’t have the same ring
You think it's hard to make the trim level match the engine size? Imagine having a Valiant 770. Where am I going to find an engine that big? 😁
We don’t have that problem here in the states 😅 but I have faith that you can figure that one out!
The factory adjustment procedure on the steering gear box shouldn't be followed. Overtigten the screw on the nut on the top a bit to get the output shaft gear tight into the worm gear. Then tighten the giant nut on the end of the steering box to take the play out. Then loosen the screw and locknut on the top.
Interesting. Will have to try that some time.
Is there a better sound in the world than the sound of a Mopar gear reduction starter when an old Mopar is struggling to start? I don’t think there is. An old Ford truck might be second.
Just gonna mention that heavy consistent cannabidiol treatments help some people defeat certain cancers.
I know a guy who is living proof of that. His doctors just about couldn’t believe it.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I am also living proof. Millions of doctors prefer to not believe it, unfortunately, because OTC tinctures that anyone can buy anytime don't keep doctors wealthy.
so what happen to the car now?
It went to a local classic lot and was sold after a couple months.
@@DeadDodgeGarage man would have been great if you got it.
Cool car to bad about how you got it
Well, I haven’t gotten it yet. I’m currently just babysitting. But that could change.
I believe your employer could broker the deal. I was hoping it had a six cylinder or a 383 . 318 not so much sorry.🎉😂❤
Wait, so you’d rather a slant six than a performance built 318 with a dyno verified 380 horsepower? Interesting
@@DeadDodgeGarage prolly just for the shock factor when you open the hood to show your friends ! Like eightees comaro with a 4 cyl !
@ Dead Dodge Garage. Do you like the sound of the Mopar starters?
@@lovetocrank oh, you already know I love the sound of Mopar starters, my friend. I was disappointed by the mini starter sound in this car.
@Dead Dodge Garage I certainly understand that! The gear reduction starters have the best sound by far!
I really dig these old Mopars NO interest in the modern . Nope
Man thought something about you, his family called you. Just saying . I always liked that body style
Actually it was another friend of mine that happened to be helping them clean out the house who called, about the extra parts initially. We just weren’t that close, and the family didn’t know me from anyone else. And that’s ok. I love those Coronets. There’s just something about the lines. Relatively straight and simple design, the angle of the C pillar, the subtle haunch above the rear wheel. The Charger quarter impressions that moved to the ‘67 car are a neat touch too.
ALL THE MONEY WE GIVE CANCER .THERE IS A CURE . B.S.
Ok dude.

I am getting sucked in , LoL
Clearly 😅
Great coronet
Cancer sucks!
Sorry to hear about the passing of your friend bill. Unfortunately cancer treatment including chemotherapy is 90 percent failure. The only reason chemotherapy is pushed is because the doctors bank account gets bigger. Another little trivial fact, the third largest cause of death in the United States Dr malpractice. Are medical people should be held accountable but we know that will never happen
If that claim held any water whatsoever, you’d think the CDC might have heard about it. I’m not saying that everything in the medical world is all roses and puppy dog kisses, but I am saying that we should try to focus on actual problems that can be proven to exist with evidence.
Nice if somewhat sad story. But you at least you still have me to call you an idiot.
