You may not consider yourself much of a bass player but you make a great demo. Straightforward, no talking, simple demonstration of a product. THANK YOU.
I'm an owner of this, and it truly is sick! Legit 2nd order harmonic goodness with natural control from the knobs provided. Every bass i plug into it sounds better, no matter where the signal is going, and the knobs do exactly what you think they do. I'd only trade up to the DI version for the XLR. Everyone who hears it either figures it's the real thing, or just can't believe how great it sounds.
BTW - your reviews are the best, Brett - exactly how i like them. You use the equipment as intended, AND in a real player's environment. Your tasty playing, and understanding of gear (and as many have already said) cause me to buy things...
Aside from the nice playing and the awesome pedal, this is the FIRST exhaustive and well done demo of the VT Bass. Praises to you for making and posting it.
@basshead71 Im a bassist and i think you play bass great. Even if you are a guitar player you still played the bass to show off its character and managed to play some sweet lines. after watching this video, you can now say you are a bassist
@Burgerman666 Haha, actually knowing that those string have never been changed and yet the bass sounds so good IS much help!! I'm definitely buying this and selling over my EBS. Thanks for the quick response as well
Yeah I know Jimmy. We've discussed this on TB. But I still hear a problem with the signal....Just not sure what it is. At any level I set my studio speakers on it sounds too hot. BTW I love Ampeg SVT's. The old Tube models from the 60's and 70's.
Ha ha, I hear that, he can play, but you can tell he's primarily a guitarist, LOL. Dude, just get yourself a SS bass like Mustang or SG and you'll be ready to gig tomorrow! BTW, you play bass much better than I play guitar!
Great demo mate. I have one of these pedals and I absoloutley love it. There's a lot of sounds to be had from this pedal, and for rock this is probably the best you can get. I've never really used pedals with bass but when I saw this demo'd by Sansamp I had to get one and don't regret it all.
@Maxendood this has much more mid-range and tonal possibilities. the only thing the bddi has is an xlr input, which you can get with the other version of the vt pedal.
FINALLY a real decent review of this pedal.. I'm definitely getting one... I need that kind of driven sound for my bass playing style... Nice review man. you played it nice, don't worry... The only thing i would have liked to hear is the bypassed sound of your bass, and with no drive at all changing the character knob.. but it's an awesome review man! thank you!
@TheSeafarerPaul My reason for buying this is: SVT cabs are so damn heavy! When I put this into 2x12" Markbass super lightweight cab and Little Mark 800W amp, I'll get really similar sound and don't need 5 people to carry the SVT 810"...
Burgerman, the bass is not at all that crappy as you say, and neither is your playing ;) It's obvious from your finger picking style that you're a guitar player, but decent enough and the basic bass sound is not bad at all ! Thanks for the vids, really gave me a good idea about some pedals :)
well you should be able to bust out some Temptations licks like "My Girl", but it's all in the player, the fingers, and the groove of the song. Does it clean up well on the drive?
wow awesome demo man! great range of tones displayed. Gave me a great overview of the pedal, and dont diss your playing man, your much better than me!:) the only thing i can complain about it=s that i wish you used a jazz bass cuz thats what I own haha
I modified mine so that I have an extra output where the DI goes through the pedal unaffected, this way I have 2 signals coming out of it in parallel, really badass
Very useful little box, especially when going direct, as in the controlled sound environment of theatre. The bass sound for Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT on Broadway was a (passive) P-Bass through THIS. Most of the book is played with pick and the VT added just the right amount of snarl, but it also warmed up the tone on the numbers that require a fingered technique. Also handles my MM SR5 w/active p/u's beautifully. Highly recommended.
You called that one right. The guys one of those guys that calls guitarists guitards. So what if your licks are obvious guitar licks. It sounds great. I try not to do that in the band unless I've got a battle going with the guitarist. But you aren't laying down a bass groove here, this is a demo. And a good one.
First I want to say that this is well made video with great quality audio and video. Also well designed and edited. On the other hand presentation of this pedal is not 100% true. Like others, on this website, it was used with picking string and not finger plucking with fingers. Pick creates lot of percussion and you get lot more metallic sound. Also twitching DRIVE on the pedal past 11 o'clock creates distortion that you can create with almost any bass amp or guitar pedal.
Nice--but with that bass, It was screaming for some motown. A bass player myself I was waiting to hear some James Jamerson licks on the flip-top setting but I'm definetly buying this buddy.
Same to me. I sold ODB-3 .. and now looking for something better what doesn't steal bass. And doesn't make the noise. Let me know if you try this Tech 21 ;-) thx
its better than 5mins just explaining the buttons.. and besides you can check the functions of the button in almost every sites even in amazon and ebay.. :)
Also twitching HIGH pass 12 o'clock amplifies metallic sound of the strings. If that's what you are looking for...Great!!! If you'd like to create real warm bass sound, this is how I set my VT BASS: First set your amp flat with bass at 1 o'clock. If you think you are getting to bright sound lower treble on your amp or guitar. LEVEL start around 12 o'clock. MID around 11 o'clock. CHARACTER at 8-9 o'clock. DRIVE not more then 10 o'clock. LOW at 1-2 o'clock and HIGH not more then 12 o'clock.
lmao i knew you were playing dazed and confused on the first note! xD you should call your self a bass player btw, your pretty damn good, you dont over do it, and have a nice groove for the pocket
was everything set flat on your power supply/preamp? I'm trying to get that deep/ping King's X sound....I see wjhat the VT will do but what amp settings?
I've been thinking of replacing my EBS MultiDrive 'cause it doesn't cut through in a band situation. Would you recomend me this one as an upgrade? Also: Are those new strings you're using? What gauge?
@Burgerman666 bro you should try out DR strings. Awesome for all genres of music ;) I play rock (soft-metal) and funk and it's doing my performance justice ;)
"Fail" pfft! So what's your logic here, picks are for guitars and not basses? I'll tell you what's even more out of place on a bass other than playing one with a pick - having more than four strings.
If that's the case then I am not impressed. I've heard this pedal in other demos as well as live and I still say it's clipping the speakers. In many of those files I've heard it sounds exactly like an SVT. This sounds terrible imho.
You may not consider yourself much of a bass player but you make a great demo. Straightforward, no talking, simple demonstration of a product. THANK YOU.
Great demo! I bought this pedal 5 years ago thanks to your demo and still loving it. Recently I started to run drums through pedal... sounds great!
I'm an owner of this, and it truly is sick!

