I was biting my tongue after you said you wanted to do a scary game in the last one 🤣. Sorry to hear some people are being rude, you are doing great and experiencing a true classic unspoiled.
The best plot twist ever. In the original game, there was never any indication of the existence of the Flood. It wasn't in any trailer, wasn't on the box, and nothing leading up to this point ever hinted at space zombies. And then we're suddenly hit with one of the most horrific alien species ever.
There are a couple hints about the flood but they're extremely subtle. One of them is when Captain Keyes drops out of contact. First time players will think nothing of it and move on but it's the first clue that something's about to go really wrong.
One of the greatest plot twists in gaming history. Not just the story twist, but the game itself pulls the rug out from underneath you. Any tactic or playstyle that works well against the covenant is TERRIBLE against the flood. Headshots? Don't bother. Assassinations? Won't work. Evading projectiles? Not possible against UNSC weapons. Running and hiding in a corner? The little ones can always find you. Taking out the leader so everyone else panics? They don't care. Killing them one by one? There's just too many. You were probably too panicked to notice, but the big ones also do actually get back up after you kill them sometimes if you don't kill them hard enough the first time. (I'm serious). So you have to watch yourself, even in places you thought were secure. Truly a brilliant design choice to throw the player off balance in every sense of the word.
The big ones only get back up if you let the infection forms reinfect them. Keep the infection forms away from the dead big ones and they wont get back up.
I find that they get up again if you let one of the little ones get to them to take over. Edit: Though I think they can just do that anyway at times. Been a while since I've played.
I played Halo CE for the first time when I was 9 or 10. This level was nightmare fuel for me. I had to get my dad to finish it for me. The poor disfigured marines, the awful sounds they make, the green slime and blood all over the place. Absolutely terrifying.
My brother and I were co opping this level at 9 and 11 years old...we were creeped out but I said this to my older brother when we saw the slime and blood all over, "Dude Cory...." "yeah bro..." ".…..these are only weak enemies...where are all the Elites and Marines?"
I highly appreciate you playing this level with original graphics, and I think you started to see why people suggested them. While I still think you should mostly stick to original graphics, remastered is actually helpful for The Library because of how easy it is to get lost. Loved the gameplay, don't worry about the haters, and I loved seeing your reaction to the Flood, who are probably my favorite enemy in all of games!
At 17:02 One other big detail i loved from the cutscene of Jenkins helmet when he's infected the IFF status registry in his helmet system says WND/INCAP/KIA???/ref meaning the ID system can't register if the Marine was just wounded incapacitated or killed in action still to this day very very well done and i love how they drew inspiration from Aliens for it.
343 Guilty Spark is one of the best Twists in your usual shooter where it's about one faction vs another faction and then the devs threw the Flood half way through this mission. The food are basically Space Zombies.
Thanks for playing with original graphics for this level. The atmospheric storytelling is much better in the original settings than in the MCC updated version.
Creepy to think that this level is early on in the game AND YET... its the last level in the game that you fight alongside the marines. Shows how devastating the flood is
Yeah I would definitely go back to Remastered on the Library. That level is quite the maze so they added arrows in the remastered graphics to help guide players. Otherwise you'd very easily get lost.
17:55 I don't think I've seen a grenade thrown mid-reload before. Also, thank you for considering and agreeing to our suggestion. Edit: aight I get it, you mastered it when you were a fetus, well done, no need to tell me how _you_ did it.
This was actually an often used glitch in competitive Halo, you could reload while throwing a grenade and skip the reload animation. You could also use grenades to cancel the melee animation and throw two punches back to back.
Ah yes I remember my first encounter with The Flood. It was 2001 when I was staying at a friends house for the weekend doing the campaign co-op, close to midnight so much panic shooting and accidental team killing.
I think you're a good player, and very good for a first time player. Sadly in gaming community there's just so many elitists, but I hope that won't discourage you or sour your experience. Playing Halo for the first time should be a fond memory after all. Thank you Meg for listening to our graphics request, because truly that was the level I think we cared most about.
