It's well known that Joan discovered she was not on NBC's list to replace Carson - so who could blame her for striking out on her own. But Carson was likely pissed because he had given her a platform and now she was going out and competing with him. He was also unhappy that Joan only told him minutes before the public announcement.
But she didn't do it with ill intentions, the truth in this life is that when you get a third person involve things that are meant to be kept as a secret can get out. And also friends hurt you sometimes, hell I have been hurt too by some close friends but I don't just shut them out, I tried to listen to their side also before making any big decisions, so I do understand why he got mad but I don't think that was the beast way to deal with it
I am not saying what she did was wrong but I don't like it when people say business is business or you don't get ahead by being nice. Another thing you always here on reality shows is I'm not here to make friends. I don't buy into the idea that you can only get ahead by looking after yourself and not caring about others. Even if it were true, I'd rather be nice to people even if it meant I wasn't on top.
She should have called Carson the moment Fox approached her! He didn't lie, because she only called right before the annoucement. It would have been the right thing for her to do, because he made her.
Isn't it funny how Joan defends keeping all of this a secret from Johnny for her own benefit yet blames him for resenting it? They were personal friends for years yet she went months planning this behind his back.
You tell the guy you're getting your own show, or at least in negotiations. You talk to him in private about it. Johnny Carson wasn't going to go out there and release it to the media that Joan Rivers was going after her own show on Fox, there was no danger in telling him.
Joan could have really become famous, if she would have done the american version of Absolutely Fabulous....even when f....ing america censors didn't allow it. They suck.
She says "she doesn't gve a sht about Johnny Carson" but she stll brings him up even they don't ask her about him. She talks about Johnny like he's alive. Whatever Johnny did Joan you wll never be as great or legandary as he was!
The Johnny we saw and loved on TV was not the same Johnny in real life. Very much like Bob Barker.

I like what she said at the end. You don't get somewhere by being a nice guy, you do it by having drive.

Johnny probably felt completely betrayed, and she wanted her own show but was told she could not tell him. Impossible situation. What do you do?
I believe Johnny Carson was wrong about the whole thing.
"When $15M meant something" Hey lady, try living on my $700 a month.

@bashbrannigan I'm not...It's a story that MUST BE TOLD. Not to mention a teaching moment for any female in the industry.
But never let that change you. Never let the business around you change you, because that will destroy you.

Cant believe this video was uploaded 4 days before 9/11. Wish i could go back and warn them. Lest we forget...

Johnny was overrated
I love Joan, but she should have stayed with Carson... would have paid off very well in the end.
I'm tired of hearing Rivers tell the Carson story.
