Casey. One of your finest interviews! You made it about him , you let him talk, and had really inciteful questions! Man. Stephen Nelson is awesome. So humble n honest. As my brother would say: FAN-DAM-TASTIC !!
I'll just add my kudos to the many already mentioned. Loved your thoughtful questions - you could tell you made him comfortable to talk openly and candidly about all the things we want to hear. Well done, sir!
Thank you Christopher, I cut my teeth on radio and always found the TV side to be boring because there is substantially less picture painting. I was curious how someone in his position handles the differences/nuances between the two.
Fantastic interview. Tons of insight and interesting layers about personal and professional experiences. It was very cool that Stephen acknowledged your work and coverage of Dodgers prospects. The description of his research preparation, how he maintains "living documents" on players and teams and how he uses it, shows that Nelson was not simply paying you an insincere compliment. Your work at Dodgers Daily is a real and valuable resource. I'm sure it was awesome to hear that from him but also nice for your viewers and others who participate in the DD community. ESPN 30 for 30 Podcasts did an episode on Hideo Nomo titled "The Loophole" about the insane story behind Hideo Nomo's journey to MLB. It is not widely appreciated how iconoclastic some of these Japanese born players have to be to break new ground coming from a culture where the "nail that sticks up, gets hammered down". It started with Nomo, it was carried forward by Ohtani and his extreme belief in his own two-way ability, and now by Rōki Sasaki who wagers and possibly sacrifices untold millions to play in MLB early. Congratulations on the interview, such a solid piece of work. Hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas.
Hey Thanks, Jay, I appreciate the comments. Yeah, Stephen is a really cool dude, and it was cool to hear that he uses the site from time to time when needed. Beyond that, the respect he showed was the coolest part of it for me. To hear that someone like him show respect towards you or your work makes this thing really feel like it's headed in the right direction.
😅Words fail me in describing what a great interview this was, perfect questions and thoughtful answers by Steven. I miss Vinny so much! But the current broadcast team for the Dodgers is as good as it gets. Orel and Rick add so much meat to the bone, Joe and Steven just set a high bar. Steven is so young in this, it’s going to be fun watching and listening to him grow. Casey you just ask the perfect questions, you are a teacher and a coach but it’s obvious you do the Homework too. Steven opened the door for future interviews I hope you walk through it sometime in the future. Merry Christmas and God Bless.
I had not heard Nelson's story about the Dodgers Front Office seeing Tommy Edman as a trade target early in the season. Really interesting on many levels. It's very cool that Nelson has a connection to Michael Conforto from the standpoint of college baseball at Oregon State (the other OSU!). Compelling comments about the chatter in NY media circles on Conforto vs. Judge. It will be interesting to see Conforto as a high end wild card for the Dodgers plans.
I'm interested to see how that works too. This deal is absolutely in the Dodgers wheel house being 1 year, so they can DFA and eat the money if needed, or just get through the year in the worst case scenario. But, best case scenario has a High Ceiling. So, High floor/no risk and very high ceiling. The only real risk or cost to these types of moves is in opportunity for players that could be cornerstones for many years to come and not just 1 single year.

Excellent interview! I loved the discussion about the differences between broadcasting television and radio.
