I agree with all of your criticisms The game really feels like a chore for the endgame stuff. A lot of endgame dungeons feel like they were designed by someone who hates fun.
As someone who has recently started playing: i have never been more confused by a games systems. My brain hurts constantly juggling all the resources i need to build a team. I never know where to get resources or evo materials. I never know before wasting usually most of my energy whether or not i can clear content. Something like battle cats stars for estimating difficulty would be super appreciated. I dont really understand the archetypes that make teams function and cards functions can be drastically different between their evos. Generally there is next to no resources to be found for general game strategy on any site i dont need to mtl. This game has a very steep learning curve and it may be niche in english speaking countries but even with that its community has a minuscle online footprint. If the gameplay and card synergies (even though it always feels like my cards are somehow sub optimal for investment) were any weaker this game would habe nothing for me. That being said, the game feels incredibly fluid to play. Played through some ordeal dungeons to ordeal evo some of my cards and really enjoyed the mechanical involvement which makes me figure the game has smart design in newer content. Just disappointed that the game seems to suggest heavy experimentation but actively punishes it with energy costs, card investment costs, specific awk requirements and tiptoeing around damage absorb. Feels the game is balanced to make the game incredibly dependent on your team and almost entirely neglecting the really awesome matching gameplay that got me playing in the first place.
Every team needs the following, Awaken bind clear and dam absorb clear. Att absorb is less required but important. That’s usually 2/6 of your team. 3 cards will be your orb color generators. That leaves one card for whatever crap the dunegon has, such as 5x4, time restriction, or rcv boost.
@@twoolivetacos1680I’ll follow up on this in a little more detail: Your need an orb generation loop so essentially you can use an active every turn to make the orbs you need to activate your leader skill You need a cleric who will fully clear awoken bind and unmatchable status, You want a unit who can void attribute and damage absorption for multiple turns not just one (trust me on this) And you will usually a way to put back assists and clear blind skyfall, neither or which can be reasonably done via active skill, so you want some unit with an L and a cross awakening, the best clerics already come with an L Lastly you usually want a looping shield for endgame content to help you take hits better As for the other crazy dungeon mechanics you can fend off with awakenings, Your team ALWAYS wants full bind resist on every unit, 5 skill bind resists across the team including friend lead, one cloud and one tape resist, you usually want full blind resist may want poison and jammer resists depending on how your leader works(some will just generate a set amount of orbs at random and others will change one type to another), once you have what you need to counter mechanics specific to the dungeon you just need to be able to take the heaviest reasonable hit, reasonable means what hit you will always have to tank since some bosses will just nuke you if you get their HP too low so you can avoid this by killing them when they have higher HP, once you have enough health then focus on recovery, you want to focus on damage as well but your leader and subs will usually be good if you picked them right, teams are essentially divided by typing in terms of their damage, you have rainbow teams which are based on matching every color and having every typing represented on your team, your units will do more damage if you match every color, there’s mono and double type teams which are focused on one or two colors and within mono and double type teams, there’s VDP teams which focus on matching 3x3 boxes of a specific type, and there’s TPA teams which focus on 4 matches of certain types, sorry for the avalanche of text but it is necessary
I'd like to see them implement Free-To-Play teams or something. Like, before you enter a dungeon, you can choose a pre-built team that is capable of beating the dungeon, you just have to apply enough puzzle-matching skill. Would be especially fun with the collabs, to let you complete some of the collab dungeons with the new collab cards, so you can experience the cards before you decide to roll to own them. I've always loved the puzzle mechanics of the game, but the team-building just gets so dense that it isn't fun.
I have been playing since the days of zeus and I actively avoid anihilation or supergravity dungeons because they are a chore. Everything feels gated and tedious and even with the right tools.
Same here even if i lose out on stones and what not I rather just avoid tough dungeons and play on the easier ones since im not serious on progression and just want ti have fun
It's very hard for new players to utilize those power new transform lead. I know someone who pulled multiple Milim, but it will be quite awhile before he can get anywhere close to 37 SB in the beginning. Good thing he also got 2 Benimaru so he can loop him instead.
