For those getting into making rings...don't forget to scuff up the outside of the ring core before gluing it (220 grit sandpaper works well). It'll create a much better glue bond between the blank and the ring core.
Looking at this for helpfull tips for ring turning. Instantly seeing someone do the one thing ya shouldn't. xD Don't wear gloves while working with a spinning machine part. Even the thin plastic ones can pull ya hand in... when they get caught.
Note at around 3:30 ish there is a lot of chatter from the cutting tool. When inserting the boring head pay attention to the cutting tool's cutting edge and make sure it's flat and centered on axis. It looks like it's way high on the video which effects the way it cuts and causes noise /chatter. Unlike a wood lathe tool which is forgiving these carbide cutting tools need to be very close to the axis center. Nice well explained video.
As a woodturner I would suggest you turn your parting tool "upside down" - that is the way it should be used - flat side on the rest. You can easily sharpen it by just touching the bottom (not the angled side) with a grinding wheel. Kind regards.
if yiu are careful, you can usually get two thin rings from one blank! i actually frefer to start with a long blank(4 inches or so) then drill, bore, part off then repeat also when using a saw to part off, run the lathe at a slow speed in reverse, much safer!

This is for wood turners. Not someone who wants to make a cheap ring on a whim. If you want that, get a block of wood and a knife and learn to wittle. Otherwise, know the purpose of the video you are commenting on. This guy did a great job and doesn't deserve stupid comments like this.
I want to be a complete asshole. That is the only comment I have. I stabilize my own wood don't use an insert for the ring. And I put one through the washer and dryer because I forgot it in my pocket of my jeans. I don't have all the tools he did which probably cost $500 to $1000. He must have sponsors paying him to show all that expensive tooling he used. It is much easier to turn a ring when you buy a insert that is the correct size before you start. If you can afford all the tools this guy had I guess it is not an art merely machining. Which can be an art depending on what you are making. Sorry being an asshole I will stop there. But the true art is making a wood ring with out the insert and all the expensive tooling.

Absolutely! You don't need carbide tools. Regular turning tools will work just as well. Personally, I use carbide, but I'm not aware of anything you can make with carbide that you can't make with standard turning tools (HHS), etc. And btw, you can find some pretty inexpensive carbide turning tools on Amazon. I've used them and they work great, and in most cases, just as good Easy Wood Tools. Personally, I don't know a single woodturner who uses Easy Wood Tools unless they've been sent a set for free because they're TH-camrs. Use what you like and what you can afford. You're only limited by your skill (which you can improve) and your imagination. People can make great things with crap tools and crap things with great tools. It all comes down to you.

i could not find the ring mandrell or the ring blanks. the mandrells are mentioned in a kit. i could not find the kit. can you help me out.

I use sizers and comfort cores so that I can get the size that I want for the ring itself. Hope that helps!

$5 ring? Most ring blank suppliers want at least $15 for a stainless steel blank. Not to mention the cost of the exotic wood, either.
P McRae well at Turners Warehouse the stainless rings are $3 and the blank came from the $1 bin.

Learn to solder 999 silver sheet. It's fairly easy and doable. You can make a lot of ring blanks (maybe 16 or so) from a $30 sheet of stirling.
A bit more than $5. Just saying.
