Your playing has the charm that's needed for this piece I think. Debussy's experiments are often so advanced and varied that there can be a danger sometimes of the music sounding esoteric. This piece is quite the opposite of that and you've managed to capture the Mediterranean warmth and spontaneity superbly.
Thank you, Kat! I've been painting the portrait today of a wonderful woman from New Zealand called Catherine Riley-Bryan, she founded the Bamboo School (Children's refuge) in Thailand. bambooschoolthailand.com/
I just started attempting to tackle this one, and it’s quickly becoming my favorite... I’ve been referencing this recording for phrasing and expression (at a significantly slower speed so far, ha)... anyways thanks for this video, Paul!
Can someone please explain why so many pianists (e.g. Zimerman, Michelangeli, Lang Lang, Hamelin, Freire, Pollini etc.) in the third bar from the end ("Lumineux") play the highest notes F# and G# (together) as opposed to A# and B - the way it's written in all the editions I've seen?
I finally reached this video! I heard dozens of this piece on youtube. Only you played the note in bar 90 (the third to last) as I think. The last two notes in this bar, which left hand cross over to played, it shows A# and B on my music sheet. However, most of the record I heard, they play F# and G#. I checked all of the version on IMSLP, they all wrote A# and B. I can't find any information or discuss about this online. I doubted myself maybe I counted the note wrong or sth. This problem bothered me a lot. If someone can explain to me, I will be very thankful.
I love how you didn't rush the build up at 0:38. I find a lot of recordings blaze through that part.
Energetic, beautiful ... Les collines d'Anacapri
And listening again, weirdly second at the next-to-finish, fun passages, beautiful harmonies and shifts. ❤

I wish I was one of those elephants that I love but only a little more than Paul Barton. What a wonder, generous and talented person.
Gorgeous!
Awesome thank you
I wish I could play a grand someday :D
Great moment of beatitude, thanks Monsieur Barton, from Lausanne (Suisse)

How is it going? Did it prove easier or more difficult than you imagined?
Godfried S Still a lot slower than this video, but I’ve got it to where I can play it all the way through. Bit of a long term project!