I used to get lost on this mission as a kid all the time lol and the flood was so anxiety inducing. I wasn’t big into horror games but this was the closest I got to playing one
In case you read this: please keep making these videos for as long as you want, I personally really enjoy watching other people play my favorite games for the first time, don't let anyone discourage you, mate!. 🇭🇳👋
Thank you for taking the suggestion on playing on the classic graphics on this particular level! There was a few things about this level even I didn't notice for years until someone pointed them out, like that there are no living elites in this mission at all which is interesting because elites are much more brave and honor bound than jackals and grunts which is why the stuck around and fought while the jackals and grunts ran. Also noticed on that one platform there was a marine and jackal side by side which suggests they were so terrified of the common enemy that they fought together in their last moments. I can't remember where exactly it was but somewhere in the forest at the beginning of the mission there is a faint sound of the flood. Can't wait to see the next episode which even the developers realize all these years later might have been a little on the long side
I'm still not sure why Keyes is wearing his Navy uniform in the Remaster (maybe they only had time to make one character model?). It's just more logical to see him wearing Marine fatigues in the original.
12:29 I love how from the very beginning of the series Master Chief is always very respectful of dead marines. Here he catches him and carefully places him down. This sort of respect goes all the way through to Halo Infinite which I hope you also play eventually!
You have met the Flood. The Flood is literally the most terrifying parasite in any sci fi universe. Loving the play through excited to see the next episodes because from here things get wild with the lore.
Watching this has been fun. I think a lot of the confusing directions are less you being directionally challenged and more the game lol. The first one is a little rough in that way, but later games make it much easier to understand where you're going......usually (looking at you Cortana). Buckle up for a marathon run, The Library is not a short mission. Running it LASO (Legendary All Skulls On) took my friend and I several hours
I knew it was only a matter of time before you got to 343 Guilty Spark. Use short controlled bursts for the smaller ones, use shotguns and pistols for the big ones.
The original textures convey the dark and creepy vibe of the flood levels. The new textures are so insanely blue and bright. It's just not nearly as scary. I do like some of the new character models and sound effects but I'll always play this game with the original graphics
Don't listen to the haters, you're doing great! I always get turned around when I play this level, even so many years later. And this is literally your first halo game, anyone berating you for gameplay needs to get out of their mom's basement and touch some grass. I'm sure they weren't great at the game when they started playing either.
Thank you so much for playing this on the original graphics! The update unfortunately lost the sense of forboding and creepiness. Everything was too bright, too clean. Everything about the environment lent itself to the story. The flickering lights, the way all the Covenant were facing in, the doors were forced outward, the missing bodies of elites, even those 2 dead jackals next to the marines. As you noticed on the elevator down the wall was just painted with blood, something the new graphics do not do justice to. Again, thank you for experiencing the reveal as Bungie intended! Best of luck in the next level
Please ignore the rude comments, you're doing great and this walkthrough is about watching your honest reaction to the game as you play it so of course it makes sense that you play on normal, the best of this experience is watching you enjoy the game and discover stuff gameplay and story wise.
Edit: you probably already know this by now. In the beginning, the skull settings are modifiers to add more to your score but they have different effects that may benefit or hinder your experience. Mostly for trying to get the par scores on levels and adding extra difficulty when legendary becomes too easy
If you slowly walk around the first part of the map you can see the flood watching you through swamp or on the hills standing there that’s why your radar shows enemy but there’s nothing there. But if you move fast enough you can see them just watching you or running away it always creeped me out 😅 @megmage
Everything I say that "criticizes" your gameplay, I'm just reflecting on my own experience. I remember being a newcomer to halo, and playing with my friends, and coming up with strategies and what not. I just find it amusing, 14 years plus, that someone is playing the game for the first time, and going through the same struggles that I experienced long ago. And out of all of them, learning how to drive the warthog is my favorite 😊
Playing this level with original graphics is a really good choice since new graphics seems to have made some of the parts of atmospheric story telling harder to see, such as the blue blood all over the walls.
It is an absolute joy seeing you go through this game. I know you have gotten into the others. Oh your reaction to one of the greatest plot twists in gaming was wonderful!!
