I honestly think this was God’s way of making you slow down.. we all know you’re such a busy body and it can be great but it was totally effecting your health! The only way that you were going to slow down is if you were forced to. It sucks that it happened this way, but you are so strong and you’re going to be even stronger because of this! 💛 much love!
Edit: wow totally didn’t expect this to get that many likes! 🤩 glad we can all be here to support Gretchen in this time.

I tore my ACL skiing, and its really hard, but the truth is it makes everything more meaningful. The first time I backpacked and the first time I skied after I tore my ACL were so much better and so much more meaningful. You can come back from this and be stronger for it. Take your time and find the best PT for you. You got this!

I know exactly how you feel! I tore both of my ACLs (not at the same time!!) playing soccer in high school. It is a long road to recovery, but it WILL be okay! Definitely take physical therapy seriously, it makes SUCH a difference. You definitely are much more appreciative of your legs once everything is over with.

Sometimes it takes something like an injury to make us realize we need to slow down! Something similar happened to me a few years ago - I broke my right foot in two places because I fell down the stairs and it forced me to sloooow down. I couldn’t walk or drive and was forced to take a medical leave from school. I had been super active and worked two jobs and went to school full time so it was a huge adjustment for me, but I looked at it as a small blessing in disguise because I suddenly had free time to catch up on sleep and recharge myself I’m so many ways. 😊 Wishing you a speedy recovery, Gretchen!

Gretchen, I tore mine in 2015 and again in 2018. I’ve had two surgeries on the same knee. This recovery isn’t the easiest but keep your head up, each day you get stronger and you’ll learn to appreciate your body and everything it does so much more. You got this!

I’ve torn both of mine. I immediately got surgery on the first and waited a couple years to get surgery for my second. Listen to your gut on what to do. Surgery is tough but it might be worth it in the long run! Just do your physical therapy and you’ll come out stronger!!! ❤️❤️ wishing you the best recovery.

Glad you got diagnosed correctly, I walked on mine for a year because they thought I just strained mine. Then an MRI showed it was torn and had to have reconstructive surgery with a 12" scar up the back of my leg. Plus I was 58 at the time. The year made it so much more worse than if they could have fixed it immediately. Praying for a quick recovery for you.

Hey Gretchen! I tore mine 3 years ago and ended up never getting surgery for it because doing so would have probably ended my skating career. 6 months later I was fine and started skating again. Now I’m doing better than ever and it doesn’t hurt me at all! Physio, working out and patience are what helped me! Stay strong and positive and you’ll be able to be active again in no time! :) XX

I’ve torn my ACL and got the surgery about two months ago and let me tell you, the best thing possible to do is do the physical therapy and DO NOT rush it. Yes, it takes time but if you start running, jumping, etc. before your doctor says it will be an even longer recovery. I wish the best of luck throughout it and hope you become stronger each and every day.😊

I just found you on TH-cam and your story is so encouraging. I'm going through my 2nd ACL tear and I am only 15. The first time I tore everything in my knee except my PCL. I am 2 weeks out of surgery on my 2nd and doing so much better. It has definitely changed my life since I play softball. The brace is gonna be the death of me. I know I'm not the only one going through this but it helps to hear someone's elses story. Love your encouraging story ❤

It's a scary thing, but it makes you so much stronger. I tore mine in gymnastics when I was 17 (23now) and it completely changed everything for me. Helped me pick a better college, get rid of fake friends, leave the toxic atmosphere in gymnastics...the last one because I wanted to. I did fully recover and came back for 1 competition because I didn't want to leave on a bad note after almost 13 years, but it wasn't the same anymore mentally. In my recovery I had to start going to the gym 5 months post op to get strong enough so that my knee could deal with all the landings in gymnastics and it was the first time in a long time I actually enjoyed training and wasn't pressured or basically bullied (sadly normal in gymnastics). I don't usually comment but I just wanted to say that it does happen for a reason and most of the time you end up a better and stronger person after that. Now I have a bright future in engineering which I could have never finished had I stayed in gymnastics, new and true friends,a boyfriend that loves me for me and I actually enjoy training in the gym. All because I had to go through a difficult recovery at the worst time,or so I thought back then.

I’ve torn my ACL on one knee 2 times and have had 5 total surgeries on the same knee with multiple involving reconstruction and graphing so when I say you can get through this I know what I’m talking about. Recovering from surgery is hard but so worth it. You will end up coming out of this both physically and mentally stronger because of it. There will be many down days when it feels too tough to handle but it will all work itself out. You got this Gretchen!

I tore my acl back in October along with my mcl and meniscus. I got surgery in November and I’m still recovering. It’s a very long & hard road to recovery, but you’ll definitely get through it! There will be hard times, but seeing yourself recovering and seeing progress is the best thing ever! The next few months might be hard, but eventually you’ll be fine and back to your normal self. Stay strong, you got this! Also a big tip is that physical therapy is so important! Make sure you go to a physical therapist who will push you to get your strength back! I wish you all the best!

