    Well, I'm a luthier and have a few clients who own old, historic guitars that I get to hear frequently. One of those persons has a 1944 Conde. I've grown to love that sound. Your guitar is wonderful, with all the attributes that one could expect from a Conde Hermanos. Congratulations on getting your dream guitar; it really is a dream and you play it very well!

      Really appreciate you saying that! Thanks a lot for watching. Glad you enjoyed the sound and my playing. It is truly a magical instrument, there's something special about these older Conde guitars. Great to hear from a luthier too... I know many players but not too many luthiers. If you ever need someone to record some videos with your instruments, give me a shout!! 😁

      @@FrancisGrant1 Brazilian Rosewood... Hopefully, they stopped to p*ss off musicians at borders and airports: this wood is CITES protected, until 2019, you needed a CITES certificate to transport them, but they concluded that since musical instruments were only 1% of the dalbergia nigra international transport and moreover, musicians from a national philharmonic were detained because of some bassoon and marimba in Brazilian Rosewood, the UN was pressured to stop bothering musicians.
      It's one of the best tonewoods... Well, if you break your guitar, I'd be happy to recycle the flat parts as fretboards for my electric guitars

  • @Haroun-El-Poussah
    @Haroun-El-Poussah หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well, I suppose you must feel just like when I finally could secure my 1st Vigier Passion III-90/10 after 18 years looking for one (only 46 built and it's the best electric guitar I ever touched, and I gave a try to stuff that sell at the price of a car, an apartment and even a house, as well as I was allowed to give a try to gear belonging to very very famous persons) and the hail Mary moment I had was when I was able to secure a 2nd one two years later and that was the one I tried in 1991, and without a single scratch on the varnish, it was just like she had waited for me for 20 years!).
    I'm really happy for you, especially since I had the opportunity to, although not into acoustics, give a try to a Condé Hermanos belonging to someone very famous when I intended the guitar course (an intensive week) that used to happen with the Cannes Guitar Festival, I think it was in 1992... These are true marvels that sound really magic, they have serious "mojo" and... Better not put one like this in the hands of a beginner: he/she will end disgusted of his own guitar and considering the usual price tags on this brand, you can easily face 2 decades waiting to get yours

    After fingerpicking 30 years on $1000 guitars....last month I found a pawnshop $100 "japanese" Classical Alverez.....except it was a $6000 1973 Juan Alverez Blanca Cedartop. I couldnt believe what I was looking at, for $100!!!!!!! I could not have picked a better guitar for fingerpicking, I had never seen a real flamenco guitar in Idaho before, the pawn shop owner had no idea what he had.

    • @FrancisGrant1
      @FrancisGrant1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ¡Muchas gracias! Sí, adoro la estética con las clavijas de madera. Tanto el Juan Montes como el Marlon Navarro son instrumentos fantásticos. Sin embargo, las guitarras que tuve de estos dos luthiers eran de nivel de estudiante, mientras que esta Conde Hermanos es una guitarra de concierto. Por lo tanto, realmente no se puede comparar. El Conde es de un nivel superior y cuesta quizás tres veces más. Juan Montes y Francisco Navarro producen guitarras de grado de concierto, pero no las he probado, solo he probado sus guitarras de grado de estudiante. De todos modos, por su precio, creo que no encontrarás mejores guitarras que Juan Montes o Marlon Navarro.

    It sounds very nice with many capabilities. What scale is it? There are so many Conde guitars out there it is difficult to know what's what. Gravina St. you can't go wrong, with a reputable dealer for sure. I always wondered if they were comfortable to play or only for the pros? On the steel string side Gibson has the "workhorse" reputation, but seem not easy to play in general. High five!

    Francis, what would be your suggestion for an all solid wood Blanca and negra around 1800 USD price range ? For the price range, there are too many options, so it gets overwhelming. At the moment I just learn on a Yamaha classical CX40. If I had to choose between a Blanca or a negra I am assuming the negra depending on the tone woods would be a bit more versatile? Thanks Francis I love your posts very helpful.

    • @FrancisGrant1
      @FrancisGrant1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ted! Yes I get what you mean... at this price range there is so much choice, it becomes very hard to narrow it down to specific models. Everyone is different and everyone has different preferences... ultimately, if you're going to spend this much money on a guitar, you will want to get it in your hands to see how it feels to you and how it sounds to you. I find that negras have more versatility. As we spoke about before, if you would also like to play classical music then I recommend a negra. Blancas are great too but these days, most people tend to only use them when they want that punchy, snappy and loud tone - like if you want to play in the tablao or want to play a fast tangos or buleria piece.
      Instead of recommending specific guitars, I'll mention a couple of builders who I would certainly be at the top of my list for this price range. It will be up to you to check out the different models and explore what fits best for your personality / hands / ears. Camps do great guitars at this price range. So does Francisco Navarro. You may even want to consider a second hand vintage guitar from a master luthier like Conde Hermanos, you can sometimes get lucky around this price range. I recommend keeping an eye on Diego's store: reverb.com/uk/shop/diegos-gear-garage-106
      And vintage guitar world: www.vintage-guitar-world.com/product-category/flamenco-guitars/?orderby=price

    Thanks for this video Francis, what a dream guitar! I have a Felipe Conde FP14N - at the other end of the Conde range - which I also cannot put down!
    Could you tell me the nut width on your guitar please? On mine it is 53mm, strings 43mm so there is a full 5mm on each side between the string and the edge of the fretboard (I like this setup). Yours looks like the strings are closer to the edge, is the nut narrower or the string spacing wider?
    On my guitar the action at the nut is a little high, I am thinking of lowering it.
    Thanks again, Bill

    • @FrancisGrant1
      @FrancisGrant1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bill!! The FP14 is a beautiful guitar too, I have considered buying that in the past! That's interesting yours is 53 mm, I didn't know that... and that feels OK? No additional strain on the hand? Unusually, this Conde Hermanos is 51 mm nut width. This actually concerned me in the beginning as I have big hands and like larger but widths. But since trying the 51 mm, I actually prefer it. Like you said, the strings are close to the edge so you have to spend a little bit more care when playing otherwise you can accidentally push the string over the edge of the fretboard. But once you get used to this, it feels no different to a 52 mm nut width.
      Thanks for watching the video and commenting 🙏 great to get in touch! 😁

    • @wjchivers
      @wjchivers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrancisGrant1 Hi Francis, I think you get used to any guitar you play often, my classical guitar is 51mm. I do like the extra string spacing for flamenco, but this is the only flamenco guitar I have owned so maybe I would prefer 51. It is hard to find flamenco guitars in Australia! Your strings are closer to the edge so maybe the string spacing is similar to mine.
      By-the-way you and I have a few things in common, I also have a PhD in biological sciences (mine in Ecology), a publication in a Nature journal (Nat Comms), a black belt (Tae Kwon Do) and we both moved from classical guitar players to mostly flamenco!

      Depends obviously playing/collecting it in person is better, still in 1962 way before the internet existed and it became the most popular guitar of its time (dude to Segovia who had a similar one) my father ordered himself a classical guitar at the Jose Ramirez factury which was send to the Netherlands by mail. The one he received was build by Contreras and by far the best Ramirez he ever encountered. It might be quite similar to Manolo Sanlucar's famous classical Ramirez guitar, both were called magical by whoever had the luck to play it.
