But those items even in DQ7 have a 100% chance to break AFTER a death spell would normally kill you so you really better off using ARMORS that have a null/resist DEATH spell effect in the case of DQ7 only Melvin Aria Maribel can equip those angel robes buyable END of disc 1 in DQ7's case.
I really wanna replay the game, but unlike the first time, where I had the entire pandemic to 100% it, I don’t have that much time luxury anymore. Maybe if I do some good managing, I can squeeze in a good chunk of progress each day.
I hate that draconian challenge so much because it doesn't separate the 'game over on hero death' and 'restart from last save on game over', the first one I want to do, but sure as hell not the second.
Wait, you can't use your other 4 team members on draconian? Because without draconian it also catapults you back somewhere, if I remember correctly. 8 characters on normal basically make you immortal, though (unless that thing on the video happens twice in a row)
Played the first nine regular games and have beaten all but vi and viii(primarily due to some complexities of both)and can say I have never wiped in this fashion outside of the gold batboon's suck-rifice spells in the original nes version of Dragon Warrior ii.

This is one reason i prefer action rpgs over turn based ones. If the enemy uses an overpowered instakill attack, you're screwed. You have to either be super overleveled to tank it, or hope rng lets you block or dodge it. At least in an action game you could just dodge roll.
You can use anti-instant kill spells or accessories to block them. Double up with Anti-ambush accessories or passives if the game has them. Also speaking of "dodge rolling" ... the player willfully engaged this monster because it appeared on the world map, so it's not like it was a surprise that was sprung on the party. Also why does not anyone have more agility than the monster does? Modern DQ doesn't have AGI boost stuff?

I don't know about DQ4 onward, but there are two instants of instant death that infuraite me... the Dark Elves in the Ice Cave in FF1, if you encounter them they will surprise you 75% of the time and drop multiple Fire3/Bane spells on you that will 1RKO your party, and this is the last dungeon before the airship, where you could have gotten the ProtectRings, and then DQ2, where the last section has Silver and Gold Batboons that have AoE Defeat and Sacrifice that can wipe out your party right after getting out of a VERY long maze.
Ah yes.
OP when the enemy uses it.
But useless when i use it
the only time instakills work is
a: when you got nothing left to lose and use it *
b: when an enemy uses it
u need to use it against a large group of enemies example luminary trials
Erik: *THATS FOR BEING AN ASS*
"some of the party die"
*entire party dies*

At the end of act 2 it worked SEVEN TIMES for the BOSS straight

It's much more fun on Draconian Questlines when you have to start back at your save point. DQXI One of the greatest time sinks of all time.
