Imma be honest I’ve been a fan of sonic since I was lik 7 years old… this is the first time I’ve heard he had and actual name I thought it was just tales 😭😭😭😭
I wasn't into Sonic growing up so had never heard his full name. But when he first said it, I just thought he was slurring his speech not saying a name 😂 "Is Pat having a stroke on camera??"
You say that the wide shot is out of focus, but I can see your knees crystal clear so I think we're really just paying attention to the important things in life
As a Final Fantasy lore nerd whose favorite era was the SNES one, I just want to say that Ben Schwartz misremembering literally every detail about them caused me physical pain, and that yes he would be an AMAZING voice actor for FFIV Cid.
Since the first Ben Schwartz and Pat interview, I have gotten married, had two beautiful children, bought and sold three beautiful houses, and my wife. Thank you Ben Schwartz Pat❤
I love that Ben actually confirmed the Akira bike slide was an intentional reference and even he knew what it was from not just the animators. There's so much love and passion put into this movie I can't wait to see it.
really though, props to pat for coming up with differently themed questions every single time. ben seems to sincerely love doing these interviews, and they certainly stand out from every other press event
11:43 GOOF: when the salt is removed it makes a ring collection sound rather than a rings lost sound. In a behind the scenes interview Pat revealed that he "does not give a shit".
This series of interviews is a complete blast. Just unbelievably funny. To see someone meet Ben’s chaotic energy with such aplomb is unreal. Pat just does deadpan delivery upon deadpan delivery of the most unhinged stuff, makes my head spin.
4:11 DUDE I ONLY FIGURED THIS OUT LIKE A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IVE BEEN PLAYING THESE GAMES MY WHOLE LIFE, THANK GOD IM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO SOMEHOW MISSED THIS
can't wait until the 4th movie comes out so I get to once again stop being able to breathe or use my ab muscles for 18 minutes as a result of painfully heavy laughter
I have rewatched the first two of these interviews so many times and I still die laughing each time. I'm so happy there's a third now. Ben Schwartz is a national treasure.
When I first heard Sonic 3 was coming out, what I was most excited for was that it meant Pat would be “interviewing” Ben again. I have yet to see any of the movies, but I hope they keep making them forever.
Sometimes an interview can elevate both the interviewer and the interviewee. I think this may be one of those pivotal and historical moments. It really brings back the memory for me of slamming 6 double a batteries into the Sega game gear and booting up sonic the hedgehog 2 for the first time. I saw Sonic and Tails together. Sonic himself is a fantastic and iconic character, but Tails really elevated the experience, pun intended. I think Ben here is a compelling individual to have as a supporting role as I usually think of him as a fit for a lead role and I think he excels there. It really goes to show his range. It parallels how I think of Tails and how such a dynamic and strong character, both an engineer, fox humanoid, and capable of unassisted flight plays as a supporting role to a very fast hedgehog. Sonic is possibly one of the best characters of all time, but it is like if Usain Bolt was supported by Michael Jordan who also could fly and make robots. Really speaks to the humility of Tails, or perhaps what a deeper speaking voice can provide a lead in an action setting. Either way I'm extremely happy to see these two work together again.
Ben if you're living dangerously enough to read TH-cam comments, I'm very afraid and proud of you in equal measure. I'm excited to see you as a lead in Sonic because it's you and you're playing Sonic, obviously. Loved your work in other shows but I'm realizing I'm not totally up to date on your other work and might have to check it out because you have a lot of presence. Sonic is one of the greatest characters of all time, glad they reworked his visuals a little, looks sharp. I do think for research purposes you should check out that one scene where sonic kisses a human and if you have the time blocked out for it the reddit thread asking "why does everyone have a problem with sonic kissing a human". Obviously this would more be direction in what not to do in the role since Sega is trying to distance itself from that sort of thing. Also whatever you do just mentally and physically distance yourself from the maelstrom of psychosexual trauma surrounding the Sonic the hedgehog fan art. It is not a part of the character or his lived experience in any way, it is not needed to understand the character, please look away. Thanks for being you!