Wishing you a speedy recovery! When I was 16 I got hit by a pick up truck while on a run and broke some ribs and had a bunch of internal injuries, I was bedridden for at least a month. One thing I know for sure is that you learn a lot about yourself by how you handle something like this. It forces you to slow down and gives you more time to think about life. It also shows you who your true friends are because they are the ones who stick by you through the good times and the bad. The ones who only want to be around when you’re doing fun things aren’t the real friends. I went on to train for some half marathons and even did my first full marathon last year, and I think honestly it was the accident that pushed me to do those things. Also When I finally got back into running, I was so out of shape and slow. It was frustrating. But the doctors had told me that my full recovery was possible and much quicker because I was young and in shape. So while I lost a lot of my endurance and muscle tone, it was also that that made recovery faster. I’m sure you will have that experience too since you are young and in shape. It’s easy to feel doomed by an injury especially when you’re someone who loves exercise so much, but you just have to try and keep the perspective and remind yourself that a full recovery is possible. In the meantime, focus your energy on healing, school, friends, and family. (plus you don’t have to give up everything you like doing walking around Boston - you can online shop while resting haha).

Hey Gretchen! I’m not one to normally comment on your videos, although I watch every single one, I felt like this video really hit home for me. I live at the very bottom of Maine and not many people have youtube channels around me, so I’ve always looked up to you! I tore my ACL and LCL May of 2018 playing softball my freshman year of high school. Like you said, to me, it was a complete shock and I was so surprised when my orthopedic doctor told me the news. I had always heard the horror stories of people tearing their ACL’s and the pain they were in immediately after. I wasn’t like that and neither were you. I’m glad to hear you’re ready to take on the journey ahead and it makes me happy to see how strong you are going into surgery. Tearing my acl I would say was 80% physical and 20% mental and It’s great to see you in the right mindset! Although the recovery is long and there will be some set backs, it’s worth it to get back 100% to what you love. Today, I went snowboarding for the first time this year, 8 months after my surgery, and tomorrow, I get my first brace to allow me to play softball again! It’s been a long recovery but in the end it made me stronger in so many ways! I know I’m only 15 and you’re getting multiple comments about other acl stories, but feel free to ask any questions you want or talk to me for any advice. Thank you so much for doing what you do, I look forward to every video you post. -Sending love from Maine 💗

Just wanted to join the club of having a torn left ACL! But on a serious note, please know that a majority of this recovery is mental, and you seem to be in a good head space right now. It's going to be hard to trust your knee again, but you will! The recovery time is long, and the physical therapy can be a challenge, but you can do it! Like I mentioned, keep up the positive spirits and good attitude. From what I can tell, you have a very good head on your shoulders and that will get you a very long way. Love you!

I tore my ACL, meniscus, and MCL 4 years ago playing soccer (couldn't put pressure on my leg for 3 months after surgery) and truly the recovery process FLEW by! Think of PT as your temporary fill in for soul cycle! You're positive and you got this! XX you'll be back in no time

I tore my ACL and meniscus skiing almost a year ago! I had surgery over the summer and SoulCycle was a great addition to my physical therapy. I would just go in the back row and do the class sitting (still hard if you make it) I totally get you I could never give Soul up! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

anyone looking to ski and afraid it’s the greatest joy in my life and i highly recommend it, but be safe! warm up your legs first, of course bad injuries happen to warmed up athletes anyway but it does help! also, and here’s the big one, but adjust the DIN setting to a lower number. i’m a racer and have a very high did (12+) but beginners should have it very low like 2-5 depending on height/weight. this makes the ski pop off easier which is what causes so many of the ACL injuries.

Aww Gretchen I'm so happy that you're being optimistic about this whole situation. Because you mentally believe you'll be fine, your body will manifest that belief physically and you will have a speedy recovery. I know you have lots of loving people around you but just know that your subscribers love you just as much and that our blessings are always with you. You know there's light at the end of the tunnel so promise yourself to wait for it patiently. Setbacks are a part of life and they make you cherish the little things even more. Take care sweetie, I hope (and know) that you get well soon! As for your videos, I would love watching you recover just as much as I love watching you go on adventures.

I tore mine playing soccer and it ended up costing me my full ride. However, whenever I look back I learned soo many things about myself and it helped me realize what I truly wanted to get a degree in (PT) and kind of kicked me into a totally new aspect of life I never would have known if I hadn't gone through it! It is a very hard surgery to recover from mentally and physically but like you said.. A year from now it'll be old news.. These next few months going through rehab are just a blip on the big picture of life! I'll be praying for you!

I just had my acl surgery six weeks ago! I had a hard time having my career being stripped away from me being a soccer player in college. It sucks recovering I am barely just now able to squat and do everyday things that were so normal to me two months ago. It is going to take a lot of time and a lot of physical therapy, which sucks but it is being done for a reason. You will get through this girl!!!!!!

You’re not only going to help and support your subscribers who are/will be going through this, but you’re truly an inspiration to people like me who can tend to be negative about a lot of things in life and you show us how to look at the positives in tough situations that are thrown at us. We love you and hope you have a fast recovery! ❤️

Hi so this may seem unrelated, but I just wanted to say thank you for making this video because weirdly enough it’s exactly what I need to see right now. A few weeks ago I started recovery for an eating disorder I’ve been dealing with for awhile, and I’m not allowed to workout at all which has been so hard for me to accept. Especially with all my friends talking about going to the gym every day, it’s been really really tough to know that I can’t. Just wanted to say thanks for making me feel less alone and showing me I should have a positive outlook on the situation :) we’ll be back and better than ever before we know it (hopefully lol)❤️ feel better love!!
