This was an interesting change of pace from your usual railroad videos. I know you were trying to keep the concepts simple so we everyday blokes could keep up and that is appreciated. I was surprised that you did not mention how different geometric are affected by stress or even resist stress. The strongest shape, if my memory serves me, is the sphere, and hence the proliferation of shapes used today are derivatives of the sphere, mainly cylindrical shapes that people run into everywhere every day. You mentioned compression with an illustration of a soda can (a derivative of a sphere). I am curious, what would the stress be called if the spherical container blew up based on the internal pressure such as a boiler?

I believe it would be tensile stress, as the internal pressure would put the vessel into tension as it contains the contents.
This was an interesting read: emweb.unl.edu/negahban/em325/18-pressure-vessels/pressure%20vessels.htm

@@thepwayengineer Thanks for the link, that one page took me back to an old classroom in Bainbridge Maryland (USN classroom). Also answered my question which I should have remembered from that class (48 years ago :)).
