Thanks for this great video. I got a little bit confused along the line.
Are you saying using thunderbolt connection has a limitation on bandwidth?
Can I use a connector that has an M.2 to PCIe cable instead? Will this reduce bandwidth difference?
If I plan to use the external GPU for just 3D rendering and No gaming at all. Do I really need to worry about this bandwidth issue of the thunderbolt connection?

if you watched entire video without skipping this question should not be coming from 2012 youtube profile. I said if you have internal GPU you have to connect thunderbolt before starting your laptop like installing GPU to a PC from PCI express. if you try plug in an out during using it might not see so you have to restart that's all. I speacially mentioned near end. it is ideal for laptops without GPU but good cpu. ( You did not watched it do you ? )

There was a comparison of performance losses for eGPU (Thunderbiolt or Oculink) vs proper GPU (desktop):
    - Thunderbolt is more unstable (from game to game, 3d task to task, disabling rebar, etc.) and loses you an average 30-60% performance of the card (be it 2080 or 4090)
    - Oculink is quite rare (need a special m.2 slot extension, e.g. instead of your WiFi card) but offers much more stable results and roughly 10-20% performance loss.
But still, this whole setup and juggling with settings will actually provide you with performance boost for much less money, than buying a $3k gaming laptop with worse performing mobile chip. The price of convenience, though...

    Oculink has entered the chat...
Don't use Thunderbolt use Oculink, it can handle 4090 no problem.

Oculink is not popular and devices are more expensive and custom. I think USB 4 and upcoming thunderbolt will be much more compatible😎👍

if you can add vga to a laptop than go right ahead without an adapter. Expensive definition depends on your expectation some people expects Porsche quality and performance for vw golf price and that is called dream not a real life
