Self-Care Made Simple

- Prioritizing self-care isn’t selfish and doesn’t require a complete overhaul of your life. You can engage in self-care by doing tiny things that can have a big impact on every aspect of your well-being-spiritual, social, physical, and intellectual.

It never occurred to me that Jesus slept through that storm because he felt *exhausted*. I thought the point of that was just to highlight how the forces of nature are no big deal to him. Thanks for the new insight!
This video nor the New Testament give the reason "exhausted".
@@travismarin2595 2:29-3:03 I’m not sure why they’d bring up the Savior’s mortal ministry & human exhaustion if it didn’t play some part in His fatigue. Guessing it’s not the only reason Jesus was sound asleep on the ship, but I found what they brought up really insightful as well, & imagine exhaustion was one of the reasons
@@IPureHeart "They" paraphrased Elder Holland's talk who said that with no end quote so what I said is still true. Maybe what you are guessing at is true and maybe it isn't. It was also asked in the form of a question, and not an answer as Will has put it. I was also referring to Jesus' event on the boat, not tthhee ssaaavvviiiooorrr'sss mooorrrtaaaallll mmmiiinnniisssttrrryyy.
There is no evidence that Jesus was exausted, rather it was for a test of his followers faith.
Everyone needs to just be open to possibilities. We don't know. I can't believe the Bible bashing and correcting from Christians. Getting all the details exactly right isn't what being a disciple is about. Love, kindness, service. Stop correcting people. This video made it sound like Jesus was exhausted, so it IS A NEW INSIGHT. Insight means something between the lines of the facts. Revelation is insight into truth about scripture stories and how we can like it to ourselves. The point is Jesus took time to rest and care for himself.
So timely for me! After sooo many months, heck, years, trying to make this happen, I actually was told in a priesthood blessing that it was "crucial" for me and for my family that I really do take care of myself. 😅 And I think I can finally see clearly enough not just why but, most importantly, how.
I wish you the best of luck with your family and your own state of being!
TRUE! If your blessing said CRUCIAL, then you probably need to think about what it would be like for those around you if you DIDN'T care for yourself: A) You probably wouldn't be around anymore to help them. B) They would learn the SAME self destructive habits as you had lived.
Not trying to judge, but seriously trying to help🫂 You sound like a NEAT person 👍🏻
Heavenly Father loves you 💗 so you can love yourself too 💗
I feel the same way. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your comment!
"It doesn't make you a bad mom if you take a nap." Amen to that!
This is the first "take time for self care" promotion that's actually clear about how to do that sustainably and holistically.
This is probably the most relevant and helpful video that I have ever seen in my entire life. I am not a Mormon or overly religious... This is just right. Thank you!
By small and simple things are great things brought to pass!
In a blessing I was told that life isn’t only about serving but also learning to be served. I used to be awful at that. God has humbled me through health challenges that require me to rely on others. What if asking for help isn’t being a burden but rather sharing a gift and allowing God to show you His love through the hands of His children.
There are also seasons in life when we can do more and others when we can't. We don't need to be discouraged when something shows up that blocks our good desires to always be going and helping. We will usually get back to ourselves in a while. In the meantime, slow down and invite Christ to be with you and give you his peace and strength. ❤️
I love that this is basically Positive Psychology but let’s not take Christ out of it. Turning to him in every thought shouldn’t be a chore on our list but a byproduct of a reaction. I got so caught up in self care that I just needed to remember to forget myself… except for my health needs. And to pray morning, noon, and night.
I skipped going to church after a ward split so I could have a day of rest for my mental health for a time while doing college, working, dealing g with seasonal affective disorder, and raising two kids. I'm so greatful that no one judged me while my husband took the kids to church. Now I have less anxiety and stress I feel like I can actively pay attention at church.
Church is just a tool for worship, you can worship God anywhere. Even God rested on the 7th day 😊.
Love thy neighbor as thyself - love yourself and treat yourself with as much care and kindness as you treat your neighbor.
