We use a lot of statistical information in our previews, but statistics have limitations & usually need to be considerably contextualized relative to the course.
*Even then players not uncommonly defy their own statistics.
*Justin Ray is right to emphasize the importance of shots off the tee at Sahalee, but he doesn't seem to fully understand some of the stats he accumulates & highlights. After all, the shorter the drving distance a player has, then generally the better their driving accuracy.
*The simple fact of the matter is driving accuracy is but one variable & more or less of consequence depending on the course. It's important at Sahalee, but not all-important.
*What would the stats have told anybody about the chances of Yuka Saso & Hinako Shibuno at Lancaster, yet we included both players in our preview of the US Open?
