Thats what made him what he is today, i had garage passes at the 05 Daytona 500 and actually was able to talk to him foor about 10min. Its a time I'll never forget, he is so down to earth. Just a great guy and his dad would be proud.

He did EXACTLY that. When he came back to get his last paycheck, he put his arm around the manager and walked him outside, pointed up at the name on the dealership and told him that he was 2 letters away from being fired.

A new shop manager had been hired in I'll and I didn't know it and since I owned the joint I had keys to everything so I'd just run my truck into an open bay and fix it. We became great friends after that!!

If my manager ever asked me to stay after work for a work related meeting and not be on the clock, I'd leave too! I wouldnt even need to be told to pack my tool box, I'd already be doing that! When I owed a tire shop I never did that, you had to attend a meeting it was always on the clock. That was illegal it is against federal and most state labor standards to make a person stay for a off the clock meeting and that was over 32 years ago. Most of the time if I needed a meeting it was at the start of the day. That way I kept it short and we get out of there fast.

I lost my family and I was taking care of my sister who had a 6 year old boy.She passed away in 2015 and the state came and got my nephew the same day she died of breast cancer. I helped her take care of her during her chemotherapy and she died at 48 years old . The state got my nephew the same day she died. I had no where to go but to a homeless veterans quarters in Asheville. I lost basically my whole family and I had asked if you cou6help me get a car through your foundation. No luck there. Since then I have been able to get my own place and a good job at a factory in black mountain NC. I just recently bought a 2009 lexus rx 350 with 184 thousand miles. Nobody was asked to work it was a meeting. It happens all the time in every dealership, especially on the sales side. Day off or not you are expected to be at a meeting when you say so.
Sounds like a weirdo slipped into the mix. Making people stick around for nothing isn’t even a rational thought. I worked a job for several years. I- we all agreed to the terms of our employment. We were all very well compensated for our time. Which was 24-7 until the job was complete. Sometimes it took 4 or 5 days sometimes a few months. We made serious money. After it all ended someone was sore about being out of work and complained that we did not get paid overtime while working. It wasn’t written into our pay agreement. The job we did mainly consisted of sitting down and doing nothing for hours on end literally. We were just a warm body for accountability. If something went wrong we fixed it or got fired. The powers that be sent me a ton of paperwork to sign so that I could be compensated for overtime. Stating it was already settled and everyone deserved it. I refused it based on principle. I agreed. I was very satisfied with the pay I was blessed to have received. I was not willing to participate in what amounted to someone throwing a fit after the fact.

just to enlighten you. More money goes to Corporate Welfare than individual welfare. Getting welfare in general is hard, I know, I got food stamps after 2 heart attacks. I had to prove I was poor ( I was ) and it was limited to 3 years. I used up 2 years worth. I got no cash, just 192 a month in food for someone who had very little energy and with congestive heart failure, couldn't have more than 1000mg of sodium per day. Eating low sodium is super expensive, cost way more than 192/month. There are folks who abuse the system but they are 1-3% max, the other 97+ % are given hell for it. The budget for "welfare" is very low compared to the breaks the Feds/States give big corp. Are you bitching about their free money ? If you were ever really poor in your life, you would know the actual truth of it and not the Fox talking points. I am white, I know way more white ppl getting help that POC. When I got the help I couldn't make more than $800/month or I would lose it. It was either make $900 and no food help or $800 and get help. That is the problem with the system, if you make just a little too much you lose it all.

@@chadbrochill9945 Look up your facts. Vets are a large recipient of welfare. Florida used to force drug tests, it found < 0.5% were dirty. The cost to drug test cost more than the money it got back in denying claims. Also, most are kids getting SNAP. That is just food, no actual cash. When I got food I couldn't make more than 700/month or lose it. It is crazy. If I made 701 I lost the food. maybe many make more than allowed but it is not a lot more. I only got 192/month for food. If you don't have kids and your not disabled you don't get cash, only food help. Having went thru the process, it is harder to get than most people say and it isn't much when you do qualify.

That "stay after work for an unpaid meeting" is straight up illegal. He did the right thing. An hourly worker trades his time for pay.

i've been a tech for 30 + years. these type of service managers are a large part of the reason people get ripped off taking their car in for repairs.