It can be challenging to show love and respect for ourselves at times, but we should take time to love everyone with a higher quality of love, including ourselves. We are sons and daughters of God, who are so important, and loved by him!
This video was a gift from God, I was feeling guilty for spending so much to buy myself 5 artificial plants and a couple of other small decor items for my cubicle, but it’s literally the first time I’ve bought myself something in almost a year - and I’ve spent hundreds of dollars helping so many other people - this is a reminder that it’s okay to do nice things for oneself once in awhile, and not to feel guilty for doing so :) I love Jesus Christ so much. Thank you Heavenly Father ♥️
☺️
Yes, it is ok, i love to buy flowers for me a
It’s the children and youth program but for adults. I love it 😍
Such a good reminder- if we don't prioritize our own self-care, we can become too weak to lift the burdens we carry. Now to get everyone on board to back off and give us support to do so!
Great advice! Love the simplicity and the reminder that overwhelming guilt and shame are not part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Amen. Yes. Agreed
True
Guilt and shame have no part at all in the gospel
Don't let pride make you think you are capable of shouldering all burdens.
We as saints will feel better if we prioritize the health of our bodies a little more than we do. I see so many of my loved one’s lives ravaged by habits of poor eating and very little exercise. We should help the saints take good care of themselves and find joy in being healthy and happy. :))))
It's the Emotional Resilience (self-reliance class) all in one video 💓💕💕!!
The class manual is on the Church website if anyone is interested. The class focuses on faith in Jesus Christ as the foundation for our resilience.
These videos are only necessary because the church demands so much of your time. Best self care advice that I can give is leave this cult.
stop
I absolutely needed this, I’m the unbalanced person! I now have a high level goal for the week
I struggle significantly w/major depression & anxiety, & fell into another big depressive episode recently & been really neglecting myself. The other day I had the thought “How do I develop love for myself?” & thought about service: service helps develop love for others, so would self-service help me develop love for myself? I nearly dismissed that since I imagined self-service being selfish, but 0:24 reassured me that it’s Self-Care 😊 & that serving is showing care & love!
I also find it lovely that Self-Care will bring about lasting joy (3:17), & that it’s essentially an eternal principle leading to an exalted eternal fullness of joy someday!! ☀️
Thank you for sharing!
Good stuff!✝️❤🙏
Keeping my life simple, and finding satisfaction in little moments to recharge, has been a huge help. I don’t feel cheated when I am unable to travel or take extended vacations like other people. It also keeps me from becoming jealous or coveting the more extravagant things others engage in.
AMEN. Exactly. Me too. Wow.
All glory to God.. The father, the son n the holy Spirit through the roots of king David... They r the one to be glorious n lifted up now... Let's spread the Gospel
Love this 🥰 Moderation in all things as the scriptures say.
I pray everyone In the world even the poor people have a good life and take care of their self and remember Jesus Christ is coming
AMEN 🕊💞💖💗
What can be said about this- other than a simple truth, often has the strongest of impacts.
This is a constant struggle for us moms with small children in the church. I often feel exhausted after giving all of my time and effort in serving all my life that it left me depleted. I also feel resentment that I am constantly expected to give and give, it caused me to have temper problems and anxiety and I feel that the Lord might be disappointed in me for taking time to care for myself. This video just clarified to me that even if God expected so many things from us, we are also expected to care for our own needs, to become better people and better disciples.
This is such a great video! I love the little and simple ideas given here for taking care of myself and not feeling I’m being selfish in the process. 👍
I'm also learning that as my health issues worsen, I'm less able to jump out of my car and help give someone who's broke down a push, or burn the candle at both ends. It's really difficult/depressing to lose abilities, but self care becomes even MORE important 🙏🏼💗
I can relate to this wholeheartedly! I’ve learned to focus on what I can do and realize it’s ok if don’t serve the same way as most. 💜Heavenly Father has shown me other creative ways to help. 💚
@@MinPinSteve thank you! 😊
Yes
This video makes me so happy! To take care of ourselves makes life worth living! I'll also have to show this to my husband who is always caring for others. Beautiful video. 💝
So the children and youth program is to improve our well-being! This makes so much sense. I think this will help me have better direction choosing goals for myself in the future.
