Even if he would have been far enough away from the blast he would have died on the spot because the heart of the mold died.
I think Umbrella are done after Resident evil 3, thats why Tricell come out. Resident evil after Resident evil 3 is story' how umbrella get their logo and what happen to their EX agent and personil.