Nobody was asked to work it was a meeting. It happens all the time in every dealership, especially on the sales side. Day off or not you are expected to be at a meeting when you say so.

I worked a job for several years. I- we all agreed to the terms of our employment. We were all very well compensated for our time. Which was 24-7 until the job was complete. Sometimes it took 4 or 5 days sometimes a few months. We made serious money.
After it all ended someone was sore about being out of work and complained that we did not get paid overtime while working.
It wasn’t written into our pay agreement. The job we did mainly consisted of sitting down and doing nothing for hours on end literally. We were just a warm body for accountability. If something went wrong we fixed it or got fired.
The powers that be sent me a ton of paperwork to sign so that I could be compensated for overtime. Stating it was already settled and everyone deserved it.
I refused it based on principle. I agreed. I was very satisfied with the pay I was blessed to have received. I was not willing to participate in what amounted to someone throwing a fit after the fact.
Im guessing Dale Sr knew Jr was gwtting fired... otherwise he wouldnt have been a racer.

Wow that's pretty crazy,even senior was surprised,hey but know this my grandpa was a big cheese at coke and he never like those after work meeting either Dale they'd have to work a 10 hour day,go home put a suit on and listen to some executive who did know squat about selling Coca cola,and my gramps was never shy about telling them that either,but hey it worked out,me I have never benefited from drivingvfar to do my job...people want u to suck up that gas bill I tell no way.most good company's if you drive 60 mile round trip they pay for your commute...if they don't I telling kiss this,I'm gone.

just to enlighten you. More money goes to Corporate Welfare than individual welfare. Getting welfare in general is hard, I know, I got food stamps after 2 heart attacks. I had to prove I was poor ( I was ) and it was limited to 3 years. I used up 2 years worth. I got no cash, just 192 a month in food for someone who had very little energy and with congestive heart failure, couldn't have more than 1000mg of sodium per day. Eating low sodium is super expensive, cost way more than 192/month. There are folks who abuse the system but they are 1-3% max, the other 97+ % are given hell for it. The budget for "welfare" is very low compared to the breaks the Feds/States give big corp. Are you bitching about their free money ? If you were ever really poor in your life, you would know the actual truth of it and not the Fox talking points. I am white, I know way more white ppl getting help that POC. When I got the help I couldn't make more than $800/month or I would lose it. It was either make $900 and no food help or $800 and get help. That is the problem with the system, if you make just a little too much you lose it all.

@@chadbrochill9945 Look up your facts. Vets are a large recipient of welfare. Florida used to force drug tests, it found < 0.5% were dirty. The cost to drug test cost more than the money it got back in denying claims. Also, most are kids getting SNAP. That is just food, no actual cash. When I got food I couldn't make more than 700/month or lose it. It is crazy. If I made 701 I lost the food. maybe many make more than allowed but it is not a lot more. I only got 192/month for food. If you don't have kids and your not disabled you don't get cash, only food help. Having went thru the process, it is harder to get than most people say and it isn't much when you do qualify.

@@chadbrochill9945 I know dealers ( well long ago anyway ) and many of them do use their stuff. It is tv fallacy to say they don't. Many dealers become dealers to pay for their own habit. Drug conviction also keeps you from getting SNAP or WIC. Like I said earlier, your beliefs about those who get gov help are not correct. Stop watching tv. Look up research on it. Get educated.

Yrgg2004 WTF. It is illegal to ask or expect people to work, or attend work related meetings off the clock. Jr was absolutely right and Dale Sr should have fired that POS service manager.
He did the right thing by stating his concerns and then asking his dad for advice before getting fired. I’d say he was being smart and responsible. As a guy who’s worked since I was allowed to and now a business owner I would never expect an employee to work for free whether it’s a meeting or not.

If my manager ever asked me to stay after work for a work related meeting and not be on the clock, I'd leave too! I wouldnt even need to be told to pack my tool box, I'd already be doing that! I don't want to work for a manager who clearly does not give a flying f**k about you, or any laws there may be. Good on you Jr.