Good review. It simply shows the settings and the sound that accompanies. No endless diatribes about each knob.

For not pretending to be a bass player, you sure are pretty darn good on the bass, man.
Ha ha, I hear that, he can play, but you can tell he's primarily a guitarist, LOL. Dude, just get yourself a SS bass like Mustang or SG and you'll be ready to gig tomorrow! BTW, you play bass much better than I play guitar!
Finally, a demo for this where the player has chops! Very nice. Really liking this VT line.
best demo of the vt bass so far
Great demo mate. I have one of these pedals and I absoloutley love it. There's a lot of sounds to be had from this pedal, and for rock this is probably the best you can get. I've never really used pedals with bass but when I saw this demo'd by Sansamp I had to get one and don't regret it all.
I've tried one out and as far as I can tell, no noise issues. It's good if you have a solid state amp.
@KillerFridge awesome, I'm thinking of buying it for my rickenbacker bass.
Burgerman, the bass is not at all that crappy as you say, and neither is your playing ;) It's obvious from your finger picking style that you're a guitar player, but decent enough and the basic bass sound is not bad at all !

very informative vid Burgerman, thanks
this looks like a very versatile pedal, I'm definitely going to get one next payday
Well you sure convinced me, i just ordered one, partly thanks to this video! Don't be to hard on your bass playing man, you're quite good ;)
Great demo of this pedal. I just wish it had a meatier sound to it like the Amptweaker bass pedals.
I modified mine so that I have an extra output where the DI goes through the pedal unaffected, this way I have 2 signals coming out of it in parallel, really badass
Do you have some kind of blueprints?
The guitar player in my church band pretty much summed it up: "It sounds like you have an expensive head."
Very useful little box, especially when going direct, as in the controlled sound environment of theatre. The bass sound for Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT on Broadway was a (passive) P-Bass through THIS. great pedal :D i have standard version and i will buy deluxe version
15 dislikes have a sansamp bass driver d.i hahahaha
I've tried one out and as far as I can tell, no noise issues.
@ymfarhi Nope, you can use it for anything. I've used one in anything from Motown to hard rock. They're pretty versatile.
Well said, you did a great demo!
First I want to say that this is well made video with great quality audio and video. Also well designed and edited.

