the best looking and best sounding rally car ever,A true icon of the sport ,the drivers were awesome,Walter is my favorite .they will go down in history
Could you imagine if they were able to finish developing this monster? I’m sure it would have dominated the WRC. And would have sparked an arms race with the other manufacturers too along with it.
For those unaware, the Argentina rally has a shitton of places that are narrow and lots of hairpins. At this point in time, because of the center differential (new thing for the Group B 4WD cars to control the torque balance between front and rear drive wheels) they couldn't use the handbrake as anything but to hold all four tyres so the handbrake turn as we know it today couldn't be used. In a car that is almost 2 meters wide (1.86). With no handbrake turns, only clutch kicks and pendulum turns. To get around some hairpins they would've had to swing out opposite the oncoming corner and brake then turn back around into the corner while clutch kicking to build revs higher and make rear tyres spin to get the back around. And they did stuff like this like it was nothing :|
I'm humbled to have lived through this racing era, I have watched the best of the best in the world and nothing can replace Group B in the Safari Rally... Nothing. If they want real competition I suggest they reinstall the true Safari Rally. Thank you for the video.
In finland when mikkola drove the s1 he said after ouninpohja stage. that "it feels like you were watching the driving outside off the car, i have heard that fighter pilot's have same feeling's". 😂😂😂 and after the stage his co-drive said "if somebody drives that stage faster i give my driving suit for him, and it was the only time ever when he spoke about mikkola driving.
27 sec wow!!! The Audio was a beast of a car but the Delta S4 was just as equally Insane. That to one side this was the greatest days of rallying! Brilliant video loved it keep the. Coming.
It is said that engineers and mechanics would often find severed fingers and appendages within the car while working on them after their races. A study done after Group B was shut down claimed that the cars were so nimble and fast, that no human could possibly remain in control of the cars as their reaction times were too slow for how fast the cars could go. These cars are impressive and powerful. So powerful in fact, that they were nearing a point where they were humanly impossible to drive safely. And this was over 30 years ago.
Audi won only 1 time the world Championchip, but Audi was winning a lot of Rallyes!! Audi Quatro S1 and Walther Roehrl, the best of the best! Walthers record, he won with the Audi S1 at the San Remo Ralley 39 of 45 Special Stages!
Wow i loved that car always but i didn't know all those details about it . Also i knew that S1 had around 680 bhp , now i see 591 here , not insanely far though ...anyway thanks for this video and information !
And the winner was ... another more agile car, with a smarter mechanical layout. Proof of all this: Constructors and Drivers Rally World Championship in 1985 and 1986. With exhibition in the Monte Carlo Rally of 1985, tracing 8 minutes of penalty.
really nice work, I'd say. Who loves such an icon for sure will appreciate it a lot, like me (if I can give you just a lil'suggestion, maybe I'd have placed the comment in the lower part, instead of the higher: I think it could be more "istinctively" noticed (and followed) Anyway... great vid, especially for someone like me: I agree with you above all on two points: the unforgettable and unmistakable sound of the five-cylinder, and the impressive acceleration at the exit of the corners. In addition to this, another of its strengths is the "ease" to control in skidding (although in the comment you report an "incurable understeer", Id not think to see it. Maybe the matter could be drivers skill. F. ex., another Group B car tha for real has an incurable understeer, is the Renault Clio 16v. In a lot of vids here on YT you can see it... that car has FOR REAL the bad habit to always go straight, pilots have a hard time trying to skid with the rear
Stig Blomqvist learned Walter how to drive with leftbraking to set up the car in a curve. Stig had driven front wheel driven cars all his life, Walther had not. Since a 4wd behavs simular to a front driven car in corners you can set up with left breaking. Just a little fact.
when the car was driving in the limiter, the understeer could suddenly turn into oversteer, and it was very difficult to get the quattro under control + due to the placement of the engine, the car had a bad weight distribution
I just love 5 cylinders cars, I bet this one could reach 200 mph if it the gears helped to do so, but in rallies I guess that it was not easy to get more then 140 mph, so that's ok, anyway that's a lovely german beast
it's the first time that I try to make a video like that... I hope that you like this type of project!
Well explained and great quality!
Great!
Great walk down memory lane, i was on top of the hill to the left when the RS200 crashed. these group B cars were amazing
Awesome work ! Well explain, good sample !
Good work there! Keep going!
I even got that 5cyl Sound for my alarm... there is nothing better to hear when you get out of bed
Best sounding car of all time by a country mile . They don’t make them like that any more, Audi Quattro s1 e2 😍
The only car ever to do wheelies in a rally the E2 Quattro it took my attention then and still makes
me smile almost 40 years later
same over here bro !!! i know the feeling !!!!
the best looking and best sounding rally car ever,A true icon of the sport ,the drivers were awesome,Walter is my favorite .they will go down in history
I always consider it a privilege to have lived through this era of rallying. Thanks for reminding me.
I love to see thousands of people with the same passion as me and still loving the Group B nice video man!
in 90 min I will upload a video on 205 t16 ;)
The night time footage at the end is amazing. Thank you for posting.

Here is the full video th-cam.com/video/2uGuR3dKZxI/w-d-xo.html
Try and argue all you want but even since the start this was ALWAYS the best looker, sounder and performer, without this car no 4wd group B
Quality video. Well done!
What a brilliant, well explained vid, from start to finish, well done, keep me coming👍....

