Noel Gallagher: 'I never made it until I was 27, Jim Morrison died at 27' | AFP

  • Ex-Oasis star Noel Gallagher has never been one to mince words, and his new album "Council Skies", released 2 June, sees him in a reflective mood on what he sees as the miserable state of Britain. Gallagher wrote the songs for his new album during the Covid-19 lockdowns -- a period that he said was good for his creative process but triggered his deepest frustrations with the world.

      Hang out with great musicians and take lots of acid. You'll be amazed at the stuff you come up with. But he did have a unique perspective on life to draw from. He was young at a very touchstone time in history and came from a military brat background. The contrast surely gave him a lot to consider. And while he wasn't a specifically strong singer in the classic sense he did have an incredible voice.

      @Christopher Esposito he was definitely a very complex guy. He was only in his 20's so essentially a man-child. It was a time where the youth was rising up against the establishment and rebelling against authority.
      If you listen to his interviews he had a wisdom beyond his years. Very versed in philosophy and literature, extremely articulate. If you listen to his concerts where he's typically intoxicated he sounded less so. Unfortunately he suffered from the disease of alcoholism and also may have had an alcohol allergy. Very tragic ending for such a brilliant guy.

    Its actually crazy that noel was 27 which is considered to be old within the industry but you can tell he was going to write those songs just because it was a way of having that itch that need to have to express his experiences combined with imagination just a therapy sessiom expressing emotions. With his strong personality that included self confidence and f@&k you this is my story and the pure enjoyment/accomplishment of finishing a piece that he was going to write ragardless if he was famous. He can be a diva but he stands his ground and has you with the take it leave it choice and its safe to say oasis truly possessed that carefree attitude so with that and the fact that they knew noels songs were timeless and left you with chills like liam said like it or not they have the right to sit at the table with the greats that influenced them. You cant deny that they had such an impact and the attention worldwide. Even if you hate em you gotta respect em. Foo fighters is the only band i cna think of that is left that refuses to turn the ignition off and comes out of songs people that have been fans actually like. That whole rock n roller lifestyle is right at the end.

    The age thing in music used to be a massive thing - in the 1980s most A&R guys would not sign people over the age of 25. This used to freak people out when they were trying to make it in music and got into their late or even early twenties with still no success. When Seal came along with "Killer" at 27 it was a really big deal that he was that age. Journalist's at the time kept going on about how old he was!! He even made a point when he walked out at the Hammersmith Odeon to the crowd ( who were going nuts ) - "I have waited 28 years for this". Times change. You could drop a debut album at 35 now and no one would bat an eyelid.

    I love Noel and Oasis, but here a question. Why if Johnny helps Noel with a song and create a riff, for the tune, according to what Noel is saying here. Why doesn't he get any credit for the song? I mean, it sounds like it was more than just an arrangement.

    • @pointormond
      @pointormond ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I dont think Noel eludes to Johnny coming in and doing more than writing great guitar lines off the cuff. Which is amazing, but its not composition and doesnt pull writing credits. Look at Duane Allman writing the Layla riff and the Procul Harum keys player trying to get a slice of Whiter Shade of Pale. Integral to the song but they dont get it unless the band decides to go down the even split route. Love Johnny tho. Im quite sure hes not short of a quid so hes ok :)

    • @jumpboy29
      @jumpboy29 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Its funny when fans think Noel will ever hurt for money. Noel will soon own the copyrights to Oasis albums, the first 3 or 4...in 2025. I think his royalties will increase, plus if he sells them for a chunk sum, I imagine that would be 10-20 or 30 million dollars. The money his wife got from divorce likely becomes the inheritance of his two sons. Noel might be tempted to make the Oasis reunion money, but to think its money neeedds....Lol unlikely.