I tucked myself into bed last night and watched the sonic 1 interview thinking "yup, a sonic 3 interview could be really neat", so this is a pleasant surprise!
I haven't seen a single Sonic movie, and haven't played a Sonic game in like 15 years, but I watch every one of these interviews pretty much as soon as they drop
Little piggies should eat their slop is one of those things that I'm going to randomly think about at an unrelated time and start laughing uncontrollably, causing confusion and likely irritation to anyone around me
Ben Schwartz on Polygon and Game Grumps have become my new fave thing to look forward to whenever there's a new Sonic movie. Always funnier than the last.
I know this wasn't in the recommendations but i found that burning the video into a GBA cartridge and running it through the gamecube adapter made the experience quite enjoyable
So who here is gonna fess up and say they also just learned about TAILS MILES PROWER = MILES PER HOUR
It sank in after the post-credits Tails reveal from the first movie
Imma be honest I’ve been a fan of sonic since I was lik 7 years old… this is the first time I’ve heard he had and actual name I thought it was just tales 😭😭😭😭
ive known for longer than polygon has existed
I wasn't into Sonic growing up so had never heard his full name. But when he first said it, I just thought he was slurring his speech not saying a name 😂 "Is Pat having a stroke on camera??"
This blew my mind. I am 44 years old. So, I have been a Sonic fan since the franchise began. And I DID NOT know this. lol
I'd describe Pat and Ben's style of improv as "yes, but"
Underrated comment
"Yes, but" and "No, also"
this is huge for a very specific subset of people and I'm so glad to be in that group
I also feel like I'm at the center of this Venn diagram, and I'm here for it
lol this is my niche and I’m glad it’s still going strong
Unironically this may be my favourite video series
I am not a well man
Love the fact that Ben just calls Colleen to confirm the pun
Love that he calls George Lucas to confirm the trivia
4:09
He is always singing her praises and making sure she’s mentioned in the same breath as Jim Carrey and Idris Elba and I think that’s so classy.
And the fact colleen alr understands
"I literally [...] would- I would [...] say 'little piggies should eat their slop.'"
-Ben Schwartz
Well I'm sold
i think coolsville sucks - ben schwartz
Pretty sure I heard an "oink, oink" in there too...
The bond between famous beloved actor Ben Schwartz and that guy from polygon Pat Gil is truly one of the most important things we have as a society
You say that the wide shot is out of focus, but I can see your knees crystal clear so I think we're really just paying attention to the important things in life
dang RIGHT!
Patrick and Ben are like cousins who only see each other for holidays. Always fantastic seeing them do buts and talk about Sonic.
buts
I love seeing them do buts too
lol you said “do buts”
Seeing Pat Gill have the upper hand at times in the video is pretty unsettling. It makes me worry if Ben is okay.
I think shadow Pat Gil was just too strong for him, which yeah fair
CHAOS CONTROL
This is my favorite part of every sonic movie
I hope they never stop making Sonic movies so Polygon never stops making Pat Gill interview Ben Schwartz
As a Final Fantasy lore nerd whose favorite era was the SNES one, I just want to say that Ben Schwartz misremembering literally every detail about them caused me physical pain, and that yes he would be an AMAZING voice actor for FFIV Cid.
Yes but also I heavily relate so badly.
It's probably been 30 years since he's played them. It's the same for me, I have approximate knowledge of many things.
Hearing Pat’s Keanu “that’s legitimately good”
genuinely impressed
Patrick, you could have shot this on 16mm and run it through a blurry and dusty high school projector and it would still bang.
