I noticed you checked the temperature of the joint of the pliers. Is there a reason why you're not checking the temperature of the plier tips, where contact with the prongs will be made? In my experience with soldering irons, the tip temperature can vary a great deal from the barrel temperature.
Rob, The angle that my hands were at the camera causes me to miss the jaws of the pliers. So I aimed at the joint of the pliers because it was widest spot to hit.
