- Searching for Wheat Cents - Penny Hunt and Fill #115
I've decided to start a new series and see how far we can get at attempting to fill up a Dansco Penny Folder. There are 234 slots in this Folder but we don't expect to fill them all through coin roll hunting. Instead, we want to see how long it will take to fill the book with everything but the Key Dates, Semi-Key Dates and Steel Cents. Obviously, we'll be praying for some of those along the way!
This is part 115 of the series (Boxes 212-213) and I do plan on updating it from each penny box I hunt from this point forward until the penny coin collection is nearly completed! I will say in advance that once we get to a point where it is nearly impossible to add any more wheat cents to the album, we will then halt the series and try to fill the rest of the slots with existing finds or coins in my duplicates collection.

Occasional rhymes are great. As for the hunt, 5 pounds of copper is nice and you got rid of a low grade coin in the book. THAT IS GOOD!!!!!

Any way you choose to hunt is ok with me! The 1918-D was a nice find considering it was the lowest mintage of the year. I am always delighted in any mint mark cent earlier than 1940. Always enjoy your hunts. Just a thought that you keep together the upgrade cents and auction them as a starter set after you get enough for the regular dates too. You da: man!!

I ended up again with 2 great boxes! 105 wheats total out of both boxes. Oldest was a 1916 d a 1918d a 1920 no mint a 34 no mint and a 37 d. Bunch in the 40.s and 50.s but all amazing shape! As well as a cool 1960 d small date error extremely cool and is in red brown. It has a large b.i.e error the top of the 9 is filled with a die chip and the 0 is almost all full big die chip. Again Blessed to found it was my favorite of the box!
I got a perfect 1957D penny sent to me in a flip as gift. I will always caution people about the cardboard flips. I thought for sure that the coin was in MS66+ condition. So I was going to send it into PCGS. Well...after removing it from the cardboard flip, the edge of the penny was totally black. Storage issue. Never put pennies in cardboard PVC flips, when ms+ condition. An ms-66+ 1957D can grade out at $200, instead of 3 cents.

When I buy bulk wheat cents if I see a 1914 my heart skips a beat. I've yet to get a 1914d tho.
1914 is definitely one of the most exciting years to find, maybe from seeing so many '14 d photos I just love the look of the 1914 date
