- As I said in my review of this ship, it's so far from a DD it's not even funny. That doesn't mean it's a bad ship, especially not when you get some actual DDs doing DD things.

To be fair, the fact that it's not a DD is kind of in the name. Spähkreuzer. Even the Germans didn't really want to pin themselves into calling these things destroyers. They were more ocean-going cruiser than the K-class...
true....Spähkreuzer. Well Kreuzer=Cruiser was a little confusing. Technically it was more a frigate - comparing its parameter in general.
i have no idea why they introduced it as a DD - teams getting mad for no reason for palying it not like a cap/push DD
@@2fat4airborne44 I think its more people are too dumb to realize that not everything of the same unit-type in-game will play the same way. Not all battleships play the same way. Not all cruisers play the same way. What? A DD that's not capping? HERESY!
I have no problem with a DD that doesn't play like other DDs and I welcome my team to rage at me.
In fact introducing Frigates as some sort of „Light Cruiser without a citadel“ would have made more sense as a new class of ships than introducing Submarines.
The fact that it has >50% winrate proves that it's not as useless as everyone says. Tier 10 dds have a win rate of 50.27% on average, elbing has more than that.
@@Gopichant they’ve probably siloed the classes too much to make what are essentially subclasses like frigates and battlecruisers. Which is a shame, because I’d much rather see that than subs. Or CVs tbh

Kleber with reload boots can literally melt any DD or most Cruiser, specially light ones
It's a Destroyer Leader-type light cruiser (the Tier 4 Japanese cruiser is the same general type of ship) that WG classifies as a destroyer so that it gets to not have a citadel (and thus get dumpstered on by battleships, heavy cruisers, numerous types of destroyers, and even some carriers).
Now, by itself, that could be perfectly fine, but the general state of the game means that every team has a hard cap on the number of destroyers per team and no other type of ship can effectively cap like DDs can, and DDs provide essential spotting across the map.
I think Elbing would have worked a lot better if it had been classified as a light cruiser but given an abnormally small/protected citadel, preserving its "does not get citadeled by everything" quality while not taking up a precious DD slot on a team.

Should all of them get the same treatment and become light cruisers? I think it’d be a little weird if Z-31 got the treatment, considering her name. It might be more realistic if she was dropped from the line/removed from the game and have it start at tier VIII instead. It’s not like anyone would be missing much considering how underwhelming Z-31 is.
it also gets lol-pen : how come these 150mm turrets don't get spotted like other 150mm guns, and how do they get such pen? And why is the tier 4 IJN cruiser comparatively garbage? ...

@@theworldsthreat The fundamental problem is that Wargaming removes citadels from destroyers entirely, across the board. This is fair because destroyers are really squishy as it is, so citadels as they exist for other ships would be too much. But this also means that any destroyers that don't fit the mold have balance problems.
Elbing's problem is that it counts as a destroyer (which is a precious limited resource per team, and thus needs to be able to serve the conventional roles of a destroyer--scouting, capping, spotting), which Wargaming has not figured out how to properly balance in the context of the game as a whole. Thus, Elbing takes up a hard-capped DD slot on a team while not being able to properly fill a DD role. If there was no hard-cap on DDs per team, then Elbing would be fine. By making Elbing a light cruiser with a citadel that is too hard to hit/pen (because it's underwater, tiny, or whatever), it avoids that problem.
I love the Elbing. It's basically a hard hitting cruiser that can get on the flanks and punish people.

My already unfun and fairly situational Minotaur became even more useless with this ship in the game. Seriously, why do I have to have a mountain high citadel AND zero armour when shit like elbing and overpen-Smolensk exist…
She is a small light cruiser or very large flotilla leader. Kind of like the Capitani Romani class of the Italian navy.
So many ships that actually dont belong to their class.
And when they try to play the role, they die miserably...
In a few years we will have Subs that counters CAs or DDs directly. focused in that.

Its not that light cruisers are bad. It's that players are bad and light cruisers are easy to punish.
The AA guns on Elbing are just making noise pollution.
WG hates AA cause it makes aircraft carriers less played lol. Why would WG even care for more, or less, people playing aircraft carriers? to sell premium ships? or do they have a narcissist who did the redesign and who physically can't live with the idea that they made a honest mistake?
Anything that can actually make the CV have to think is instantly disregarded by Wargaming. That's the whole reason they chose to make the damage control consumable get rid of submarine pings. Because for every ship in the game that's not a CV, that remains a real threat. For a CV, it makes submarines completely ineffective against them.
Erplen go brrrr. That's all that matters.
CVs are pay to play, for sure. They all have zero risk, but it is the premium carriers like the FDR which do truly "fun" damage to other ships.
A CV player hates risk, and just wants to harm others while being invulnerable. That begs the question of why such a person would wish to play a P2P combat game, rather than just attack AI bots instead. CV players want to do damage, but not have damage done to them. They want to be bold, but they are filled with the fear of loss. They cannot tolerate any risk of harm, even in virtual worlds.
WG sees these people as an inevitable slice of humanity, and they cater for them with specifically designed ships.
If you want to harm others, but fear harm yourself, even in a computer game, then premium CVs are for you. WG has your back. They are all about serving your type. Pay them your money, and you too can play a "combat" game where the other players cannot hit you, but you can hit them, again and again, all game.
It is truly a pathetic piece of game design.

