  • The following demo illustrates a flying shear / flying cutoff application using the MR-MQ100 Single-Axis Motion Controller from Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. The servo motor follows feedback from an incremental encoder with a mark sensor that is used for high-speed registration.

i use fx5u plc to read value of encoder A/B. I used this function with fx3u is OK. but when i use with fx5u then not yet. maybe help me?

    Hello, where this application industrial?

Hi Ky, typical applications include various types of cut-to-length machines, printing, packaging, depositors, punches, product inspection, or any other process where synchronization at line speed is required.

Hello sir, I am using FX5U PLC for flying Shearing application in which main drive is siemens G120 which controls the movement of sheet to be cut, one encoder is fixed with rollers and pressed with force on sheet so that it will rotate when sheet moves. encoder feedback is given to PLC. For shear control we have Yaskawa servo drive which is controlled by PLC using pulse output. we are reading encoder feedback for speed and length calculation and according to that we are giving pulse output to servo. but its not working properly, whenever we change speed we get 20mm length variation and on constant speed we get 3-4 mm. but we require 1 mm max variation. what can we do in PLC. our main encoder is of 2000ppr. we have contacted with local support but no resolution found. thanks

I think it is not possible to do Flying shear application only with FX5U, you need to have motion controller next to it. FX5-40SSC-S
And servo has to be controlled over SSCNET, that means only Mitsubishi servo drives.
For flying shear application you need to communicate with drives over Ethernet, because inputs and outputs doesn't have fast response.
Maybe some Taiwan and Chinese PLC like Wecon LX3VE, but they are not very accurate when there is speed change.
They need some time, to adjust calculations.

Try to see is there any motion card for Yaskawa servo drive. Some servo drives can be expanded to have simple motion control with external optional card. That can be maybe the cheapest solution. And also when you are writing code in any PLC, especially for Motion control and fast system. Use commands for refreshing Input and outputs, immediately after activation of outputs in program. Because you will have delay for output activation until the scan cycle is finished. Depending on program it can be several or dozen milliseconds.
