Turning a Finial With Carbide Tools

- This is video #2 on turning finials. After posting the previous video, I was asked if this could be accomplished with carbide tools, so this video is the answer.
I tried a different lens on my camera that resulted in less than stellar video quality however, I will be back to the original lens next time.

That was interesting to watch, especially in comparison. I think I need to finally commit to flipping my inserts. I do not think they are still that sharp after all that OSB. And I somehow missed that there is a micro version of the detailer, too! Thanks for sharing, Darryl!
Thanks for posting such a great demo of how to use carbide tools for this delicate work. The techniques and pointers you shared were immensely helpful to me in turning tops with micro carbide tools. Any recommendation regarding optimal rpm for finial work, for the shaping work? How about for the sanding phase? Thanks again!
Thank you. I typically turn these between 1700 and 2000 rpm yo get the cleanest cuts. I always slow it way down for sanding typically between 500 and 700 rpm. Hope this helps.
Man if I ever get back to the states... you gonna have to teach me some lathe stuff... lol (will shout yah a beer... lol)
How to turn a finial: Put wood in lathe. Now, remove anything that is not part of the finial. The end.