So so so spectacular.Sadly those days are long gone and never coming back😭😭😭

I literally cannot get the Audi quattros sound out of my head now!😃
Great video!!!!
Awesome video on this iconic monster of the Group B era
27 sec wow!!!
The Audio was a beast of a car but the Delta S4 was just as equally
Insane. That to one side this was the greatest days of rallying! Brilliant video loved it keep the. Coming.
Legends never die!
Audi is the king of Rally Cars
Vedere di persona..il passaggio queste potenti auto..nel 1986.. dev'essere stato come vedere gli Ufo.
Fantastico!!
Brilliant video. I always wanted to know what exactly happened with the Audi in this time. Thank you for the informations.
Stupendous video.. informative and brilliant. Big thank you from Group B fan
The sounds are beautiful.

j'ai toujours kiffé les caisses de rallye, mais cette époque c'était la meilleure !
I have such a love affair with these group b cars. Especially the Audi. What a time it must have been seeing these cars race.
THE BEAST!!! THE BEST!!!!.
this was borderline to a drama-romantic story, loved it, Imma drive this car in forza now :D
good work bro Audi was a fearsome car
Imagine owning such a beast of a car. Forget the 1000hp JDM cars I think I would be more afraid of driving this thing
Thank you!
amazing car its like nothing else
Audi Quattro s1 are the most brutal rally cars ever
Thanks
Audi won only 1 time the world Championchip, but Audi was winning a lot of Rallyes!!
Audi Quatro S1 and Walther Roehrl, the best of the best! Walthers record, he won with the Audi S1 at the San Remo Ralley 39

4:16 i knew somthing was wrong with the car it doesn’t normally sound that raspy
... very well done video .. ! Thank you very much for this :)
That car is sick!!!
"walter avoids a fan in the road" bro he didnt even try to miss him hahahaha
Very good. Thank you
Sad that Audi's engineers weren't allowed to build a mid-engined fully bred rally car. The Quattro was basically a Group 4 car in Group B.
However it did not won many races but it won many people's Hearts no doubt about that!
Such a good video!
Wow i loved that car always but i didn't know all those details about it . Also i knew that S1 had around 680 bhp , now i see 591 here , not insanely far though ...anyway thanks for this video and information !
Historic cars 🤩😍👌
Great video ty for your time
And the winner was ...
another more agile car, with a smarter mechanical layout.
Proof of all this: Constructors and Drivers Rally World Championship in 1985 and 1986. With exhibition in the Monte Carlo Rally of 1985, tracing 8 minutes of penalty.
And yet most people don't know what you are talking about, because the car that won the hearts of the fans was the Audi.
Gefällt mir sehr gut.
The legend car! Fabulosus!

only Walter Röhrl is able to drive this car.
@barfuss2007: This is not a car, it is a beast of driving machine.
Stig was good also, so was Michele.
Stig Blomqvist learned Walter how to drive with leftbraking to set up the car in a curve.
Stig had driven front wheel driven cars all his life, Walther had not. Since a 4wd behavs simular

Amazing! More videos of gr.B cars, please!
Beautiful Beast!!!
@TheRUB picture at 8:36 from Monte Carlo? Where I could find it?
Rallymania.forumfree.it
when the car was driving in the limiter, the understeer could suddenly turn into oversteer, and it was very difficult to get the quattro under control + due to the placement of the engine, the car had a bad weight distribution
shame the ol girl won only one rally event, still put on great shows!
Brilliant
Do you have a source for that on-board footage from 9:26-on?
I just love 5 cylinders cars, I bet this one could reach 200 mph if it the gears helped to do so, but in rallies I guess that it was not easy to get more then 140 mph, so that's ok, anyway that's a lovely german beast
R. I. P. Hannu Mikkola
Really nice video!
Great video!!!....🤙😎🤘
Can you do more videos like this? I thought that this car only won the Pikes Peak. I didn't knew it won a rallye
with Walter Röhrl
Do you have any clip showing the audi pdk onboard footage?
Got this Car in Forza today
Way easier to drive than dirt 2.0 😂
However they're both fun
Yeah the S1 E2 was the scariest of them all
Make more videos like this!
gracias|
Nice post..!! How about you put the original audible commentry and sound on your your video..??
I think that the pure engine sound Is not a bad idea
Quattro 😀👍💪
F1 drivers !....Walter Rohrl ate them for breakfast ! .
Americans "over 240Mph on an oval" Europeans: OK but what about going over 250Kmph on a dirt road?... yeesh OK you win
Que guapo
The first place
doesnt mention michele mouton.. wtf
And why would she be in it? She never drove the thing, barring like 2 DNF's on the British circuit.
oh she never drove that model ?
@@lowerless Not really. Every other iteration of the quattro except that one. She didn't like the E2 apparently, and switched to the T16 instead.
Didn't Michele drive on in the Isle of man ?
Audi wanted to make a new one with 1000 HP and Röhrl tested it once
Rumour has it that the last works cars were doing 800 brake, the major issue was keeping them cool.
Where is part 1?
This car was like a panzer.
Anyone here from trhamza?
7:33
all of that 3 dead people, were children...
👍🎅👍
Real cars have 5 cylinders 👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍🏁
Why wont audi come back to rallying.
#borninthewronggeneration
