Hello and welcome to video from BOAB Models. Today we'll be starting to build the Williams Renault FW16 Formula 1 car from 1994 which was driven by Ayrton Senna, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell and David Coulthard. The kit is in 1/20 scale from Fujimi and was first released in 2010.
This is a tribute build to the late Sir Frank Williams, founder and former owner of Williams Racing, who died on the 28th November 2021, aged 79.
The Williams FW16 is a Formula One car designed by Adrian Newey for the British Williams team. It is notable as the last car to be driven by three-time world champion Ayrton Senna before his fatal accident during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Its engine was a Renault RS6 3.5 V10.
Following a disappointing and then tragic first 3 races, the car was competitive, with Hill losing out to Schumacher in the race for the title in controversial circumstances at the final round in Australia. However, Williams did claim the Constructors championship.

I've never built a Fujimi F1 kit. This one seems to go together well, and have a good amount of detail. Good job so far

Ah... love to see some Formula 1 action Thomas. So hard to find any F1 kits now. I have 1 left in my stash being the Fujimi Sauber C30 but always on the lookout for others. I'm looking forward to the rest of the build which I'm sure will be just great.

Thanks a lot, Paul. Yeah, I was looking at the FW17 too which had some major changes like the raised nose and increased safety cell around the driver, partially due to what had happened to Senna in this car.

@@BOABModels from what I can see Thomas, the fit isn’t great. Think it will take a bit of fettling to be honest. Or it’ll end up being kerb side.

Thanks a lot! I remembered from when I made the Ferrari that Fujimi's painting instructions are a bit simple so that's why I looked up pictures on Gurney flap - it's a good resource for modellers.

Excellent work. I love your videos they are very entertaining and useful. Just a comment which is hardly relevant to you ,I quite like F1 stuff but the majority of my stuff is 1/24 or1/25 and I find it difficult to understand why the Japanese manufacturers seem to favour1/20

I wondered this too as I had made some Revell F1 kits in 1/24. Apparently it's because Tamiya used to motorise many of their models and a 1/24 F1 car was too small for the engine. That's also why there are some other random scales, such as the 1/20 Fiat rally car they released last year.

What do your brushed on paint ratios tend to be? I'm assuming the revell paints are thinned with water rather than thinner?
Yeah, and to be honest, I usually just get the paintbrush wet and aim for a sort of cream consistency. Stirring the paint helps of course.
