Yes! As an RMIT Design ✨A✨L✨U✨M✨N✨I ✨ your experience seems pretty consistent with mine. It's funny because in creative fields pretty much all the skills can be learnt online, the biggest thing the course teaches you is the discipline to *actually* learn the stuff as well as how to work with deadlines. In our course they were very big on the fact that they're "teaching us to teach ourselves" how to do things, which is probably accurate. Also, I'm biased but my advice for people doing 3D is learn Cinema 4D and demand that the teacher let you use that instead of Maya. They won't be able to help you as much but the program is easier to learn and probably more applicable for the project application. There's so much online to help as well. Also, Cinema 4D has direct After Effects integration which makes things easier for video.
just thought I'd let you know that a lotta this year's animation first years have found this vid, and we all adore it. Theres so many spoilers for Semester 2, but oh well
This is a cute video. I'm an RMIT animation alumni myself (graduated in 2012, I know, I'm old lol) and while I never became a pro animator, I've no regrets. I utilise a lot of the skill set I developed from those days in my day-job as a freelance video editor and in my spare time drawing comics. Best of luck with the rest of your time and hopefully you don't have a massive anxiety in the middle of producing your 3rd year thesis film like I did :^P
OMG UR VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!! Im looking for Animating schools in Australia for immigrating and RMIT looks like one of the most likable choice! Really hope to see more from you, thanks for making this vid!!
I'm not an RMIT student or even an animation student but I was considering it in highschool before I was set on science, so its really interesting to get insight from a student's perspective on what the course is like, especially from Aus
hi leii, as a college student from singapore who has no plans on taking animation as a career, this was really helpful! (but really your videos are really charming and im rooting for your success for whatever you want to do!)
Man this is quite informative! I’m in my final year of nz high school (and full of dread) and have been considering school options in Aussie. Rarely ever see videos talking about student life at the schools there, so this was a neat find :D
glad you liked the video, i made this video with the intent to show animation life at rmit, because thats what i was looking for when i first applied :p
Loved this video!!! I’m at RMIT too (comm design) and whenever I walk past the animation studio rooms their classes and work looks soooooooo cool. Plus the vibes look way more chill
Holy moly this video is so cool and DESERVES Wayyy more views than it has!!!!! Im still a little confused on how uni works on a step by step bassis rn, but thank you so much for giving some extra insight oh how rmit works this will be very effective when I try to finesse all of the teachers for their jucy animation knowledge hehehe >:]
Great video, thanks for sharing this, we visited just last weekend on the open day. The lack of tables for animation is very disappointing to hear, I was blown away with the space at Swinburne for this sort of thing a couple weeks prior. Have you had to do much in the way of group work as yet?
Thank you for sharing the content about the courses! I am studying foundation at the moment and I really panic about the future. I am wondering if anything I need to preview and learn before the first year of RMIT? Anyway, thank you for your sharing. I am thrilled to hear more information about your experience!!
Great video. Are you thinking about making content on TH-cam? I think you should try it. From this video I can see you have the knack for creating content. Not only technical stuff, but try animation shorts etc. Good luck!
hahahahhah not the subway surfers caught my attention :))) This video is really informative and interesting (I subscribed :>) I applied for this July Intake 24 but still have not received any offer :(( Hope I can study at the same school as ya. Edited: Just realized that we live at the same student accommodation WTF. And the room is EXACTLY as same as mine omg omg omg.
RMIT to me is basically studying internationally and I don’t think I have the funds to support it 😭. But I really loved your video so thanks for making it
this is super informative, tysm for making this 😭 do you think you'd be able to make a video about the selection task too? i've been really interested in the course for a while
im entering digital media (with plans to specialise in animations) this october and i'm so nervous about what classes im gonna take for my first semester since im entering semester 3 instead of the usual. ur video was extremely helpful and i feel less nervous! also, are we using maya or blender for 3D projects?

Helloo I would like to ask, does RMIT require a portofolio for animation course?? also I love your art sm and hopefully I could enter RMIT next year just like you🌷(╥﹏╥)
Question- did your university require you to take a certain level of IB mathematics and/or physics? I’m an IB student too about to choose my DP subjects but I’m dookie at maths and physics lowk 😃
I’m thinking of either going to rmit or griffith university. Rmit university due to its prestige and potential industry connections (although I don’t know where to go specifically). Griffith due to its location being in Brisbane, which is where the studio that makes Bluey is located. Do you have any suggestions on where I should go? Or, if you don’t mind, would you be able to share what your plans are after graduation? I need help 🥲
Hii trying to decide if I want to go to RMIT and study this course . Really helpful in understating what I am going into if I chose it ❤ …. Can’t decide if it’s worth the cost or not
technically he is! he's the only remaining australian person after all the second years student have fused together to become him (neither confirmed nor denied)
Hello, I would like to ask which subject in the VCE program you chose to study in this field and did it take you a long time to convince your parents to allow you to study this field? ( I use gg trans so maybe it will be a little bit...)
I can't say for the VCE program because i did not study in that program. my parents were slow but accepting to me taking this course. i think maybe a few months?
I wanna become an animator and I was wondering: do you already have to know how to draw before you go to an animation school, or do they just teach you there? My problem is that I can draw things I see perfectly, but when it comes to drawing things from memory or imagination, weeell... yeah... (I really need to learn anatomy...)
specifically for rmit, they dont teach you drawing fundamentals or other technical skills like that. imo you should at least have some understanding of anatomy, perspective, etc at a basic level. you dont have to be an expert at drawing to get in to rmit, but the more skilled you are the higher your chances would be into getting into an art school. especially schools that do portfolio reviews :p if you are a couple of years away from going to uni i suggest building your fundamentals now so you'll have an easier journey in uni. hope this helps ^^
@@leiiscribs Thx, this helps a lot!! Idk if I'll be able to get professional help for drawing since next year will be very busy (my last year of high school), but I'll definitely try to improve through yt :]

Hello, I am year 11 VCE student hoping to get into RMIT Animation & Interactive Media. Have you joined any clubs or societies at RMIT? What is the social life like?
i've joined a couple clubs and events and overall everyone is nice and friendly, imo the most important thing is to do your best and put yourself out there. not everyone is going to come up to you to ask how you are, so do your best to ask people how they are and who knows, you might meet someone worth knowing ^^ shoot for the moon, at least you'll land among the stars you know?
