NEVER buy from a dealership that does these 10 things:
    1. Doesn’t have what you need and isn’t immediately willing to get it for you
    2. Can’t show you the invoice sheet
    3. Can’t commit to a concrete trade value and gives you a vague range
    4. Has a high doc fee, charges for extras like window tint, or other stupid accessories
    5. Says they “NEED” to make a profit
    6. Can’t give you a price on the phone or email and insists you come in
    7. Can’t confirm the car is in stock for you by checking the lot before you go in
    8. Advertises the car with a price drastically less than the MSRP by subtracting ALL possible rebates
    9. Requests you fill out a credit application to give you a quote when you tell them you have perfect credit
    10. Requires you finance with them to qualify for a particular price

Here’s a zinger! I found the perfect vehicle for me today. A total of $71k with ttl. After my down and factory rebates the price dropped to $62k. I asked the dealership to lower the price by $2k... they said, “No”. They said they aren’t negotiating the price because the manufacturer is short on supply. Not my problem, I’m buying a vehicle. So they want to hold on to the vehicles they have?? I’ve never heard such nonsense in my entire life. So I walked. But they wanted my number, you know, just in case they can “work something out”. Ford dealership. Another Ford dealership tried to sell me that identical vehicle (different color) for nearly $10k more. This is what absolutely makes me despise car buying.

  • @joecoolioness6399

I absolutely hate the lease ads where the car is $199 a month with no money down, then you read the fine print and it says "with $5000 trade equity". Or $199 per month and the fine print says "with $5,000 down". For people like me who know the game it just pisses me off and I don't want to give them my business, and for those that think they really can get a $50,000 car for $199 a month, I'm sure they get pissed too when they show up and are told about the fine print.

    • @xxfire07

If I could get a $50,000 Rubicon for $199 with $5,000 down or a trade worth $5,000 and my payments were not more than 84 months I would be jumping for joy.

My experience: 99 percent of dealer salesmen will NOT give the price on the phone. The usual talk” come for a test drive and we can work something out.
Last week I had a crook give me a similar experience. I went to the dealership and he wasted 3 hours of my time. Every time he would go to meet his (non existent) manager the price actually went up by $ 500!!!
On one of his trips to “meet his mansger”, this crook sales guy forgot to take the worksheet with the numbers. I knew this guy was playing games because he was meeting his “manager” on the first floor, the second floor and at the cafeteria. He didn’t think I would notice.
I always wonder if there are any honest guys in this business ?

Pre Approved Loan (PAL) has always worked well for me. I never trade in or finance with a dealer. I sell privately and usually buy 1-2 year old vehicles and one owner. If they will not talk price only first, then I'm gone. Also watch out for your title and tag fees. Call your DMV office and ask what the actual charges are for purchasing a vehicle new or used in your state. Dealers will "Round up" those charges if they can get away with it. I had one try to charge me $300 for a title fee in Florida. It's actually $87.50 and you can transfer a plate you own and save the initial plate fee of $225. They will not tell you that. Bottom line is do your homework. They look for every chance to work in a few dollars. I walked away over $200 dollars once. They called back two days later and gave me my price. Don't get attached or fall in love with a car. Be nice and polite, but just walk away.

I never tell them how I’m paying or if I’m trading one in. Get the best price for the car then negotiate payment options and trade ins. If your car is any good sell it privately. I only trade in POS’s.

A lot of times the manufacturers rebate, although a heavier discount, includes a rate that’s higher than your bank or a credit union might offer. I tell my customers all the time. If you plan on paying the car off early, take whatever rebate. If your going to hold the loan for the duration, take the lower APR.

I am very fortunate to be able to buy a car for cash. What I have done for my last 3 new car purchases is this. First, I do research and decide what I am willing to pay that is what I think is a fair price. Then I call the dealership and, after the usual niceties, say " I want to buy a new __________. I am going to save us both some time. I am willing to pay a total of $---- plus tax tag and title. If you can meet this price, call me back today at (phone number) and email me confirmation at (email address). If not, there is no need for us to communicate further. thanks for your time. " I always get a callback with a "best we can do" offer. I decline politely and hang up. They have always called back after that, and after some whining about how they are losing money on this deal, agreed to my offer.

As a dealership employee what Ari said about the notes not being updated is important. And a lot of dealerships use call center contractors to handle initial call ins. So the person who said that the car is there might not even be physically at the dealership! They would have to report the call to the store pr transfer it through.
For my customers I've always offered to, with their permission, give them my cell phone to call. I would go out to the scr and take a selfie with the car, then ask them to text me a code word that I would use in a quick 15 second video standing in the same spot so they know I and the car are really there. I'd make sure to show the VIN label on the pillar or something to confirm that the vehicle is what they saw online. Then from there I could do a walk around with them in real time and make sure it was exactly what they were looking for before coming in to view it.
I would recommend some kind of similar process customers could ask a dealership employee on the phone to protect their time. Ask specifically for a salesperson on the sales floor because you want them to go out to the car and confirm something for you. An off-site BDC or internet appointment setter won't be allowed to volunteer that they can't help you unless you ask directly for someone. Then tell them to text you a selfie with like your name written on a sheet of paper standing in front of the car. Then ask them to Facetime you or whatever you need. I like uploading videos to TH-cam so they could go back at their leisure to view whatever they needed.

I identify what type of dealer I am dealing with and either move forward towards a deal or move on. I do not waste my time or theirs and will not spend much time at the dealership as well. I just bought a 2020 Buick Encore as a second vehicle, MSRP $27,180.00, I bought it for $17,513.62 out the door. I spent no longer than 35 minutes at the dealership from beginning to end. Total of 9 minutes with the F&I guy. BTW, I worked out the price over the phone with one dealership (40 miles away), went to a much closer Buick dealership to test drive but I already knew he did not have the color I wanted. After the test drive I told him straight up I was just using him for the test drive. Told him my deal, he said he could get me one with the color I wanted, I said BS, he talked to his manager for 1 minute, came back and said if I would take one of his black, white or silver Encore's he would beat the price by $1K. I wanted red or blue. I thought about it for a minute, it's a second car, so color not that important. I took a white one and was out in a little over 30 minutes.

A good Dealerships JOB is to match the needs of a buyer to solve the very first problem the buyer has ...... Buying a New vehicle. Needs = TO PRODUCT Over VALUE. A Price "quote" must always be secondary when you're trying to solve the problem of finding a product that meets the customer's needs.
