Yep Cold Chisel didn’t need to do Elvis’ Hound Dog! They had the genius that is Don Walker write this number (spelled Houndog) which appeared on their fourth album, Circus Animals, in 1982.
Just found your channel and I’m LOVING watching your reactions to some of our classic Aussie music. John and Jimmy are such top notch performers, I grew up with their music and it boggles my mind that they’re not more widely known around the world……but it’s so AWESOME to see someone who clearly knows their stuff when it comes to singing appreciate these incredibly talented performers so much ❤️
Have you ever listened to an 80’s Aussie band called Men at Work? There’s a couple of songs it would be awesome to see you react to. Land Down Under and Who Can it Be Now. Really funny film clips and Colin Hay has an amazingly high voice.

It was great to see you react positively to a great band and a great song that makes me proud to be Australian. Cold Chisel is a band brothered by tough, from the streets experiences. The fine, honest songwriting about everyday Australian life became anthemic to a generation of Australians. I was lucky enough to be of that generation. I saw Chisel live about 3 times, and they never disappointed. If you sample their back catalogue, maybe you will not so much focus on Jimi's voice. I'm sure Jimi would agree - Cold Chisel was an amazing band to be a part of, but it was a team effort. Also, Ian Moss is an excellent singer of some of their songs. I’m 57 years young I’ve been listening to chisel and Jimmy forever, I’ve never heard him sing a bum note. Why these guys aren’t a world wide super band is beyond me. In some respects I’m glad cause it means, living in NZ I’ve got to see him many times. Love the reaction, was so fun waiting for you to realise it wasn’t an Elvis cover.

I was waiting for your surprise when expecting the Elvis version, I was giggling in fact. Love this song, always a staple in a live concert oc theirs.
I saw Jimmy last year for his 30th anniversary of his Soul Derp album and he performed the song that you were expecting that night.
In his young day it was high octane . He really is a talent but every one missed it and called him a screamer . You either love him or hate him and I love him ,he had that bad boy look when I was young ahhh where did the yrs go ? Thanks so much

Always loved this down and diry raw song of theirs.
Sadly Steve passed away within a decade of this.

I Love your channel and I watch it for hours! Did you know that Jimmy can lose his talking voice but can still sing perfectly? He said in an interview once that he lost his voice and couldn’t talk. They were dumbfounded why he could still sing. They put a camera down his throat and asked him to sing. They seen that he doesn’t sing with his normal vocal cords used for speech, he sings with his false vocal cords predominately

My favourite Chisel song!!! Thanks for reacting to it! It always brings back memories of travelling up and down the Pacific Highway long before it was the freeway it is now. I grew up in Coffs and travelled regularly between there and either Brisbane or Sydney, waiting for overtaking lanes while stuck behind trucks and/or caravans, hoping the coppers weren’t around the corner with the radar.

I was 14 years old.
The tape was Jimmy Barnes.
For the Working Class Man.
No CD's yet. No internet.
Old Cassette Tape.
Even back then his voice was mind blowing on Cassette Tape.

Barnes also does a version of Elvis' Hound Dog on his Soul Deeper album, it's not a rock n roll version though. More like bluesy swing or jazz.

Jimmy Barnes is not a nice man. Even if you think he's a good singer, which he isn't, he has done some nasty things to Ian Moss ( Jealousy?? ) ad not a nice bloke. That's speaking as a musician from his city.
