- I wanted more low speed control and the stock gearing was a little too fast for me with my Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 21T 550 motor. So I decided to gear down and get the 45T spur and use a 12T pinion. I also decided to replace the motor mount with an aluminum one while I was at it.

Motor mount totally worth it. I do have a 11T pinion, but I'll see how the 12t works first. I also have underdrive for the rear prepared to go in.

Yup all great upgrades .. But to reduce speed why not just go to a 35 or 55 Turn motor?
This will also help with low speed control by running a smaller pinion/bigger spur. I may go to a slower motor, but I wanted to test how much low speed control is improved with this on the 21T 550.

do you have to upgrade the speed controler when you upgrade the pinion gears ? am asking becouse i have burn tout a speed controler after i upgraded the pinion gear .
No you shouldn't have to, and I don't know why you would've burnt it out. Did you try to gear it too high? It's usually better gear down.
Are you Still using these gear settings? Hows the low end speed and torque with the stock traxxas 21t 550 motor?
Yes, I still am. I'm actually using a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 550 21T in there if I remember correctly. The speed and torque are fine, but I've noticed it being a little noisy. I need to figure out if it's the gear settings or the aftermarket motor mount. I'll get back to this rig soon.

Metal spur gear?
No just a bigger spur gear for better low speed control.

Yes, it can be. Some people have luck using one hole back for a quieter mesh, while still being able to have it mesh.