I definitely needed this! 💕
I’m a mom and I nap on the weekends. My husband is amazing and understands my personal needs. It helps me be refreshed and feel supported! I don’t always need them but knowing I can if I need one feels great!
Thank you. 🌼
Thank you for making a video on this. So many people need to know this is okay.
joyous chorus
The thing I love so much about this is that it's acknowledging that even church activities can take their toll on some people. We're often made to feel bad if that's the case.
Seeing this video has just made my day better, I always feel super guilty and even shameful whenever I try and set aside time to do things that I want to do or need to do regularly, and because of that I never really enjoy my time. But this was just a nice reminder that I’m just as important as everyone else in my life.
I feel so much better when I work out every day. Much more in control of life and my satisfaction with myself increases drastically
In my experience, properly finding balance and prioritizing the right things at the right time requires divine help & the grace of God.
"The Holy Ghost... will show unto you all things what ye should do." 2 Nephi 32:5.
We need to try to live worthy to hear and follow the small simple whisperings of the spirit, and repent sincerely when we make mistakes so we can humbly return to the Lord and get our lives back on track.
God LOVES us ❤️, and when our lives are aligned with his will, we will feel his love too, and self care will be easier for us to find and choose.
Also, beware choosing to engage in things that are idol/idle worship that distract and take us away from God. Let the spirit be your guide. 🙏❤️
Great video! I think some people are afraid because they don’t want to seem selfish or uncaring, but most of those people are the most selfless and caring people I know. They need a break and no one would want to make them feel bad for taking it :)
I got exactly what I was looking for thank you so much for this because I have struggled with self-care forever
I have a pretty demanding job right now so watching this video made me feel better when I feel any anxiety or stress. By taking care of myself I can help others.
Indeed. Thank you for tuning in!
Simplicity. Love it. I needed this! Thank you for putting this out there,
Great advice! Regardless of religion or demographic!
I love this so much! Jesus doesn't want us to be constantly stressed! He wants us at our best so we can have joy and bring other people joy! I've been trying to learn this lesson myself for a few years and I can say I'm much happier when I prioritize self care😊
Self-care can start in the morning….then you are prepared for the rest of the day….then do it last thing at night. Even other things during the day can contribute. And have fun doing them!! That worked for me!!
I think people should work out every day. Everyone will be a lot healthier and happier if they do that :)
If your cup is empty, you can't fill up other cups. So fill yours up first, then help others secondly.
I love this! Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
How grateful I am for inspired advices like this one. Praise to the Lord the Almighty for orchestrating all perfectly.
Such a great message. ❤️
I need to take better care of myself too. I was a caregiver for my husband and it was no easy job. I totally agree with the video for myself to take better care of me. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video!
I hope you're doing well 🫂💖
I really needed to hear this today!!!!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for this video and message.
Answered prayer. ✨
100% spot on!
Love this video!!!
Yep. Time to go out and smell the roses!
❤ wow so true thank you for sharing this message 😊
I have really been feeling the need for self-care the past two years I have worked too much 12 hours a day Monday through Saturday it can really wear you to your core and you can develop mental illness and physical health problems by working too much
I love this video very much.❤️
This movie in scripture form is: men are that they might have joy (2 Nephi). Joy comes from doing things that bring joy to us and others. If what we are doing doesn’t bring joy, then we do something else to bring the spark of joy back into life so the mundane becomes joyful and not a strain.
Well said!
Very encouraging and enlightening
This was well thought out and done wonderfully.
I love this series and hope that you'll keep doing more of them!!
Really needed this! Love the video and how simple it is!
Thank you for your comment!
@@churchofjesuschrist I don't know who is in control of the "The church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints" account, but you've only replied to 1 comment from video and I'm curious what the people on charge of that account thinks of my comment 🤔.
@@danmackenzie6153 Time is precious and common sense tells us if no one responds they probably agree and you also have only 8 thumbs up on your comment. These church leaders are popular so I wouldn't expect personal attention from them. Maybe they eventually will let you know what they think of your comment.
