    Thank you! Been following this for what seems like forever. Great to see some detail and history on DLS! Would love to see more on the R&D of the engine heads as that seems like a monumental task. How light did you get it to? Also, thank you for keeping it N/A.

      Well, bike engines deliver about 200hp/liter, stock.
      What’s astonishing is the weight of that thing. I like Porsche, but I LOVE Lotus. The Singer964 is the best of two worlds!

      @@SuperDukeSthlm Do you know of any AIR COOLED engines that can produce 100 - 125 hp per liter? Air cooled is the challenge. I don't think it has ever been done before. The pressures, the heat management, the surface area for heat exchange.
      I have heard no updates around this air cooled engine. It will be amazing if they can REALLY do it.

      Well, Honda CB750 delivered 68hp from 736cc air cooled in 1969. So to expect more than that 50 years later seems reasonable.

    I hate to burst your bubble, 2:51 the FIRST air cooled flat six, ORIGINATED at General Motors, 6 years BEFORE Porsche could figure it out. The flat 6 air cooled Corvair was designed in 1958-59 and came out in 1960. 90 HP... Porsche had always wanted a 6, but they had problems with the center cylinder cooling. The Porsche 911, flat 6, came out in 1965... FIVE YEARS AFTER the Corvair hit the road. By 1965 Corvair was 4 carb 150 HP or TURBO 180 HP. Turns out Porsche hired the GM engineer, former aircraft radial engine designer to solve their cooling problems. And thats the REST OF THE STORY... Next time you see a Corvair on the road, you might want to tip your hat to your real father...

    • @Andrew-vx2ls
      @Andrew-vx2ls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The real inspiration for the VW Porsche flat 4 was the Tatra 87 (1936) and T97 which was an aircooled, rear engined V8 / Flat 4. Porsche had to settle a law suit on this matter. The Corvair is not really of interest for the reason you give, but for the introduction of the turbocharger...

      @@Andrew-vx2ls Porsche eventually hired the aerospace engineer that 'staggered' the jugs on the Corvair flat 6, fixing the problem of center cylinder overheating, that Porsche couldn't resolve on their own.

  • @hockeymann88
    @hockeymann88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've thought about this.
    This engine will not be reliable and it is not like it can be rebuilt with parts from a catalog.
    500 hp out of an air cooled 6 is too much heat. Even Porsche knew it could not be done. Give Porsche engineering credit. When the air cooled 6 exceeded 400 hp, Porsche engineers knew the heads would need to be water cooled and that was with TWO valve heads. A FOUR valve head has less head-material surface area within the combustion chamber to dissipate heat.
    500 hp and no water jacket; this engine will be fragile. Not exactly what you would expect from a 1.8 mil. sports car.
    The consultation with Norbert and Singer is superficial and mostly marketing. Hell, even in this brief video you can see them questioning the 125 hp per liter goal.
    Singer have moved far away from their sweet spot with this endeavor.

      @@allensaunders449 The problem is with that "collectors car" part.. In the end, it's just a modified car. Typically, modified cars are not the ones to hold significant value over time. Rather, it is the limited production factory models.