Awesome! And sorry for calling you Brian earlier. All those wampler demos got me confused!
Nice--but with that bass, It was screaming for some motown. A bass player myself I was waiting to hear some James Jamerson licks on the flip-top setting but I'm definetly buying this buddy.
Great demo. You made me get one! :D when it arrives i may do a review too.
@jcarterize But if you want more flexibility, try the SansAmp Para Driver DI.
Great stuff, man. You've sold me.
I'll be ordering one of these soon.
Thanks again!
Same to me. I sold ODB-3 .. and now looking for something better what doesn't steal bass. And doesn't make the noise. Let me know if you try this Tech 21 ;-) thx

I see you've also demoed the Leeds-pedal, though on guitar. I've heard that it sounds pretty good on bass as well. Any thoughts and/or experiences?
nice tone. are you running this direct to PC, or? Would sound as good running into an amp?
i have this but i think i want the boss bass overdrive more cuz it has the mix knob.
lmao i knew you were playing dazed and confused on the first note! xD
you should call your self a bass player btw, your pretty damn good, you dont over do it, and have a nice groove for the pocket
Like that tune -TRS-Records
Great pedal. I even use it on guitar.
Well, if it is not SMD, one could maybe solder a switch in there or something like that...
Hey Burgerman, great video thank you! What is the total signal chain? Thanks.
Can someone tell me the riff he's playing at 0:46? I've heard it around quit a bit, and I'm dying to know what it is.
the tech 21 bass driver. and a bass with humbucking pickups. Use a pick too.
yes its a very useful review
thank you
but i would like to hear it also with an amp not software
is it possible?
1:48 We seen nothing :p
1:48
1:56
the deluxe has two instrument inputs.. i think 6 presets fx loop and other stuff.. haha
wow, every bass distortion you could want in one awesome box. Too bad I just ordered another speaker cabinet
Please make a video of the sansamp psa with a bass! :)
I just can't decide between this one (the version with DI) and the para driver
4:02 - 4:06 My favorite tone with VT!
2:12 damn nice man, great demo, i'll stick with my battering ram tho
Sounds like the mic or speakers are clipping.
CLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
Hoi my friend! Running directly?
@Burgerman666 1 question...are the effects equally good wen playd wth fingers.this is the only question which is preventin me from buyin it..
@ymfarhi You can use it on both
was everything set flat on your power supply/preamp? I'm trying to get that deep/ping King's X sound....I see wjhat the VT will do but what amp settings?
COOL!カッコイイ!
what is it called??
just awesome.
It's a Monterey Bass, just like it says in the credits...
This pedal generates noise or it provides a clear signal? I use a ODB-3 Boss and generates noise, I want to change to pedal. Thanks.
BEEN DAZED AN CONFUUUUSEDDDDDD!!!!
sound's good
I've been thinking of replacing my EBS MultiDrive 'cause it doesn't cut through in a band situation. Would you recomend me this one as an upgrade?
Also: Are those new strings you're using? What gauge?
Could you explain in detail how you connected the VT to your PC?
@masterjj16 totally.
Hey I was just curious... How did the signal get to the video?
These questions may seem off topic, but what kind of pick ups and strings are those?
Is this good for a geddy lee sound
@KillerFridge and is it only for metal?
It adds a bit too much tube compression, but ok I guess.
is the speaker simulation on this switchable?
2:36 whats that? It brings something up but can't find out what.
what is the difference between this and the deluxe model?
Can you use this pedal with an amp or only through the sound card?
what amp ur usin? or its pluged str8 to the console or pc or smth , dont kno!
"Dazed and Confused"!! yeah!! :D
@Burgerman666 bro you should try out DR strings. Awesome for all genres of music ;) I play rock (soft-metal) and funk and it's doing my performance justice ;)
would this count as a bass distortion?
nice amp.
1:50 Fail... but finger action... rsrsrsrsrs
maybe that's because he's holding a pick with his other fingers
"Fail" pfft! So what's your logic here, picks are for guitars and not basses? I'll tell you what's even more out of place on a bass other than playing one with a pick - having more than four strings.
bass! how long can you go?!
If you stick it in front of a tube amp, you will get sagging tube compression.
can this be powered by a battery?
foocking guitarist!
What P-Bass is that,I mean wich year was it build?
Zeppelin - "Dazed & Confused"
2:30 sounds like kyuss
@jcarterize Yes.
oooooh man, that fat tube setting made that bottom E sound so creamy!
mmmmmmmmm
Some fingerstyle would have been nice.
Yeah I always thought McCartney smelled different.
1:50 that was planned right? :D:D
If that's the case then I am not impressed.
I've heard this pedal in other demos as well as live and I still say it's clipping the speakers. In many of those files I've heard it sounds exactly like an SVT. This sounds terrible imho.