People get so butthurt when you "good work!" them after they potato it's almost another game within the game to trigger them.
The damage this ship does to bow in ships seems quite high, like a 2.8 salvo on the jean bart with AP at 13km, feel like khaba would be in alot better place if it had some better AP and or more accurate guns

The things I've done in this game for NavyFIELD nostalgia...
One of my favourite things about it is launching torpedos and then getting a hit several minutes later when I'd forgotten about them.

@@hwg5039 You can cap in mid to late game though, spotting is also very much possible, gotta be careful for other DDs, but with a concealment of 6.5....I don't know why Flamu says that Elbing can't spot, I do it all the time and still do a lot of damage. I manage to do DD things with my Elbing pretty much every game ;)

@@TheGrandexeno A lot of times, yes. Elbing is really unique and really good at what it does, but it's not a ship I expect to carry a game. I still love it though, just for the simple fact, that it's really fun and chill to play and I can delete a Smolensk in 2 salvos, with a german ship even....The satisfaction of sweet revenge is unbeatable :D

But if you insist to do apotting, why do you use Elbing from the start?
In a particular case, sure Elbing can spot, but it can't do much.
Spot and torp? The torp is easy to dodge because it is slow.
Gunning in the smoke? Remember that said it is supposed to be spotting, if you open smoke, there is a high chance you will lose the target because of own smoke
6.5 km concealment means you can be outspotted by a lot of DDs and smoke is a torp magnet.
Getting too close, and you can't run away from the enemies, you have big turning circle and slow acceleration.
Your AP will overpen DD from close range while your HE deals small damage.
As Flamu said, "...embrace that this is not DD..."
It has great AP with great balistic and range, you need to play this like a cruiser.

The Elbing seems like a British Royal Navy 4th rate ship, or a razee. Used a 'command frigate' for a flotilla and other uses, of course. (Hi, Jingles, I'll go back to the salt mines now.)

Flamu: Typical Elbing game: farm and lose. We are losing this game.
I have a 70% win rate in both T9 and the Elbing and I enjoy them both. Chunking primary ships is the way. It is contributing. I only have a 58% win rate overall.
Wasn't really won by flamu though, all he did was farm damage. Without the caps done by the Venezia and Montana it would have been a loss.
My one big gripe with the Elbing:
KMS DDs - Hydro
KMS Cruisers - Hydro
KMS BBs - Hydro
Elbing - DFAA....
Just... why!?
I know you're not really good at fighting DDs, but the least they could have done is give it a tool to spot incoming torps since you're anyway so bad at concealment vs any other DD in the game.

Doesn't really have any overmatch power(unless target is brit light CL), 28 knots speed is meh, second smallest guns for a BB at tier X, Meh torp belt, Meh turning circle, AA underwhelming after "glorious CV rework", slow shells, No improved pen angles, Still stuck with 30 second reload.
Montana as it is right now is average at best and frankly subpar against what it has to fight more often then not.

I was the opposing team's CV player in this match, and i did noticed my planes got shot down quite easly by Flamu there. So are you not supposed to follow the dark clouds that pops up to avoid the damage to your planes? Because the dark cloud is the residues of an explosion, so being right on top of it would mean i avoided the explosion right? They already detonated, you know what i mean? If they do damage, WG should remove them, because it makes no sense that mere flak would hurt an WWII aircraft. Not to mention our planes already takes continued and unavoidable damage, taking more damage from those hard to escape big black clouds would be too hard. Meanwhile the surface ships would just sit and farm the planes, not having to do anything, just dodging one or another torpedo and bomb strike. Lets be honest, Flamu only had a good game there because my planes just couldn't shut him down as they were supposed to. Doesnt seems fair to me, and im pretty sure Flamu himself knows it. But i guess WG just doesnt care for us CV players anymore. I wonder why we continue to play this biased against CVs game when we could be sniffing glue full time.

@Flamu I've played close to 1200 games in the Kamikaze R. Not proud of that, just a fun low tier ship, to seal club in. It took 996 games before the 6 drunk Japanese Marines, with Nambu rifles to finally shoot down their first plane! The very next game they shoot down 2! Since then and well over 200 games later, total planes killed sits at 3. AA rating is 1, with like a 1km bubble. I don't want to hear how bad your AA is :P

Everytime I see ships like Elbing I am like "who would ever build such a thing???", and them I am like "yeah, this game that has a german cv line sooooo..."
Its not even a destroyer so the idea of the ship itself isn’t the questionable one, but rather WG putting it as a dd. Or just all the people who don’t understand what this ship is.
The german CV line goes from "technically existed" through "somewhat plausible" to "batshit crazy" in no particular order. But that's what you get when you're forced to come up with CV conversions for BB designs that even the germans thought were too insane to actually build.
At least 3 of the German CV's were real designs, being Zeppelin and the tier 4/6 tech tree ones
