I would be afraid to damage the spring loaded connectors on the camera, they are supposed to slide along smooth gold plated flat connectors. Electrical tape is soft and could grab one of the camera connectors and break it off or bend it or eventually wear it out prematurely, theoretically because I don't know for sure so I will not be applying this work around to my olympus camera. (it does not give an error, it just does not work shows black viewfinder). I thought the EF-M1 was manual but it has the same pins so It probably has the same problem. I have not updated the firmware on mine and that might do it but I don't think it will.
My exact same thoughts. The tape will eventually start to separate and leave a residue that could potentially damage the gold connectors of the camera. It helped me to go to the menu panel of the camera and switch on the option of recording without a lens feature. That will tell the camera that there is no lens on, yet it will record while having the adapter on.

I have version II of this viltrox adapter but it is practically the same problem. That "mistake" keeps confusing me though. I just have a samyang / rokinon lens that would not work without this trick, but precisely the lens you used I have tried and I have no problem using it without anything. I have also seen that there are people who have no problem using the famous 58mm Helios 44-2, however the error appears to me. I still believe that this bug could be eliminated in software, but I highly doubt that Panasonic will release an update that benefits the use of third-party lenses, despite the famous combination of a focal reducer and the GH5
Interesting, I got the same issue even with AF Canon Lenses, with a Lumix G7, it appears randomly. But If I cover the contacts I would not be able to use the AF. Are u experiencing the same issues with the AF Lenses? I eventually fixed, just turning the lens a little bit backward, without hearing the click of the lens lock. But I don't feel safe with this method.

This newer version of the adapter doesn’t have this issue with manual lenses, but i did have the issue you described with AF lenses. I downgraded the firmware for the adapter and that seemed to solve the problem. Hope that helps.

GH5 with Viltrox with tamron 70-200 2.8 di vc usd. thanks for the suggestion... Now it no longer displays the error from before and once it is on it asks me to set the focal length. However, the problem now is that it does not recognize the focal length (2.8) and displays 0.0. But the biggest problem is that it does not allow me to change the lens aperture. Do you have any other good suggestions?
The video was for manual lenses and not electronic lenses. This work around only works with manual lenses because there is no need for communication between lens and camera body, sorry about that. Have you tried updating or downgrading the firmware??
Hi! I have another problem using GH5m2 + Viltrox EF-M2 II with manual lenses. The screen still shows images fine, but none of the buttons work. When I hit any buttons, It just instantly goes back to the main screen. I cannot even hit the record button, nothing works. Does anyone knows how to fix that, thanks!
This is quite strange. Have you tried updating the adapter? Also, update the camera? I’d also consider resetting the camera (backup your camera settings). If none of these steps work then get in touch with Panasonic.
I did update them both. The speed booster works fine with electronic lenses, and the manual lenses work fine with a normal adapter. Only the combination between manual lenses and the speed booster has a problem. I think I have to live with it, thanks for your help!

This is very subjective. By minute one of the video I’m already introducing viewers to the issue which I’m about to help work around. I think context is important particularly when discuss technical issues and workarounds. You may disagree and that’s fine. You can always buy the second version which allows for manual lenses.
