So my great grand mother went to a white school when South Africa was run by the British, when the Dutch(Afrikaansmense) took over, they brought about Apartheid. If we observe history, the Dutch under the leadership of Hitler was also cracking whips in Europe and killing the French and English. So supremacy has always been their thing. I went to a white school and the Afrikaans and English white folks were very divided and us blacks called it the repeat of the "Anglo Boer" war meaning "English Dutch" war that happened in South Africa a long time ago. As a black I could be neutral and hear both sides, both teams thought they were smarter than the other, go figure 😂. This country has many cultural wars going on and the English speaking whites are probably also not happy with the Afrikaans only mandate being pushed. Zack, your insights into post-Apartheid SA is indispensable for ALL Africans. Rest of SSA is still dealing with neocolonialism; e.g , the CFA currency, borders , lack intra-African trade or interaction. It seems like Afrikaans will continue to be a language of separation, and growing economic & intellectual power of the Afrikaans minority people. Meanwhile, the majority of black people are too bz in survival mode, and the few black elites are more concerned with having access to exclusive areas, living in secluded areas, etc. it’s Apartheid by another name, and the govt of ANC is now reactive and weak, having wasted on internal power struggles. So my great grand mother went to a white school when South Africa was run by the British, when the Dutch(Afrikaansmense) took over, they brought about Apartheid. If we observe history, the Dutch under the leadership of Hitler was also cracking whips in Europe and killing the French and English. So supremacy has always been their thing.
I went to a white school and the Afrikaans and English white folks were very divided and us blacks called it the repeat of the "Anglo Boer" war meaning "English Dutch" war that happened in South Africa a long time ago. As a black I could be neutral and hear both sides, both teams thought they were smarter than the other, go figure 😂.
This country has many cultural wars going on and the English speaking whites are probably also not happy with the Afrikaans only mandate being pushed.

One think important though is that we need to be more organized as black peoples and love one another. Rest of SSA is still dealing with neocolonialism; e.g , the CFA currency, borders , lack intra-African trade or interaction. It seems like Afrikaans will continue to be a language of separation, and growing economic & intellectual power of the Afrikaans minority people. Meanwhile, the majority of black people are too bz in survival mode, and the few black elites are more concerned with having access to exclusive areas, living in secluded areas, etc. it’s Apartheid by another name, and the govt of ANC is now reactive and weak, having wasted on internal power struggles.
