    This new version of the Rafale is a convenient size to put on the back seat of the car compared to the larger 80mm EDF version. It goes together in minutes. Just just UHU POR to glue on the vertical stabiliser, canards and fuel probe. Slide on the missiles, bombs and fuel tanks. Click on the mains landing gear and attach the nose gear. Then all you need to do is install your receiver and connect it up to the clearly labelled leads for the individual control surfaces and Reflex v2 gyro.
    On this flight I removed its fixed landing gear and flew it with gyro on. You can also see that I cut some finger holes to assist with hand launching after 2 failed attempts. The fuselage is wide and flat underneath and impossible to get a good hand grip so I had to make this modification. Jason had tried a 2 handed launch but it is impossible to keep the nose up while pushing it hard from behind.
    Sadly we have had a few rude comments that have had to be removed and the associated accounts blocked. Unless you try to hand launch this model yourself you wouldn't know what you are talking about.
    1. Remove the fixed landing gear
    2. Remove the bombs and missiles
    3. Cut finger holes to assist hand launching
    Flown on a 4S2700 pack and it was awesome. Easily the best small jet I have flown in a very long time !
    Filmed by Jason for the 'Essential RC' TH-cam channel using the Panasonic AG-UX180 4K camcorder at our local model flying club.

    Well done guys for doing the finger grip slots like I did. Great video!
    She certainly does float and has an excellent speed envelope. Ive had so much interest from the public when I fly mine, more than any plane ever. They probably think its a typhoon!
    Like any handlaunch edf she needs up trim for launch.

    I've had 4 flights on mine now. 2 with wheels, 2 hand launched. I will cut holes for extra grip but the slow speed qualities are such that 2 launches where I barely 'put' it in the air were easily handled. Reflex in stabilized mode will have the model climbing quite steeply away.

    Thrust vectoring would be the cherry on top

  • @denismoran670
    @denismoran670 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if this is relevant, but when I was setting up my Durafly Vampire, Jon, of Woolly Sheep Reviews, did a brilliant review/mods video of the aircraft. One thing he demonstrated was that the 'as per' setup wasn't allowing enough air throught the intakes, and he solved this ( as did I !) by cutting air intakes above and behind the cockpit, then demonstrated the extra thrust gained.
    Perhaps cutting the handholds in your aircraft added to the intake volumne? Just a thought, cheers, Den, Abertawe.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      The holes would help but I don't think they are necessary for good power. I flew this without the mod with fixed landing gear and bombs etc and it still flew well.

  • @tructran8783
    @tructran8783 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice... So Did you launch with safe "Stabilizer" on ? Full power? And some up elevators ? And gyro on all the flight?

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Safe?! This isn't a E-flite model. Fairly sure I launched with gyro off and switched it to optimised mode after first circuit. Optimised mode on the Reflex v2 gyro just tries to minimise affects of wind turbulence. I think Stabilised mode on Reflex v2 gyro is like E-flite Safe in that it auto-levels. Doubt I will ever use that. More for beginners.

  • @M4rkmcc21
    @M4rkmcc21 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Has it got enough thrust to hold its own weight and lipo? It was between this and the same priced xfly su27 as my back seat park jet. The xfly just looked more interesting and much easier to hand launch. I think it also looks faster than this Rafale.

    Any luck increasing the elevon throws for roll? If I can't do that through reflex I will replace it with a SAFE mode/AS3X Spektrum receiver. Definitely needs more throw for roll.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Reflex doesn't limit it. Longer servo arms if you really need more throw.

    • @ingog4972

    the one thing i would say about assembling the model is that the fit of the canards to the fuz is really poor, they are very loose in the cutouts that they fit in, there was around 2 to 3mm of vertical slop in them, and if your not careful when gluing them in you could easily get them not parallel with each other, which would make flying "fun", can't really understand why FMS made it like that as the fin is a very tight fit, so they can do it correct if they want, also the cutout in the canopy where the latch goes in had no bottom in it so you could just remove the canopy by lifting it off without having to use the latch, needless to say i glued a small bit of foam in or it would have just fallen off in the air

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      My canards fitted OK. If my canards came off I'd probably use some cocktail sticks or carbon rod. I had more of a problem with the vertical stab but medium cyano and kicker fixed that.