Halo Combat Evolved looks really great today seeing who released the flood, have a great Thursday and Take Care of yourself Thursday and Thank You very much Marvelous Meg.👋🌝
Just know most of us are enjoying this adventure and your experience with the franchise 👍🔥🔥🔥 Can't wait for you to finish this so you can start Halo 2 as the story and lore expands so much more. 👀
The worst thing about this level for first timers was the sheer confusion and terror that resulted from first meeting the Flood and not having Cortana guide you. I remember getting turned around and lost like she was.
Don't waste ammo on little flood ones, let them touch you, they barely do any damage thanks to your shield. Shotgun is most important against big flood ones.
No les hagas caso, siempre hay gente de mierda creyendose superior al resto por cualquier cosa, hacés muy buen contenido seguí así, la historia de Halo es muy atrapante te va a gustar!! Saludos 😁🇦🇷
Theres always something so creepy about the older Halo games and Halo 1 was the creepiest of them all. The old graphics really show that vibe perfectly, which the MCC remaster graphics really missed the point of
I thought it was cool you played with the old graphics. The mood is creepier for that level. I saw you switching back and forth between old and new, and I encourage that. It makes me happy to appreciate both. Lovin the series! 🤘🏻
When this first came out, a college friend of mine quit the game because of this level and refuses to play any Halo game ever again. That was over 20 years ago.
Wow I’m sorry that there are people being rude about your gameplay! I’ve been playing Halo for ten years and I honestly think that for a beginner you have awesome instincts and you’re picking it up really fast! Keep it up! 🎉
Get ready for the library and good luck meg! You’re gonna need it… tons of it. And yeah halo ce remastered didn’t do justice to many things compared to the og graphics like the creepy factor of the swamp the blood of the aliens just all over the place
This mission is way scarier with original graphics as it is much darker and more desolate looking. Also at the start of the level did you notice how a few times your motion tracker pinged some green entities around you but you could not see them? If you did the implication is that your radar is not familiar with the biological readings given off by infected people just yet thus (while it's lime green here, in the book the blips are described as being yellow, for unknown.) It marks them green/yellow. Also classic weapon falling into a wall and continuously bouncing, rolling making thumping noises. Classic Halo glitch ya love to see it 5:30
Please, don't get discouraged by the negative comments, Meg! As someone who's here for the reactions to the story and gameplay elements, I'm not looking for professional gamer gameplay, hah. If it's between paying attention to the story and pro gameplay I'll take the former every single time!
argh the backtracking. it was bad the first time for me too. eventually you learn to orientate yourself in these levels, keeping in mind where you entered etc. and that you don't need to bother shooting at the popcorns.
Stop beig so rude with her, she's good at it for her first halo game, it might be a tough game for new players, this and all of the other halo's. Also she is still very good and i have seen her improve so much with other games as well. For example she finished being a superpro in Arkham knight, beating a lot of the dlc's missions in her first try. Give her time and you'll see how good she gets at this saga too.
I'm glad you're still enjoying the game and I'm also glad that you played this level in classic graphics, the remaster really kills the atmosphere here, you're really close to the end, it has been a really fun jorney so far (also great timing for your October game expectations) Also, congratulations on keeping your nerves in check, it is pretty common to get even more lost in this mission out of panic, but anyways, you DID mention this had something relegious to do with it, right? So here's your flood
The flood always creeped me out. But in my older yrs, its kinda fun cuz theres so many of them that its an actual challenge compared to the covenant. Especially when running out of ammo for guns you like.
You’re fine to use Remastered graphics for the most part, the only thing of note really is that in the next level there are some points where the remastered geometry extends beyond the actual collision boxes (there’s one really egregious example where you wouldn’t know a whole back end of a corner is there because the remaster puts it behind a wall you can still walk through), but that’s only for the next level. So there’ll be a handful of spots where the level feels more claustrophobic gameplay-wise than it was intended
What's amazing is you watched all of those trailers and other than a small line of text in a halo 2 trailer the flood was not revealed to you and you managed to stay unspoiled as far as I can tell lol
Lol I was waiting for this reveal ever since she said she wanted to play a scary game this month. The Flood are my favourite sci fi parasites just cause of the huge amount of L O R E they have.
