I took it out back(we lived on a farm). And fired it. Using the loaded mag. Worked great. Funny how this answers two other ? I see a lot. How long does ammo last and how long can you keep a magazine loaded. The answer to both(at leas for govt ammo and mags) is at least 50 years... You should do some close up shots on your 1911. Did they stamp it US Government Property back then?

I've found an US army Colt 1911-1918 while magnet fishing, I don't think it'll ever be able to shoot again (he's totally blocked), but just the way he looks is beautiful, and it probably fought in WWII!
I don't care what others say but 1911's are still good guns. If I was legally allowed to carry one where I live would I carry one today? No probably not but I would definitely own one.

For the first shot you have to cock the hammer yourself, but after that the moving slide cocks the hammer for you