Honestly as someone who played PAD for over 10 years, I pretty much have just kept a distance away. Mostly playing other gacha games in the meantime (Priconne, Uma, GBF, Star Rail, Blue Archive, etc.) It really felt like the game just becomes more of a chore and the game just does not respect my time. Especially with how powercrept collabs feel and how irrelevant but relevant because you somehow needed a specific character/equip that is vital for the newer collab. Cycle repeats. It also doesn't help that getting collab rights in NA is harder and sometimes we get it delayed or shafted heavily. Not to really blame GH entirely for this, but the business strategy isn't good either Let's not forget how the exchanges where you're forced to grind way too many characters to get specific awakenings etc. Like outside of collection purposes for many, is there even a point?? Lack of pity system is pretty awful and exchange system is basically a bandage over a way too big of a wound. Also the content part is definitely way on point with how certain mechanics are designed, forgot void aborp? WELL NOW U DIE, especially with how the EN community are on a decline with it mostly being gatekept with Discord or Google Docs simulator, there's not much resources a EN player can view so I would have to resort to Japanese based wikis to clear content on EN. In addition to EN database getting DMCA'd making it even harder to find certain character usages etc. Tokoyami is pretty much the only reason I keep tabs with the game lol, even then it does feel like his content feel stale but then that's just the game and not a him issue
Been playing for actually like 7 years... And in the actual state of the game... There is not a moment i am not Raging for being shot down unexpectedly... I'm in the end game and i still love it... But the last time a cleared an end-game dungeon... Was like literally 3 weeks ago. Still love this game tho. Think i'll save for the 2 New godfest exclusive that as to Come.
Gonna ramble a bit: I still very much enjoy the game and probably won't stop playing unless it shuts down (which I hope doesn't happen anytime soon bc I've already dealt w multiple EOS in the past two years and I don't want to lose anymore games I'm attached to). However, that doesn't mean I don't have any qualms. The unknown nova for example, I haven't even unlocked all of them yet. I'm sure there must be a team I can make with what I have, but I've done so much trial and error trying to make my own teams or a similar team from someone's video, I'm kinda burned out right now. That might just be on me tho, a "skill issue". A few months ago I could sometimes clear the monthly lv15, now I don't even feel like trying, especially w how long it can take. And the current title challenge too, I feel like I have no chance with the monsters I have. Not necessarily bc of my skill, but bc of not having good enough monsters thanks to my gacha luck. Also something that significantly has impacted me: all of the sites w resources being shut down. I've heard it had to do w copyright, which I don't understand how all that works. I get that the company is likely in full rights to do what they did, but the least they could do is offer resources themselves. I've never seen any other company that's so aggressive to fanmade resources for other players, let alone being so aggressive while not providing any alternatives themselves. Like when I need a material to Evo a monster, give me a list of where I can get them so I don't have to comb through hundreds of dungeons, of which you can't even see the full list of possible rewards for the longer ones. I visited those websites so often they were listed ahead of my school website for classes. My progress has definitely been slower since they were shut down. I'm still so sad about the loss of all that information, information put together just to help other players. A year ago, I was recommending it to one of my friends and to my mom. Now, I wouldn't really unless they're fine with being super casual with slow progress. And here's the thing: I don't think it's inherently bad to introduce new mechanics. It helps keep things fresh and helps the game not feel stale, and can be fun for players who really like hard, complex challenges. *HOWEVER*, the way these new mechanics are being implemented right now feels overwhelming and like I can't keep up, or will ever be able to keep up unless I become a whale. I've kinda resigned myself to not being able to clear a chunk of the dungeons anytime soon. Semi-positive: I like the sync awakenings, I think it's a really cool idea. But it's a little annoying using all these resources to max a monster I likely won't use for anything else. Qilin for example used for the tanabata couple: lv 51 skill, oof. I've made a simple skill up team w her in it for her descended dungeon in an effort to cut down, but with no guarantee skill up, after 20 tries it didn't happen once, so I will likely begrudgingly use pys for the rest.
One other issue I've noticed is that Gungho moved away from exchange medals but many of the exchange medal GFEs don't appear in godfests anymore. A number of them have useful evos or equips for brick farming systems but they are basically unavailable to players who started in the last 1 1/2 - 2 years. If Gungho could increase the number and variety of GFEs in godfests, they would be more appealing to roll.
I've been playing since a year after the release (during the very first Hello Kitty collab) and now, I don't even really play much anymore. Like sure, I'll try and do my monthly quests whenever I remember to and whatnot but more times than not, I just don't fully complete them because of how ridiculous the power creep has gotten - they LOVE to put that damned Emerald Dragon in like every single level 10+ dungeon that has a 50% resolve and one-shots me, the only way I ever survive is to use an active that doubles my HP (or I guess I could also void all damage). I also agree that the level 8/9 monthly quest dungeons are the only thing that I find even mildly entertaining anymore even though they aren't particularly difficult. As far as team building goes, I hate the fact that I now have to do a checklist to try and make sure I cover all the bases between poison resist, blind resist, jammer resist, tape resist, cloud resist, cleric/cleanser, bypass damage absorption, bypass attribute absorption, resolve solution (either by leader or FUA), roulette solution, skill boosts if I'm transforming, etc. AND now, with the new wave of power creep, I need to make sure I have enough HP to survive hits and also make sure I'm hitting hard enough. Like good lord, it's such a chore to do, even if I had all the necessary cards, I can't imagine what a beginner player feels like. If it wasn't because of relatively low investment time that I put into this game, I would have longed stopped playing it but the game still scratches that itch every once in a while so I keep it around.