Since the first Ben Schwartz and Pat interview, I have gotten married, had two beautiful children, bought and sold three beautiful houses, and my wife. Thank you Ben Schwartz Pat❤
wait a minute
i don't think i've seen another interviewer improv with ben like this and survive. kudos pat!
every time i celebrate a new sonic movie announcement im really just excited for another ben schwartz polygon interview. this is a big day for me
I think starting with a detailed explanation of SEO was the correct choice 👍
printing this off to show Ben in two years
I love that Ben actually confirmed the Akira bike slide was an intentional reference and even he knew what it was from not just the animators. There's so much love and passion put into this movie I can't wait to see it.
dawg it is literally impossible to animate an akira bike slide (or uh *anything* ) by accident, of course it was intentional
really though, props to pat for coming up with differently themed questions every single time. ben seems to sincerely love doing these interviews, and they certainly stand out from every other press event
oh poor ben and his aging brain, that he can't remember a single jrpg character's name
I did NOT see the Miles Prower pun until Pat pointed it out! Oh my god!!
Hey love how in focus the knees are! Great video, as always
this is cozy like when youre really sleepy with your cousins but you want to stay up longer to say silly things and laugh
I feel like “little piggies eat their slop” is something Ben Schwartz would say as the milkman
I love that you said this, not enough people reference Ben's amazing performance as the Milkman.
Sounds like something pyrocynical would say
them both vibing to the Sonic R soundtrack was so good
shoutout to Libby Watson for her analog signal converter, I'd recognize that rig anywhere.
It's no Tiny Telly, but it'll get the job done
Came here just to say the same thing!
THEY'RE BACK THEY'RE BACK THEY'RE BACK
This is exactly what I was waiting for. Thank you Mr. Gil and Mr. Schwartz
11:43 GOOF: when the salt is removed it makes a ring collection sound rather than a rings lost sound. In a behind the scenes interview Pat revealed that he "does not give a shit".
thanks for your bravery
@polygon 🫡
10:00 the ease which Ben Schwartz performs this bit...
10:20 THE DOUBLE DOWN IS SO FUNNY
I hope they never stop making Sonic movies so that Pat and Ben keep getting to do these incomparable interviews.
This series of interviews is a complete blast. Just unbelievably funny. To see someone meet Ben’s chaotic energy with such aplomb is unreal. Pat just does deadpan delivery upon deadpan delivery of the most unhinged stuff, makes my head spin.
It's a hot dog, Keanu, what could it cost? 100 dollars?
I've never watched a Sonic movie, but i love when there's a new one, that means another video of Ben bullying Patrick.
Can't believe they spent all that money to redesign Pat Gill. Those poor vfx artists must be exhausted.
BEN'S REACTION FINDING OUT THAT MILES PROWER IS A NOD TO "MILES PER HOUR" IS SO FUNNY TO ME!!! 🤣😭💀
Jeff Fowler, the guy who did CGI in Shadow the Hedgehog is also director of this movie? Incredible.
i will not be gaslit; this is the fourth pat+ben interview (original, zoom, ryan)
"sorry for the shot being out of focus"
Ben's denim "I don't see anything wrong"
I can’t believe this is their third interview. Each one is so chaotic. I wish they were my dads.
technically 4th! 😎 th-cam.com/video/06R3X-9oVH4/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
@@polygon can you ask if they will be my dads please
I decide to buy a ticket to this movie solely based on whether these interviews happen or not. Ticket bought.
just as iconic as ben's game grumps appearances. i absolutely live for this interview with each new sonic film.
I just want ben to keep getting interviewed by pat. idc what about. it's always a great time. i'll never forget the one with the bell.
This is such a great dynamic, love that they're doing a third.
I bet these 2 get smoothies together every Thursday at 4:00 pm. Their bond is too strong for once per movie
4:11 DUDE I ONLY FIGURED THIS OUT LIKE A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IVE BEEN PLAYING THESE GAMES MY WHOLE LIFE, THANK GOD IM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO SOMEHOW MISSED THIS
This needs to be animated and used as a dub for Shadow interviewing Sonic 😅
You're so right, the first two too. I'm going to look that up now
As always, a fucking delight and the best press tour interview possible
that really is a good keanu reeves impression, damn pat
can't wait until the 4th movie comes out so I get to once again stop being able to breathe or use my ab muscles for 18 minutes as a result of painfully heavy laughter
Pat why is your Keanu impression so good what the heck
I have rewatched the first two of these interviews so many times and I still die laughing each time. I'm so happy there's a third now. Ben Schwartz is a national treasure.