Very nice we must practice self care
This is great and simple advice! Thanks
Wonderful message 💛😁 thank you!
Two BYU-I students ripping at this but appreciate it very much. Vindication was felt. And a great chat was inssued.
Tell anyone who had a problem with it to wait 30-40 years until they're in menopause with arthritis and an OVERLOAD of stress from kids & grandkids..
THEN we'll see their opinion😏💖
It is not harmful to extrapolate that the Savior may have been exhausted. He certainly had a reason to be. But the circumstances it seems were created by the Savior, also the God of nature, to assist the twelve in developing their faith. And our faith
Thank you. I needed that.🤗❤️
THank you for sharing this video. A lot has been going on my side and those small and simple steps are really helpful fo self care.
Needed this 🙏🏽 -an overworked mom
I just loved it! 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺💗❤️
Great advice ❤
Love this!
I love this video! I needed this so much!
This is fantastic!
Oh my gosh. This is so refreshing
I really appreciated this❤
Thank you for amazing video
🙏😇👍
I just ate an ice cream for my birthday! I enjoyed it.
Thank you so much😊I learned a lot about taking care of myself!
LOVE THIS!! Really great ideas!
Love it!
Amen!
Was just talking with someone about this. The number one group of people seeking help from psychotherapy is mothers of young children. They spend so much of themselves caring for others. Unfortunately, as was stated in the video, taking time for yourself is often considered selfish… these woman will actually be surprised when they realize there is nothing wrong with pursuing their own interests. Your children will learn a lot if they understand that sometimes mommy needs to take time to take care of herself.
They'll learn self worth and boundaries which are IMPORTANT in avoiding codependency relationships 👍🏻
Great video. I appreciated the humor in it.
Thanks!
Great lesson thank you
I love this! So many of us need to hear this. Why is doing more the goal for many of us? Thank you for this video.
Just when I start to realize how out of order my life is
I am going to try this! I'm forever tired. Tried too many ideas.🤩💯
better have confirmation in the Spirit that the self care is ok. No one can survive without it.
Maybe it wasn't about exhaustion at all. Maybe He was down there wide awake, choosing to rest, simply not worried about it, and letting the world rage around Him as it tends to. If you have all power over everything it's not a stretch to not worry sp much about it. But being full of compassion as He tends to be, and understanding of us not having all power, and asking us where the doubts come from, if we ask Him, in faith, He helps us. I don't doubt He ever worked to exhaustion, Im sure he did often. But I don't think that's what this one is about. Adrenaline and cortisol are plenty to push past tired under fears of sinking. He wasn't worried about it, and could afford to rest. He turned off the phone on vacation, and let the work storm rage. As it will. And when it became expedient, then He calmed it at His command. He isn't afraid of a raging storm. I love that about Him.
What a great little recipe for self care! So many of us are overwhelmed with the tasks of everyday life and DO get lost in a heap of stinky stuff. Jesus Christ gave us a choice and I love that sooo much! By choosing Him and living His Gospel Truth, it's pretty difficult to get yourself into too much turmoil, right? It isn't easy, but I'm so grateful that finally it lit me up like the 4th of July and Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life. Putting Him first, surrender to the nonsense and throw all the stinky stuff in the 🗑 garbage, delete it and insert small positive mindset tools that will help you stay out of the gutters of the mind. All you have to do is desire a good life. Open the Book of Mormon and begin to read. The Missionaries will ask at a certain point of the lessons, whether you believe in Joseph Smith's visions? YES, I replied. Wholeheartedly, every fiber of my being was ignited into an enlightening that continues to light up along the way....as long as I keep myself focused on whose on first. Someday's are better than others, but the bottom line is, I've been about as low as I desire and again, I made a choice and gratitude continues to bless me. My thoughts and prayers are with all of us today as we trudge the daily drudge...HALT!!! I Am A Child of God and I choose to walk in the light He shines for all to see, so we can be free of the bondages of sin. Ty/Amen 🙏 ❤☀️
Wow ❤️❤️❤️
