- LEGENDS OF THE OLD WEST presented by Black Barrel Media. The end of the Mexican-American War brings great change to the Texas Rangers. Heroes have been buried; the old captains move on; and new leaders emerge. The U.S. army builds two lines of forts in Texas and finally creates a star-studded regiment of cavalry to battle the Comanches on the frontier. John "RIP" Ford becomes the preeminent Ranger captain of the age as he fights Comanches in the north and Juan Cortina in the south.

Splendid👏👏👏
Great great series !
USA has a fascinating history would have been something if they were able to capture moving images 200 years before they did
Thank you lads for all these fantastic programmes
I watched the first episode while at work and have been listening to every episode since while working :3
The U.S cavalry eventually accomplish the huge task of containing, and then stopping Comanche raiding parties of any size from crossing the Rio Grand, so the new Government re-called them: ####ing stupid, stupid, stupid. Did they think that the Comanche wouldn't notice or start raiding again? Politicians ought NEVER to involve themselves in military matters, for such matters are what Field Marshalls, and Generals are for!
I live by Fort Duncan in Eagle Pass and love the history of Texas Rangers that rode and fought for Texas in this region. I have enjoyed listening about the Early History of Texas and Texans.
I wish you guys had maps so I can better picture you’re beautiful words
I came across this channel a year ago. This is actually my second time listening to the first 3 or 4 episides about The Texas Rangers, this time going in order. When I read your comment it struck me that You are right with regard to names of towns and geographical areas narrated upon. I am a native Texan, bred, born and lived here ALL of my liife. Fortunately for me, I have lived or visited, or passed thru/near most of the places described where events unfolded so I can already visualize that part of Texas in my mind. But, You are not alone. Most peole I know would be ignorant of locations and locales spoken of in these podcasts. Get a map though. Google. Almost all of the towns and settlements still exists today.
All these "Legends of the old west shows I've listened to are really good. I'm surprised the channel doesn't have more suscribers, and I don't understand why anyone would give it a thumbs down. I give it a thumbs up, and many of this channels programs are even better.
Those 4 thumbs down are probably butt hurt Meskins or Comanche! And liberals at heart to boot...
Buffalo soldiers were at FORT DAVIS GALLANT BRAVE BLACK MEN THANK YALL
Fabulous
Fort Clark is nowhere near the Pecos River, its near Brackettville,Tx.And Del Rio is in between said river and town.
Cortina was a bad ass man
It takes a bad ass Hombre to live and thrive in that part of Mexico and South Texas.
Was hoping that this was the episode you would speak on the 9th, and 10th calvery of black men known as buffalo soldiers they were in fort concho in Texas during this time and other then rangers were just as elite as the Comanche on horseback, because they were black men they were considered to be a failure, so Col.Greierson had them trained 10x better then any other soldiers
Why don't you do an episode on them then?
'' Half ass militia commanded by a weak leader''. That's right , call it like it is.
Go to the Rangers Museum in Waco and spout your comment. The world doesn't need keyboard warriors!
@@carywest9256 If you go back and listen again @ 37:35 , you will learn the statement applied to A San Antonio businessman named William Tobin . The quote had nothing to do with the rangers.
@@carywest9256 If you go back and listen @ 37:35 , you will learn that the quote referred to a San Antonio business man named William Tobin ,who had formed a militia. The statement had no reference to the duly appointed rangers. Firearm safety tip of the day : Properly identify your target before pulling the trigger.
You’d have more likes viewers with a map, picture, any visual at all! Shame great narrative but…
Dragoons sounded like our police nowadays no brains just favoritism judgement
