Last days is my favorite, when you feel the same way as Blake or Kurt in the movie you connect with him and feel him, the movie is very personal for me and that’s why it’s my favorite

Van Sant is one of the very best directors we've been blessed with. Watch Elephant as regularly as you. The theme surrounding the pain of adolescence hits me hard, and makes it make some sense to me. Art like this makes life worth living. Great presentation

Last Days is one of my favorite 2000s movies. It's the most abstract movie about leaving life I've ever seen. It's almost as if a part of Blake is already gone, and now throughout the movie the rest is following, mumbling in a language only he seems to understand, being completely cut-off from the world, almost symbolically watching the others from his cabin and in the end his body simply lost to gravity (for lack of a better way of putting it). Of course it can be a boring experience, and re-watching it won't happen that often, but it's a very great conceptual-piece that I obviously really liked.

*Disturbing Fact* : Jeff Weiss the shooter of the Red Lake massacre, watched Elephant prior 17 days before the D-Day and there's also rumor Eric Pekka the first school shooter in Finland owns a copy of elephant, this movie is triumph at certain level, neither superhero or gangster movie could topple over it

The only movie from the trilogy I really enjoyed and one of my personal favorite is elephant. Gerry and last days was okay but not as good as elephant. They both dragged on and on and I quickly lost my interest in them. Elephant is one of Gus van sants best films out of the trilogy. Good review!👍👍👍 I couldn't agree with you more.

14:10 what I do with other region discs is use an external USB DVD drive with my computer and run the movie through a free program called DVD Shrink. It makes a copy that's region-free. I burn that to a disc and keep it in a paper sleeve inside the original copy's DVD box.

mercy kills right before salvation are the single most horror invoking thing in cinema imo. what was the scariest part of the mist for example? not the unknown or the monsters or the betrayal of humanity in the face of fear but how all those things pushed to that ending. that is why the one in Gerry doesn't work as well despite being conceptionally more real.

    FOR GERRY
im a fan of real time movies (tahts what i call them )movies with the long shots and fixed angles . it forces for a more interactive experience, more life like. in turn, the long cuts forces thought, question, what would i do in that situation, what would i think, space out , come back- very virutal reality like. movies done like this will cause a physical reaction, like for urself u said u would zone out , well quess what happens when ur hiking, u sort of have these existential moments. the visuals are there in present for the beeuty and the extentisivly long cuts really puts ur head into it. mvoies like this, irreversable and enter the void (using disorientation and colors to really fuck u up) or the what the fuckness of movies like gummo with conversation, gus van sants elephant school shooting scene is intense where ur in the pilot seat. anyways hollywood depicts overdramatized drama and action to keep ur attention and sell u the next scene. i feel this is more like ride in the drivers seat in a 2001 space oddesy sort of grandiose way.
as for the plot well theres been a few intrepetations of this . I personally took it for face value and thought it was extremly sad, after innocently getting lost, in the end, he basically put his friend out of his misery , only to find during a psychdelic like,/ floating-to-death-state ( the clouds get alll weird and crazy ) , only to find the highway was just right there! hearing the cars some time later and bringing damons energy up and him back to life saving only himself in the end. sad as fuck
plot theory 2- it was all pre emptive murder with damon dragging afleck around til his death, for reasons unknown. that him, being strogner, more pre pared, and taking the alpha role knew what he was geting into cause at the point afleck collapses, and then he kills him, he changes direction immediatly and sees the highway and heads that way. theres clues discussed in another review of this movie you can look into that video, (peeing showing damon was hydrated and more psycially prepared by not being out of breath unlike afleck, damon shutting down every affleck idea, damon using the shirt as turbane as survival tool, its all afleck leading him to the spot just for him to exhuast himself and die. dont really buy this theory but its crazy to look into.
plot theory 3- its all damon , affleck is metaphoric the weak side of himself he needs to kill off to survive, hence having the same name gerry. thaere is a halluciantion/thoght shot if damon by himself standing by the car breaking the 3rd wall looking at the camera. i think it happens around the time of the killing, not posetive but its there. its more symbolic and metaphoric to kill off the imphant in you that holds you back ( and then he sitting by a child in the backseat seeing himself detached?)
plot 4- what i saw in the comments that its more like theory one but instead of him sadly putting his friend out of misery, he kills out of being triggerd in frustration . that for after all this , now hes giving up. like, u bastard how could u let me drag u around this whole time to just give up.... lol
all interesting, and makes for a cool movie

Nice review, last days was off to me, other than some visuals that were spot on I never got the feeling It was Kurdt, kinda felt more like a Johnny Depp Benny and Joon feeling
The depression and self imposed isolation were decent
I guess just a little exposition to let us know what led up to the last days at that property and who his roommate was woulda been good
    Great review

The drug use is implied in the beginning of the movie where he digs up his Tom Moore box which Kurt used in real life to put his smack paraphernalia and him swaying and falling on the bed afterwards. Seeing someone shoot up doesn't really add anything.

A suicidal drug addict! Haha a little too relatable!
I think Gerry is the best movie here. The score by Aveo Part, the cinematography, even the dialogue. For a movie with little dialogue it sure has a lot to quote from! This doesn't ring true for Elephant or Last Days. I love Elephant by its own rite.
Last days was more of a struggle, i should like it but i can't say i did. Like all Gus it has merit and for that reason alone I'll keep trying it. What you watch this stuff on could play a vital role on your feeling, if you have low res, poor sound then that's a huge loss. But then again i originally watched all this stuff on a pos potato of a TV in the early 2000s. Got my dell XPS 4k glory now but still a suicidal drug addict!😵‍💫😋😉

17:00 the best gay movie is Cruising (1980) starring Al Pacino. It's about a cop going undercover in the gay community's nightclubs hoping to bait a serial killer that's been frequenting gay bars and sex clubs. His type resemble Pacino's look, so he's sent in to lure the killer.
