I am OBSESSED with Amaryllis! In just two seasons, I now have around 100 different varieties, if the nurseries have sent the correctly labeled (and purchased) bulbs. The first to bloom for me was the Elvas. So gorgeous! I'm going to stagger my latest shipment. So excited to see what they look like when they bloom!
Okay, well you convinced me to go buy bulbs yesterday in the snow. Spent about an hour at the garden place looking at the same small collection of pots. They sit now on the bench built over the radiator. Excited at what is to come!
Even though I have been planting amaryllis bulbs since the dawn of time, I still learned something new today. 1. Never knew that fungi were called "turkey tails" 2. re-hydrate the moss 3. Heat Mat!!! Of course. Have 10 started and will put my heat mats underneath. We also, sadly had to cut down 4 mature Ash trees, so we have lots of 'turkey tails'. Thanks Erin.
@@beckyboopz1 unfortunately here in NJ our Ash trees have been infested with Emerald Ash Borer, a type of beetle that is killing all of our Ash trees. Ours died, and in our town the DPW is cutting them all down (but replacing them with new trees).
Nice job on the Thanksgiving pot......anyone would be lucky to receive this lovely creation. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all you love especially Darwin.
Dang that's pretty! Can't wait to see the new pots in your kitchen area. I bought a Razzle Dazzle already potted up and put it into a festive vase. Something to look forward to :)
I love your reminder to not over water. I have for the last 15 years kept my bulbs and keep them in the pot until September then let them rest in a box on the closet floor. I replant before Thanksgiving and wala they begin again. Maybe some do not rebloom on time or have as many blooms but the mid-summer bloom in the garden is a treat too.
I bought an amaryllis about 20 years ago. We here in zone 8a NC can plant these in ground. I still have some of the descendants of that first amaryllis. These, as you said are amazing gifts. 😊
I grow a bunch of amaryllis every year and Magical Touch is one of my favorites. It is stunning! This year I ordered three and put them in a big pot together. I also ordered Wild Amazon from Longfield Gardens. Can’t wait to see it in bloom.
I love the Wakefield pots and all of the types of amaryllis you planted. The three bulb planter looks amazing with the foraged natural elements. Those are rose hips. I have wild roses around my property and they produce small clusters. Can't wait for the update!
Exotic Star truly is beautiful. I got my first by accident and had a very hard time with an ID because of the unique color and patterns. My favorite one of all.
Hey Erin, I put you on pause and placed an amaryllis order with Longfield! lol 😝 I have a number of them, and now I have more! Love those pots as well ♥️
Hello, I’ve really enjoyed your videos. Thank you for sharing your garden with us. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season full of joy health and prosperity
Beautiful! Foraging from your own yard is so fun. I just bought my first ever Amaryllis yesterday, this video is perfect timing to guide me. Thank you so much 😊
Erin I put you on pause ……..to look for some of those beautiful Wakefield Handmade pots. Not available right now but will keep looking! 💕 Lots of great amaryllis planting ideas! Thanks.
Oh my. I LOVE that 3 bulb scape you created. It's amazing. I think the papyrus looked cool, too. I'd love to see more options. I'm absolutely inspired.
Perfect timing! (Potting up amaryllis was on today’s to-do list, along with planting the last of my spring blooming bulbs which arrived yesterday from Longfield.) And, after I saw your video, I decided to pull the trigger on getting green amaryllis from Longfield today! I think my garden motto should be “whoops I did it again!”
Learned so much: Turkey tails, using them in pots for an organic look, wetting moss down first before placing. Hope to see what you do with the bulbs after they bloom. I have been putting them in the ground in spring in a protected somewhat shady spot. Dig up and put in shady spot for a month in fall, now they are potted up. Hope they bloom! BTW you look great!
Thank you Erin! You just helped me lighten my purse a little. 😂 I went straight to Longwood site and ordered 3, got one free! Not cheap but sure to be better than the $8 grocery store amaryllis I planted this year. I have the perfect Wakefield pot to do a 3 some. I love your idea!
Please show the transplanting process when your new pots come in! I put one in an ugly pot because that was what was available. If yours succeed, I’ll try it too!
Wow, Erin - I haven’t seen you in several weeks and all of a sudden you are so thin!!! I wish gardening did that for me! Hahaha. Funny thing about amaryllis- I had some planted in a bucket with no holes for several years and had to empty rain water out of them regularly. They bloomed spectacularly every year. I then planted them up in a formal pot and had to wait a couple years for blooms. They do ok now, but not as good as when they were in the bucket. Also, I got some on clearance last winter and can’t wait to see what they do this year. Didn’t know that we should water sparingly and that they don’t need a lot of room to grow. Thanks!!
Love the Amazone Amaryllis💖 I actually have 10 different amaryllis bulb from years of collecting. I bring them out after the new year and then they are here for Valentine's Day and theu Easter...so fun🌱✨
Beautiful choices! I had Magical Touch last year and its blooms were huge! I think I am going to go with 3 double whites this year, I should probably get at that! I keep mine but I never have the heart to shove them in the dark early enough, so they become my late winter color and I buy new ones for Christmas time blooms.
Can we be friends? Hahaha. Love this. I did give amaryllis as gifts to a few people one year, but now the bulbs seem so much more expensive than I remember paying! I must’ve found a good deal that year!
Thank you for the tutorial. One question - what do you do to keep the amaryllis from toppling over when they bloom? I've had some where the stem breaks because it's supporting 5 big blossoms. The first time I grew amaryllis it came in a kit with a small plastic pot. The whole pot toppled over once it bloomed.
Thanks for the great tutorial on planting amaryllis bulbs. Does the bulb pot you planted the 3 bulbs in have a drainage hole or is it not required? Thx
After my pot of three amaryllis bloomed I cut off the flowers and let the leaves grow. This spring I set it on my covered deck with indirect light and the leaves continued to grow. I'm in Zone 4 WI. They are tough, seldom watered it, and I thought I would let it take a good frost. I just brought it indoors yesterday, but finally clipped the leaves back as they were still green! It is now in my dark basement still in the same pot and I'll check on it once in awhile. When it wakes up again I'll bring it to the light. The flower that keeps on giving. Do the dogwood branches act as a flower support? Thanks for the great ideas!!!
@@maryfromflorida1894 yes all of the pots have drainage, which I think is very important. If you are a very skilled and careful waterer you could probably get away without drainage holes but it wouldn’t be my recommendation.

The sound of the lake lapping the shore in the background is like a lullaby. Very peaceful when you were working on the three bulb pot.
Isn't that nice? My dream for retirement is to live on or near a lake. Erin gets the best of lakes. In fact the best Great Lake! I miss my Wisconsin!
I love your little woodland amaryllis pot , you did a great job foraging .
You can transplant. I grow mine in regular pots, “ugly pots.” Once they send up a stem and get buds, I move them to pretty pots. It works!

The decorated pot is beautiful! I love how you incorporated natural elements! Love your videos - Have a joyous holiday season!!
Hazelnuts in the shell are pretty around base of the bulb too.😊
