I have a defense for Light but it's not good. I think Light is 100% guilty but I think that you could say that he has mental problems because of trying to be too good at stuff and developed a mental problem from the stress of keeping up and that could have developed his thinking of society and relationships between people in his life. He should have been sent to a mental place, but then he would 100% get out somehow, lol. Sorry if this is worded weirdly, I am bored and a little tired.

It is a good argument to make, but for that to stick in court you would need to prove that he is incapable of handling the prison sentence or the hearing itself, which i guess could work well if you took the version of light at the very end where he was completely unhinged.
Though, you did just give me a good idea, what if you approach the case in the format of, light was never in control in the slightest, and that the moment he got the death note, it changed him on a psychological level? A shut in that has essentially no social life and focused entirely on academics, would be an easy mark to mental manipulation i would say, not like anyone can really argue that the death note does NOT definitively have mind controlling aspexts aspecially with a damn shinigami right there
Formatting the defence in that manner might work, but what do you think? Literally just typing this randomly so i cant speak to its eligibility or legitimacy lol
