    As a Bucks fan, I still can’t believe it. Even tho I will miss Holiday and what he did for us, Bucks GM Jon Horst was a genius for making him the center piece for Lillard
    Also shoutout to Phoenix for finally letting go of their buyers remorse from passing on Doncic for Ayton by trading him

      Ayton has flaws but ultimately he still could’ve been a good center for them for the next decade. If the suns don’t win it all nets will be drafting very high with the suns picks in the future they own, a bit of a turn of fortunes

      Favorites are useless. Playoffs are unpredictable as Popovic says. Remember the Bucks have a rookie coach and the pressure to get in the East is not easy. Jrue is their best perimeter defender and very vocal on defense. Bucks could go to best in defending 3's to the most allowed 3pt FGs quickly.

  • @andreamicucci2396
    @andreamicucci2396 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Nurk is a better rebounder and shooter than Ayton. Considering how many shots their top 3 in Phoenix will take, having a big like Nurkic who don't demand the ball and will still fight for boards even when they aren't feeding him will give the suns alot of 2nd chance points which is a nightmare for any team facing them

  • @Urgelt
    @Urgelt ปีที่แล้ว +44

    The Suns might not have done badly with this trade. They had to move Ayton. No choice. He was neither contented nor living up to expectations, and $30 million per year is a lot of cap space for the value he provided. Nurkic is a capable center when healthy. There is risk there, but they weren't going to find anyone better. And if he does stay healthy, it's a win for Phoenix.
    So the Suns lightened their salary load and it didn't cost them anything they wanted to keep.
    The trade does not elevate their chances of a championship. But it didn't hurt their chances, either. They still are contenders. If they can avoid the injury bug, they'll sit near the top of their conference again. They've got a shot. Really, that's all you can ask of a front office.
    Will Dame mesh well with the Bucks? Probably. He's a great player. But the Bucks lost a bit of ground defensively. Not a wash, probably, but it might not put them over the top. We shall see.
    As for the Blazers, they got younger. Now it's a matter of rebuilding. They have some picks they can spend and some trade assets to help them along.
    Who won the trade? I think all 3 franchises placed winnable bets. Now we just have to see what they can do with what they each gained.

    • @Urgelt
      @Urgelt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@buenvidanadz1969 yes. They might not be.
      There are a lot of variables in play.
      I expect they could do very well if the chemistry works and if they can avoid injuries. But that chapter has not yet been written.
      It's clearly too soon to dismiss the Suns' reconfiguration. If Nurkic can deliver reliably, they may have gained ground. He's a better defender, one of the few who can bang with Jokic and slow him down. They didn't really need Ayton's offense. Offense, they've got in plenty.
      As for Portland, we'll see how well they make use of picks and how well they can develop their young core. They could become formidable, though probably not so much immediately. Rebuilds take time and nothing is certain.

      It's a little weird you say for the Bucks the chapter is still unwritten and so you cant really say theyre the big winners of this blockbuster deal yet but then you say portland and the suns have extreme potential to gain from their fruits of the deal.

    I disagree with your assessment.
    Bucks are fine, they got the star in the deal, Dame will lead Giannis to re-signing and they will keep their championship window open for the foreseeable future.
    Suns got the better deal than the Blazers (pending what happens with Jrue, if they trade him then what will they get in return). I think Nurkic is a better fit than Ayton for this team because Ayton is more suited to a run&gun style (I think Ayton's best version of himself would be a spawn of David Robinson). However, Ayton is weak, he's not strong compared to other top Centers in the league and he's ineffective outside of 15ft where Nurkic is capable of shooting 3s (not great from 3 but going 1-3 or 2-4 isn't unheard of for him). He's not a great screen-setter which is what you'd want when your 3 scorers are primarily midrange shooters and Beal as a slasher. He doesn't give you much when it comes to boxing out either which is what you want on a jumpshooting team, Nurkic is much more of an interior presence in that aspect. When it comes to Defense, I'd rather have a big body like Nurkic trying to slow down Jokic, because we all saw what he did to AD in the playoffs.
    Blazers got Ayton, who simply wont do much for the young guys because like I said, he's weak.
    But yeah, Suns have a bunch of depth now, considering they have Vogel, a Defensive minded coach, he has plenty of tools in terms of role players to mix it up on Defense. Phoenix will be formidable.

    The Blazers are a fringe playoff team at best after this deal but the real key could be what the future holds for their picks down the line. That, plus whatever they can get for Jrue Holiday (whom the Blazers are reportedly looking to flip for prospects and/or more picks).

    • @seand1011
      @seand1011 ปีที่แล้ว

      @jean-patricepaluku4754 - That's why I said they are a FRINGE PLAYOFF TEAM AT BEST, as they are constructed NOW. It's certainly more likely they won't even get in, and if they do follow through with trading Jrue, then they WILL in fact be a lottery team since they're building for the future.

    The Bucks getting Dame was crazy. When you pair his high scoring ability with Giannis, that team is going to be scary. And also Dame needed to get out of there. He’s wasted numerous years in Portland trying to win but he was never going to. A player of his caliber deserves to be on a winning team and Portland was never going to provide that. Now he gets a fresh start in Milwaukee where he has created the scariest duo in the league. On the Blazers side of things, losing Jrue is a huge loss defensively for the bucks. His scrappiness and toughness on Defense was something the Bucks needed to get them over the hump and win the title. Jrue achieved that in 2021. Now he can be a mentor to the young guys in Portland and help them grow. As for Deandre Ayton the Suns needed to get rid of him. He was never going to improve and just stagnate as a player in Phoenix. Now he gets a fresh start in Portland. Excited to see what he does with it. The Suns literally got the last remaining table scraps.