The best part about Sonic 4 being greenlit is having another of these interviews to look forward to
Pat, i can't tell you how grateful i am that this series of interviews exists.
When I first heard Sonic 3 was coming out, what I was most excited for was that it meant Pat would be “interviewing” Ben again. I have yet to see any of the movies, but I hope they keep making them forever.

I hope the Sonic movie franchise continues forever so these two are forced to do interview battle until the end of time.
this series of interviews is so legendary. i was so delighted seeing this pop up in my sub box!!
144p is such a cinematographic experience
Thank you for keeping it weird, Polygon. More like this please!
Pat Gill better be voicing Silver in the fourth Sonic movie.
This is the first video I’ve watched in so long that has made me LAUGH OUT LOUD
i hope they make sonic movies for the rest of time so that we can keep getting these interviews.
I just want Pat to randomly walk up to Ben at any point and hit him with "Shadow Question!" , even if its been like 5 years since this movie.
Y'all remember when Ben "Rejected Jokes" Schwartz said "little piggies should eat their slop?"
"ugh I love video games" is the most relatable moment 5:15
that Keanu impression was actually amazing
Finally, making a third Sonic movie was worth it!
if they don't do any more sonic movies, these two just should do a once-a-year podcast or something
great interview pat, i don't feel alienated at all
I'll keep my vibes Cali, you too, Pat. 🌴🌊🌅😎
I would love an entire mini series on "Ben Schwartz Sort Of Remembers Final Fantasy". That was hilarious.
This was so funny beginning to end 😂 The high octane opening was amazing
Love that this looks like it was filmed in a hostage situation.
Thank you for blessing us yet again Patrick
Another great ben schwartz interview from pat rick, how exciting
You guys have the best chemistry on earth. How are these so funny
Miles Prower... Miles Per Hour... My God 🤯
i learned this at age 34 and it blew my mind. - simone
I tucked myself into bed last night and watched the sonic 1 interview thinking "yup, a sonic 3 interview could be really neat", so this is a pleasant surprise!
What a wonderful fever dream of an interview 😂
Patrick and Ben have mastered the art of the un-interview in a way I think scholars will take decades to truly understand.
I haven't seen a single Sonic movie, and haven't played a Sonic game in like 15 years, but I watch every one of these interviews pretty much as soon as they drop
another way keanu reeves is similar to shadow the hedgehog is that they both ride the subway. shadow the hedgehog: he's just like us!
Little piggies should eat their slop is one of those things that I'm going to randomly think about at an unrelated time and start laughing uncontrollably, causing confusion and likely irritation to anyone around me
this is the best one yet, i hope they never stop making these movies just so we can keep getting these interviews
Lmao SOMEBODY borrowed Libby's RF Modulator for that opening bit
Pat Gill, what a treasure - excellent work again. Also Ben Schwartz in an HD remake of Chrono Trigger would be the most bizarre timeline.
PAT YOU'VE OUTDONE YOURSELF ON THIS ONE (COMPLIMENTARY, ALSO DEROGATORY)
ben is that you
God, I love that Ben can just call Colleen whenever he wants.
Yes 😭✨️
Ben Schwartz on Polygon and Game Grumps have become my new fave thing to look forward to whenever there's a new Sonic movie. Always funnier than the last.
This is my very favorite series on the internet. Kudos to everyone involved. Rad stuff.
the most subtle of "sonic blue arms" reference is actually so spicy.
Ben got straight-manned out the wazoo with that peter pan bit.
Time to eat slop, little piggies
From cbb to ben and friends to parks and rec and game grumps. Ben i love everything you do 🙌🙌
This trilogy is amazing. I shall binge-watch these again.
These interviews are the only reason I have watched all Sonic movies so far
I know this wasn't in the recommendations but i found that burning the video into a GBA cartridge and running it through the gamecube adapter made the experience quite enjoyable
So happy to have the run back of the run back of this interview series!
I laughed when he said "ugggghh i love video games". nothing wrong with that impression
