    The popular host of CBC's 'Q' - Jian Ghomeshi - is on the show. Jian has a new memoir called '1982', which goes back to his life as a 14-year-old kid of Persian heritage growing up in a largely white Toronto suburb. Much of '1982' is about the search for acceptance - something Jian would eventually find (although perhaps not from Billy Bob Thornton).

    I love me some Q---been listening to it for over a year on WDET in Detroit, and I like Jian's voice, as well as the show--there's always some fascinating interviews on there. Plus it's funny to see him acting so shy (nothing wrong with that) while getting interviewed for a change. He complains about his nose, but he was a cutiie when he was younger, and he looks pretty good now. for his age. I still love the show---wish I had CBC Channel 9 in Windsor back to see THE HOUR, dammit!

    Hey, he may or may not be a criminal, but nobody can deny his talent solely on those grounds. I mean, whatever the verdict, he was entertaining.

    • @debitaylor7866
      @debitaylor7866 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Frabjous Yes and so is a Hurricane at a safe distance, so how would you like it if one of your female family member was touched by his TALENT

    • @Frabjous1
      @Frabjous1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wait, what? Why did you even make this comment? I'm not even defending him; I'm just stating that he was entertaining, and you're making a false analogy. He was entertaining for a reason completely unrelated to his allegedly destructive nature: he was articulate and brought good content to his show. A hurricane, as you so sadistically pointed out, is entertaining to *you* _because_ of its violence, causing damage to people and property.

    • @Frabjous1
      @Frabjous1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tl;dr Don't bring the completely irrelevant argument of whether "I" would like it if a loved one was abused to a *comment about someone's ability to entertain.*

    • @debitaylor7866
      @debitaylor7866 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Frabjous You may have found him entertaining but I thought he was arrogant and self serving in anything I had seen him in. And as far as good content is concerned he interviewed who he was told to interview. And I am entitled to my opinion.I can remember many times he had made a statement only to have to back peddle.

    • @Frabjous1
      @Frabjous1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Debi Taylor See, this is a proper argument because it actually contests my opinion. You are indeed entitled to your opinion, and thanks for sharing it. While I agree that he was self-serving, I would argue that you still need to be entertaining in order to weasel your way to the top.
      A tip: Next time, please share your opinion when it's relevant instead of starting off with an overly emotional response. Thanks!

    I need to relate an incident involving my wife & Jian Ghomeshi. You people can judge whether we should report it to police. My wife was walking home one rainy night after a yoga session. She made the mistake of taking a shortcut along a dark & narrow walkway, railed on both sides. Directly in her path, as if waiting for her, was Jian Ghomeshi. My wife stopped in her tracks, startled, while Ghomeshi just stared at her.
    After regaining her composure, my wife politely but firmly asked Ghomeshi to step aside so she could pass. He apparently refused to do so, & continued to menacingly block her path. At this point my wife became flustered, & fearing something bad was about to happen, she began to plead with him to let her go, that she had a husband & child, that she just wanted to get home... Ghomeshi still refused to budge.
    It was only after several minutes of begging Ghomeshi not to harm her that my wife finally realized it wasn't Ghomeshi after all. In fact, it wasn't even a person. It was a large garbage bag. Badly shaken, my wife pushed by the bag,& continued home. When she got home she made a ham sandwich. She wanted to put mustard on it but there was none.
    Now, all this time later, in light of recent developments, we're both struggling with whether to go public with this incident & formally report it to the police.

Three women filing 4 charges going back over a decade ago... seems legit... and everyone jumped on the band wagon to beat the guy while he was down with no regards for due process and courts ruling. Canada lost a real talent here and no one is accountable.

    McLean's Magazine, 11/06/2014:
    "But years before his rise as a feminist hero, he had a reputation as a male feminist pig, at least according to Kerry Eady, who attended York in 1988-89 and lived in Stong residence. Eady recalls attending a meeting with 25 other women convened by female residence advisers at Stong before Christmas 1988 to warn them, after a few women had reported having “bad dates” with (Jian) Ghomeshi. Those allegations involving hitting; one women claimed she’d been choked in the stairwell. In echoes of responses to alleged harassment at the CBC 25 years later, the York women were told to be vigilant-and to work around him, Eady told Maclean’s. “We were told to report his presence in co-ed floors or at house parties so residence advisers could escort him out. He was considered a creep.”"
    That's 26 years ago ...... Jian Ghomeshi was 21 years of age then.

