  • Just outside of Romeoville, Illinois, is maybe the only stretch of water in the entire United States where if you were to fall in, the U.S. coast guard will not attempt to save you. The reason why...is completely invisible.

I live in Northern Illinois and they're really trying to change the name of the fish to "Silverfin" in an attempt to hopefully attract eaters. People hear "carp" and they think "trash fish" but I had a taco made with one and it was just as good as any other fish taco I've had. It's boney so things like tacos, burgers, anything ground really.
And renaming a fish to make it more commercial has worked before: Orange Roughy was renamed from "Pacific smilehead" and Chilean Sea Bass, which sells for freaking $30/lb, was the Patagonian toothfish.
In fact it worked *so* well for the Chilean Sea Bass that poaching has nearly collapsed fisheries several times. Which if it happens to the Silverfin...I'd be fine with that.

5:20 Tortoiseshell Calicos are my absolute favorite.
That aside, I would propose a automated remote tactile transducer or even something as simple as a vibration motor that would be remotely and/or scheduled to activate after a large bin/netting/capture basin retracts. Then as it activates it would be anchored to the riverbed on shock mounts and move itself up and down a shaft from max depth to almost surface. Also as it activates, pnumatic solenoids extend the bin to catch the flailing carp.
Another idea would be to drop small vibrating and eccentric objects from drones and account for the speed of the river to try and catch the fish after they jump into a downriver bin.
Both ideas would only need remote timing and control and would not require onsite humans to minimise risk.

It was, but the challenge wasn't met. Most states with waters in the Mississippi system have made desperate attempts to destroy these fish both with laws banning anyone who catches one from releasing it, so-called "kill on sight" orders, encouraging massive fishing of them, bowfishing (the bow and arrow thing he mentioned), shooting them (it doesn't work and is stupidly dangerous, but people tried it), and pushing recipes for them to encourage people to eat them.

Reasons to keep your cat inside:
-Longer lifespan for your cat (outdoor cats average 2-5yrs, indoor cats can live to be over 15)
-They cause insurmountable damage to ecosystems (domestic cats kill more birds than wind turbines)
-They can easily contract toxoplasmosis, the effects of which are grossly under-researched in humans; and it can also cause livetsock animals to miscarry (if your farm has a rodent problem, setting up nesting spaces for owls will help out a hell of a lot more)
If your cat screams and wails and destroys things if you don't let her outside, play with her! harness train her to take her on walks! give her supervised outdoor time! if you can't entertain an animal that sleeps for roughly 18 hours a day, maybe don't have one.

That a few years ago was so dirty full of many chemical disposals from industries and trash/ human waste, that the few ppl that fell in died from being sick with no way of recover. Even a firefighter that tried to save a woman that just fell also died with her after getting out. Gladly and thankfully they cleaned the river and now its not deadlier anymore.

Electrolysis of water does produce oxygen and hydrogen. However, saltwater will produce chlorine. This should have been mentioned as a brief safety reminder. Though it's small in amount, it's the principal that matters.

If we’re talking about deadly bodies of water, let me tell you about the dread I feel when I think of the Bolton Strid. While the water itself doesn’t have any properties such as being electrified or radioactive, it is deadly.
Do not let the photos of it fall you, it is not an idyllic stream. In reality, it is a river forced onto its side that is believed to not have had a single person survive falling in. If you fall in then that’s it for you. The Bolton Strid will be your grave as the currents drag you down into the hidden caverns below, obliterating you against the rocks along the way. Learning about it has given me a very healthy respect for bodies of water and probably a new phobia.
