Here in the states, they're called swamp coolers. And I've got to say, that's the fanciest cooler I've ever seen!!! I absolutely love the design! I wonder how long it'll keep cooling. 9 degrees is a lot, in my opinion. Good luck with the Dainer Made Pallet Contest!! You know, if the pallet full of chocolate fell on a woman, there'd be no complaint!! 😂

@@SandiRose2008 That is not a swamp cooler. That's just an ice chest with ice and a fan. A swamp cooler works like this------- Evaporative coolers, also called swamp coolers, rely on this principle. By passing outdoor air over water-saturated pads, the water in the pads evaporate, reducing the air temperature by 15°- to 40°F-before it is directed into the home.

Right before I had an unscheduled heart surgery last week, my wife bought me a Bosch dual bevel glide miter saw and we're looking for a bench top planer. Please let me know, or if you are interested in building one. Your fold up workbench that you store on the wall is very interesting to me. I might get your plans if I can have that much wall space. What an interesting idea.. I would be interested to know how much it cooled the room down and over what period ..... also how long did that battery last for? if it was connected to an AC fan then you would have endless time on it opposed to only an hr or 2 of battery run time....
Thanks Tim.....A fan connected to the mains power would certainly be a better fit in regards to run time. I was actually trying to find one of those fans in the shops where l live but they were all to big for the lid of the box. I work with the garage door open so the unit is more directional rather than cooling down a whole room 👍👍
Thanks Rhys 👍 I was looking of a corded fan but even the smallest one l could find was too big fo the esky. I didn't actually wait till the ice melted but l'd assume that it would last a while. Even after the ice melted, the water would still be cold. 👍👍

Okay, Shane, the austral summer 2023-2024 is winding down and ours up here way north of you is about to crank up. So how about a report on that cooler. I have a heavy duty blower that could drive cooled air all over the double garage plus where I do my woodworking ,and since we're on the coast with rich fishing, the bait shops all sell great blocks of ice that would last a day or more, so I'm half way there already.
im looking to build a box this summer but its for a diesel heater that i have down the side of the house. i have it running through in to my rear door on the house to help with heating during the winter. i might make a box similar to this, just needs to be narrower and have a sloping top so any rain runs off.
So, use soda bottles vs ice blocks. No water mess and you can freeze them over and over. Also, For an upgrade, place you ice on a grate and direct you air to enter under the grate.

I built one of these a few years ago to keep my dog cool at night. I filled plastic bottles with water and froze them. That way, I didn't have to deal with melted ice. It was still putting out cool air each morning, after running all night.
I have a house with a sunroom, its a pergola that has been walled in with plastic blinds. It was getting hot in summer so I put a solar fan vent in the sunroom roof. Now I open a window at the front of the house and the air is dragged through a slightly open back door into the sun room. It cools the house from cross ventilation and refrigeration effect of passing air through a narrow opening. I like the design but am toying with a peltier device cooling water in heat exchanger and running this through coiled copper pipe to cool air and draw water out of the air as well. Then also running water through the heat side of the peltier to outside through a radiator .
I’m not saying I’m smart but here’s a suggestion. You’ve got all the resources for making a DIY Hilsch Vortex Tube. No need for ice and the cooling comes from separating hot and cold air. Exhaust the hot part and keep the cool inside. Just the electricity for compressing the air is needed.
Great build Ive been thinking about bulding something similiar. Just off grid. And digging a hole in the shadow/under the shop instead of ice. 🛠️But it is a bigger job... 😒
Yeah Shane; me too- helps to reduce choking from sawdust inhalation. A lot of these blokes in the States and Canada have extraction systems a la John Heisz (I probably spelt his name wrong). You know that if it’s too hot to work outside I’m probably just grabbing a coldie and forget the work. Love the idea anyway. Now to look for the ozito blower

No need for AC? Really ? apart from the record summer temps we had in the Uk last year and are likely to be more common...Aircons are increasingly popular but the decently rated portable ones are very expensive.

A drain plug is a good idea or just freeze the water in bottles. That way you won't have the water issue to deal with 👍

Yeah Shane; me too- helps to reduce choking from sawdust inhalation. A lot of these blokes in the States and Canada have extraction systems a la John Heisz (I probably spelt his name wrong). You know that if it’s too hot to work outside I’m probably just grabbing a coldie and forget the work. Love the idea anyway.

No need for AC? Really ? apart from the record summer temps we had in the Uk last year and are likely to be more common...Aircons are increasingly popular but the decently rated portable ones are very expensive.

Yes it will. This is a water cooler / swamp cooler - not an air conditioner.