    I used to think that the opposite of love
    is not hate, or hatred, but indifference. For
    if you love another, you will get angry if
    you see him, or her, doing something wrong.
    But then I realized that that is only true for
    that scenario, being a passive observer of
    another's affairs. For if another you "fancy"
    hurts you, you may react with indifference,
    because you love her so. But if you do NOT
    care for her, and she hurts your feelings, you
    are apt to "clock her". I mean to say, hurt her
    back, double, and then some more - so she
    will know, not to "mess" with you, again.
    From one of those Dirty Harry movies :
    "Now, you gotta ask yourself a question,
    Do I feel lucky?"

    Jian clearly still believes all his fans are imbeciles .... tells them about his $50MM+ lawsuit against the CBC, when he knows full well that a unionized employee can't sue his employer for employment contract matters -- $50 or $50MM, dudn't matter. He can file a grievance via his union and they can take it all the way to arbitration. The court will throw his suit out before the end of the week.
    But Jian doesn't tell his fans all that. Turns out, Jian doesn't tell his fans a lot, expect that he is an open and honest guy --- yes, he does tell his adoring fans that.

    Are we expected to believe that Strombo did not know about the stench surrounding Jian? Yey he still had him on the show --- this is why he got away with it for so long.

  • @Luvie1980

    Talk about a fall from grace. I wondered why he was no longer on Q CBC. Then I did some research and I was shocked. Some of the accuser sound like the Bill Cosby accusers. And it is pretty sad that someone you thought was a cool person is in reality the complete opposite. I wonder if there is more to this story then what the media is letting us know, maybe they wanted Jian out for a long time and this was the perfect opportunity to do it. But despite all of this, he is a very good interviewer. Not everything is as it seems.

    Jian is a charming bad boy. That's what women like, right? -- Until he doesn't call them back for a second date and then they detest him. So three weird sisters colluded to get him jailed. That failed, but they did manage to take him down, to the delight of multitudes, but he'll make a comeback. Ladies, eat your heart out. You can't own him!

    The CBC has lowered it's standards by hiring what it considers hep, with-it interviewers, in an effort to target the young. That's fine, but "young" doesn't mean immature, egocentric narcissists, who are as transparent as jellyfish (one of them, apparently as dangerous). In addition I heard a CBC executive making disparaging and dismissive remarks about listeners over 65. According to Statistics Canada, 2011,
    " Population aged 60 to 64 growing most rapidly
    Of all five-year age groups, the 60 to 64 year old group experienced the fastest increase, at 29.1% . This suggests that population aging will accelerate in Canada in the coming years, as the large baby boom generation, those born between 1946 and 1965, reaches 65 years old. The first baby boomers reached 65 years old in 2011"
    THEY DISREGARD US AT THEIR PERIL. Bring back the dignity and integrity of people like Peter Gzoski (sp)

    I really wonder what's going to happen to him once the trial is over. Based on how the justice system works, it looks like he's going to get acquitted. Even if the allegation may be true. I doubt that when this is all over he'll just completely disappear from the media landscape... Maybe he'll end up on the BBC, he does have dual citizenship after all. His reputation is ruined in Canada for sure.

    Jian Ghomeshi was on top of his thing when he got interviewed by Strombo.
    I've met the guy once : he went onstage to introduce a musical act.
    Before walking onstage he was surrounded by what looked like media or tv people and he looked really nervous.
    Then he walked up the stage and did a great job, he has a great voice and knows how to make good use of it.
    His case is really complex : there's talk of his being the biggest star at CBC at the time and acting like a prima donna. There's also talk of CBC producers receiving an envelope containing photos portraying bruises on a woman's body allegedly the result of an encounter with Jian Ghomeshi.
    He was accused of sexual abuse, went to court and got acquitted (since his accusers' tactics were proven to be deceptive - and one has to wonder why they lied).
    He came from being a Canadian immigrant success story to fodder for racists.
    Yet sometimes I wonder whether his biggest "crime" was being successful in a white man's world.

      @Biz Nasty You don't need to call me names. And I'm aware of this quest for ultimate purity of intentions by the radical left. And I do agree that this self-righteous attitude can turn itself into a sort of cannibalism thing with the radical left eating its own. And on my comment, the last line is a question. As an explanation, it's over simplistic and way too partial. The guy was acquitted yet it seems like he was no angel, with reports implying his prima donna behaviour while working at the CBC.

    • @mottahead6464
