This "cleared" up the question I had! When is my glass going to dry clear? A long freaking time from now 😄 I tried my first mosaic inspired by your work and love it! Thank you for all your great videos!
You are amazing to teach this technique! I have a lot of sea glass from Spain that I collected while we were stationed there. I want to make something special with them to keep memories from our military time there.
I don’t use grout so no worries about grout bleed. The silicone is clear so you don’t really notice it. I do clean up any that creeps out from behind the rice of glass before it sets.
@@SeaGlassArtbyJackie Hi Jackie I seem to make a mess with the silicone I’ve tried using a brush and just using a thin layer like Sue Smith does and scraping excess off with a single sided razor blade. I somehow still get it on the top of the glass when I’m doing GOG I haven’t tried sea glass yet but will do it looks just gorgeous and I love your work. Libby
@@libwade5350 thanks. You may find it easier with sea glass because you are working with thicker glass. Also if you use the small tube and squeeze a bit on instead of using a brush it may be easier to control.
I love your work, I am just starting out & I have so many ideas I Dont know where to start I have collected so much sea glass & pottery I live a 1 min walk to the beach & I love the sea glass & there is so much on my beach & its very old glass, thank you for your help :-)
Hi Jackie- Where do you find individual panes of framed glass? Craft stores seem to just have regular frames with a black backing. I want to start small.
I use recycled picture frames and just use the glass from the picture frame. I have done a few videos on preparing frames for use in a mosaic if you want yo check them out.
Thanks. I've often used a lightbox for doing patterns, and other art, but not while doing a mosaic. Thanks for the suggestion. I've been wanting to try to film a video with a lightbox underneath, but I haven't figured out the technical parts to achieve good lighting yet. Stay tuned - I'm working on it.
I was wondering how once you use the glue to keep it from clogging. Best way to preserve it for the next use. I put lid back on and a zip lock bag over top.
That's a great idea with the ziplock! I usually just put the lid on. If it clogs up a bit I use the tweezers to clear it out. Also you can cut the tip off down further. I usually use it all before it clogs up!!!
Have you ever found that the silicone yellows over time, particularly with exposure to sunlight? Some things I've read online suggest it may and suggest using MAC instead. I'd love to have your advice on that.
It’s never yellowed non me and some pieces I’ve done have been hanging in the window for several years. I’ve always found that glue products do yellow. I’m not familiar with MAC and haven’t tried it.
It dries clear so it blends in. You can still it behind the glass. I’d suggest doing a test piece to see how you like it before using your favorite sea glass.
I am realizing watching this that my tube of silicone must be faulty! It takes me both hands and tremendous squeezing to get the product out! Back to Canadian tire I go! Lolol
Your silicone may have hardened or become a bit too thick. Or you may need to cut the opening in the top a bit bigger. I’ve had this problem. Luckily the tubes aren’t too expensive. A new tube is likely in order.

So glad it is helpful. I’m so happy to be inspiring one mosaic maker at a time.

Amazing. I’d love to see what you make.
Thanks Jackie, it's good to know the details about using silicone :)
Beautiful work
Thank you
Jackie what about grout bleed underneath your sea glass?

Go for it! You're so fortunate to live so close to the beach.

What glue should you use if you are gluing to cardboard and not another sheet of glass?
I use the same product. Glass, driftwood, card stock, fabric, etc. It dries clear and holds well.
Hi Jackie.....love your work. Just wondering if you’ve ever worked with a light box?

Will the silicone stick to painted wood ?
Yes. I’ve had good luck with that.

When o glue seaglass to wood you can see the glue mark after it dries. Any solution for that?

Hi! Love your art! Do you use window panes only? I have shadow box frames and was wondering if they would work for displaying sea glass? Thank you!
Yes you can! I like to recycle frames so I’m always looking for some interesting ones. Shadow boxes would be beautiful. Enjoy.

@@SeaGlassArtbyJackie thanks for the tips!
I know you’re very professional but is what shows really that bad? I blew up a pic you said was bad n couldn’t see anything
You're right. You can't really see it as it dries clear, but I still try to be neat, as I can notice a difference if there's too much silicone.