You can continue playing with Remastered graphics. The majority of us only wanted for you to experience the true flood reveal. The rest of the game is fine if you play remastered (Especially the next mission for new people).
Sorry to hear you've been getting mean comments for the playthrough. Just know that the actual fans of the series are aware that Halo is more about FUN and not competition, despite what the current owners/developers of the franchise (343 industries, may they bow their heads in shame) or anyone else tries to tell you. I for one am always excited to check out someone playing this for the first time, so I can witness a fraction of the original magic I felt, so im always grateful to whoever uploads their playthrough of it as long they respect it by paying attention to it's narrative.
...isnt there a moment where you can see the flood in the trees in earlier missions before encountering them? I read that somewhere, or in another comment section.
So I guess I was playing a scary game for October all along... haha... ahaha...
Nice head shots at 2:35!
Perfect timing, hopefully it wasn't spoiled and I personally apologize if any comment I made on previous videos did (I tried to be very careful)
Yeah this suddenly got scary and it will only increase on scary
I was biting my tongue after you said you wanted to do a scary game in the last one 🤣. Sorry to hear some people are being rude, you are doing great and experiencing a true classic unspoiled.
Oh meg the flood ARN’T as scary as MALEFOR’S golem when it eats Spyro in dotd XD.
PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE: Prolonged exposure to the next level may induce episodes of insanity.
This may be one of the funniest comments I've ever read.

Thats what I loved about World at War. Absolutely nothing until the very first person beat the campaign.
There are a couple hints about the flood but they're extremely subtle. One of them is when Captain Keyes drops out of contact. First time players will think nothing of it and move on but it's the first clue that something's about to go really wrong.
Technically Floods are NO Zombies, The are parasites, which take the intelligence of their hosts.

This is almost what I did but I was going to ask Caleb and I'm 28
Same here except I was 7, it took me weeks to finally muster the courage to do it. Absolute nightmare fuel.

Everyone talks about how dead space reinvigorated sci-fi horror for games. They fail to remember this game, and the introduction to the flood.
343 Guilty Spark is one of the best Twists in your usual shooter where it's about one faction vs another faction and then the devs threw the Flood half way through this mission. The food are basically Space Zombies.
Space zombies intelligent enough to use firearms and traverse space.
Don't worry, 20 years later and I still get lost on that level
yuhhh im pushiing 30, i have to take assist from youtube
First-time reactions to the Flood are a pleasure to watch.
Thanks for playing with original graphics for this level. The atmospheric storytelling is much better in the original settings than in the MCC updated version.
I don't know what they were thinking for the remaster. It's way to flashy and the blood and gore feels toned down
Agreed. The dark lighting of the original set the tone for the level. They effed up with the Anniversary edition.
Creepy to think that this level is early on in the game AND YET... its the last level in the game that you fight alongside the marines. Shows how devastating the flood is
My OCD need to conserve ammo made me flinch in pain when you were shooting at the little crawlers with the shotgun.

Classic Halo glitch ya love to see it 5:30
17:40 Meg, whatever these things are they’re not friendly.
i like how the graphics keeps on switching
Don't worry about the gameplay criticism, it's your first run. You're doing fine lol
The flood recording scene changed me as a kid, I was like, 7
Please, don't get discouraged by the negative comments, Meg!
I'm having a blast watching you play !!
Sweet! Cosmic horrors beyond comprehension! My favourite
I'm glad you're still enjoying the game and I'm also glad that you played this level in classic graphics, the remaster really kills the atmosphere here, you're really close to the end, it has been a really fun jorney so far (also great timing for your October game expectations)
Also, congratulations on keeping your nerves in check, it is pretty common to get even more lost in this mission out of panic, but anyways, you DID mention this had something relegious to do with it, right?
The Primodial Zombies from Spaces!!!!!!!
You are doing good. There is no reason to take haters serious. Ofc there will be always someone that will try to annoy you.
Thank you :)
Your gameplay is better than you realize
This made my morning haha thank you!!
kankrelat code lyoko
...isnt there a moment where you can see the flood in the trees in earlier missions before encountering them? I read that somewhere, or in another comment section.
This level is scary
Nice job! Shotgun Hero 😎