Puzzle & Collabs was a pretty good joke; but considering some of your other criticisms, we might as well fully rename the game to Active Skills & Collabs
I’ve been playing since Hera and Hero Descended were the big dungeons and this new collab meta is kinda trash, I’m not a big fan of hoarding stones to drop a crazy amount in a collab and even still potentially get shafted, plus they decided to devalue the hell out of godfest exclusives, half these events being 10 stones is wildly obnoxious, like the Gundam reskin was 10 stones and there were silver eggs in there like what is up with that?
Been playing 11 years (kinda sad). PAD is no longer a puzzle game it’s just Team Comp Builder. They leaned into ALL the evil gacha tropes and even killed off fan based community websites. The only thing left for me to defend is the artwork is still good. Agree with all your criticisms especially on the lame mechanics. One shot or be one shot is very accurate. Mechanics that specific team comps to overcome on top of the one shots …oh but no websites to help with that because GungHo struck them all down. I don’t understand how fans are still loyal at this point. Any other AAA game that makes headlines would be industry shamed for these tactics.
Well said Man. I very much feel the same way on most issues been addressed in this video. Everything in this game just feels more toxic than ever now: the endgame, ranking, rolling PVP etc. Monthly quest with fixed teams are those few moments that I feel like playing the genuine game Puzzles&Dragons. I guess most of the game will inevitably end up like this on its way chasing profit, we as players can't do much other than continuously lower our expectations.
I pretty much just log in and then roll in certain collab events. I don't even really play any of the dungeons except for the monthly quest ones (for the MS rewards). Other folks have already said this, but so much of the game really is a chore, especially team building. Having to juggle all the awakenings, latent awakenings, assists, etc. is just too much.
Coming from a long-time player and casual spender. I began to see PAD gearing towards the whale players. especially with all the meta teams for endgame content like SN2, requiring multiple 1% BGM or badge cards to clear constantly. Judging by the power creep going on in JP right now, skipping collabs isn't an option if you want to clear the latest endgame dungeon. Honestly, I would love to see JP players' thoughts on the state of the game. Since majority of the whales are in the JP verison.
It's really not fun anymore endgame. Lack of info sites due to shutdowns and full of gimmicks that waste your time. Dying just from making one mistake in late dungeon. Every floor has a gazillion gimmicks to overcome. Should just rename to Gimmicks and Collabs. Edit. I just entered a really annoying dungeon and this time, I think it's the final nail in the coffin for me. Been playing since the start of the game and I got so angry i nearly threw my phone. Thank you so much for all the years of amazing info and guides you have released. It's a thankless job. Cheers.
I like the collabs being more focused but I wish they would bring back or update older collabs for power creep I have a lot of old colab content that just feels useless even as assist because they don’t scale, I want to use some of my older cards and not just hope that a upcoming collab is something I want.
Very much feel this. I love PAD but the collab badges kinda make rolling in those a must and anything else not worth it. You are now rolling heavy to collabs for full teams jyst for the collab badge really and im not a fan of the idea that you have to have certain collab cards just to clear content when it releases.
NGL I find the game ar less fun nowadays than in the past. Have the best systems or end game is locked. Same leads, same ideas, too much to bring and no way to research what you need and find what you need. I would sell my accounts if I could. 5 is too many accounts anyway lol.
I don't hate on pretty much any of the games I play, but PaD is my exception. I still play this game, but holy moly their management is full of some crazy greed. The gameplay is so fun at its core, but their dungeons try and make things as frustrating as possible. Endgame requires you to roll a full team like every other week, even before collab badges. I know JP is fine and it's a big company, but I am not nearly as confident in the health of the game. If you don't have a healthy ftp population, then the whales will slowly disappear. I play Arknights and get a free hug, then load up PaD and get spit in the face while being asked to pay for it.
The game unfortunately is designed around rolling very very heavily to make a viable team. And it feels like the monsters you have past a month or two are a waste of box space. Other than that it's a great game for whalers

It would be interesting to hear what the Japanese player base thinks. I dont think Gungho would react to outside sentiments.

Exactly yo im not gonna spend 10 magic stones if the machine has mostly gold eggs or lower rarity
Did I miss a code geass collab???

8 year player here. pretty much just log on and get the daily rewards, thats it
Well if they open up the game to other region I believe they would have made more money. Currently overseas player can't even whale if they want to

game needs more floof