  • @donaldjones9830
    @donaldjones9830 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I disagree. The Suns got a center that has injury concerns. What they need is to play their backup centers or play Durant at center if necessary. I think the Suns get an A, because both them and Portland had disgruntled centers. Nurkic is older but more experienced in ways in play Ayton wasn’t. Nurkic can hit threes, is a good free throw shooter and is a team player. Ayton is immature.
    I agree the Suns deserved more. They are waiving Keon. Allen is declining and not a great teammate. Having Nurk stretch the floor and provide rim protection is good for them.
    Portland isn’t necessarily guard heavy. They have a lot of players who could play guard or forward. What they need is to trade Holiday for a younger backup point guard and get another team to trade them a pick and another wing that can shoot. Even if it means giving up another bad contract like Knox.
    Blazers overall summer grade from the draft to now is lower because of the signing of Knox. Dumbest move by Cronin this year.
    The Bucks got a better guard, yes, but being forced by Phoenix to because of Ayton, cost them a player whom Portland might give to another East team that could hurt the Bucks in the playoffs. They now pay Dame’s contract which lowers their grade from the trade. They better hope they don’t get burned by the trade by losing to Miami or Boston.
    Portland should trade Holiday to Boston, because I believe they have better players on expiring contracts or players like Pritchard, a former Oregon high school player. Payton would be an upgrade at backup point guard and getting another front court player wouldn’t hurt. Boston has an overcrowded front court. They have picks also.
    I don’t like Miami, the Clippers or 76ers. Trading for Harden or Lowry or Jovic or Paul just to try to trade them if you can for more assets is dumb.
    The Blazers were aided by the Bucks and will get a massive haul for Holiday. Trading him to a West team makes winning harder.
    You can overdo the acquiring stockpile of draft picks as OKC has done. The only reason if they need a backup guard like Holiday would be to use a third team to pry future picks from them. A third team would help them get rid of extra players under contract and help Portland and the other third team.
    The Suns have several albatross contracts and I think Nurk and Durant will work together well. Nurk will focus on rebounding and not on offense. He can spread the floor and maybe hit threes. There is plenty of shoot first ball hog offensive minded players. They will only contend if Nurk, Booker and Durant stay healthy
    The same reason applies to Dame and Giannis in Milwaukee.

    As a Heat fan, I was upset about this trade but I understand why the Blazers would not trade Lillard to Miami. Tyler Herro was supposed to be apart of that trade discussion, knowing the Blazers already got guards like Henderson and Simons, they didn’t want another guard. Out of that three team trade, I feel Phoenix won that trade by getting Nurkic who can rebound and clear out space for Booker, Beal and Durant. If Lillard stays healthy for the Bucks they’re definitely gonna be a scary team. And we could see a rematch between Phoenix and Milwaukee in the finals next year. Feel bad for Miami though, this could be their last chance on getting Jimmy Butler some help after making the finals this year. Wasting Jimmy’s prime and he just turned 34, Pat Riley better find Jimmy some help and fast.

The trade definitely puts the Bucks as one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference. Boston has done good work tweaking their roster. I'm curious what Philadelphia will do? I still believe the Miami Heat will make something interesting.

    Finally Dame landed with a contender team and playing alongside former MVP.
    This duo will be dangerous no doubt
    All I am thinking is the pick & roll between Dame and Gainnis 🔥💨

  • @AxelJanson

    As great as Dame is, he is a liability on defense. He gets killed in the pick n roll. Plus his age and injury concerns. As well as Middleton. If Middleton and Dame go down for any length of time, it's Giannis and the Jimmy Buckets 3rd Stringers.

    For the Suns it seems more like addition by subtraction. They get rid of a big contract disgruntled player for a player that's at least as serviceable and won't complain about not being the teams centerpiece. They also gained some depth which was their biggest problem after Ayton's unhappiness. It's a trade where everyone won.

  • @Prince_mt12

    Ok this is how I breakdown this trade
    Bucks - they won big time just from the fact that Giannis is happy again. They showed him that they are willing to flip everything just for him to stay on the team
    Blazers- they won this big time. They are actually the biggest winner in this trade. They can finally start over now and prepare for the future plus added picks and a great mentor or a great trade piece to get even more assets.
    Suns - They needed cap space to fill up their bench. I think they will be the biggest buyers this summer trade deadline. Also they got rid of what supposed to be a fcking ego centric player.
    All in all everyone won.

    Very unpopular opinion:
    If haelthy, Nurkic is better than Ayton, especially as a fit in Suns, which got destroyed by Jokic, since Nurkic is a lot stronger and you need power rather than athleticism to defend Jokic.

    If Middleton is healthy in the playoffs, they have a chance in the east. But they have a first year coach, and no defense in the perimeter. The Heat and the Celtics are way more relatable to me.

    Milwaukee easy W.
    Portland gets a solid center that looks good on paper with Scoot. Jrue to flip for more assets. A promising future building potential.
    Phoenix…eh. Potentially added depth and getting out of a max contract. I don’t think they got good value for Ayton though.

    After Giannis' comments, GM must have realized that they can't just leave things as they are. If Giannis were to be released, it would be the worst possible development. Even so, I was really surprised that Lillard went to the Bucks, but I personally think it was a good choice to acquire Lillard even if it means letting go of Holiday and Allen.
