There's an editing mistake at 7 min where I skipped getting the goal -- sorry -- you didn't miss anything other than me making the jump then selecting the next level. Editing is hard, took me all morning to do, and now I need to stream, then pack for a trip :)

Yay! Carl is going to play Grand Poo World 1 and 2, other romhacks, and super expert levels on SMM2. The return of Carl playing Barb levels has returned so he needs to get back to SMM1 and clear all of barb's levels before SMM1 turns off next year. Honestly, I think it's better this way. We saw the end and everything that leads up to it. But then we see one final troll and then hard cut I'm done with you.
After watching all those troll levels it makes you forget just how good Carl is at Mario

Honestly, I just love Carl’s genuine excitement and love for Kaizo romhacks. I mean his energy is always amazing across all the games, but even these difficult multi-death gameplays, he’s still so engaged and enthusiastic. It’s always enjoyable to watch.

The sad thing is that unlike most remakes, Mario RPG had a lot of love and care put into being as faithful to the original and as modern as possible. It's what a AAA remake should be.
@@SoulHero7 "Faithful to the original", really? What I see is that they've taken a game that was already fairly easy and made it braindead. Pie is having to rethink the rules for low level challenge runs because of all the things they've added that make it way too easy. Is that what "modern" means? I'll take GPW3.
On the one hand, yes, amazing.
On the other, I'd be really sad if Nintendo tried to start doing something about it. I love Kaizo and the Kaizo community. It's one of a couple things I really enjoy.
@@AmethystEnd Most of the fun of Mario RPG comes from the story and character interactions. I haven't seen the new post-game content other than Cluex but I was never expecting Shin Megami Tensei levels of hard from the remake anyways. As long as I got to see silly stuff like Bowser kissing Mario in HD, it did it's job imo.

Well yes, but actually no. The song playing is "The Man Who Sold The World". As some folks in chat mentioned, Nirvana did a great cover of it but it's originally by David Bowie.
I sometimes forget that while Carl loves his content coins and can be blind as a bat in troll levels to the point of where I'll be like, "I probably could do this so much faster" (I could not), he's actually an insanely good Mario player, up there with Juzcook, Panga, Barb, etc...
Then videos like these come out and remind me that yeah, there's no way I'm good enough to be doing that lol
For the record, as someone who's been recently trying to get into Kaizo, you'd be surprised! There's a lot of really good introductory kaizo hacks and it really feels like there's an actual path to the summit these players are on. Biggest misconception I've found when learning is that these players are really good at "mario", when honestly normal mario play and kaizo are basically different genre's lol. Not to say these players aren't really good at Mario, just that you sucking at playing Mario normally doesn't have much to do with kaizo.
Just a bit of positivity.
Also I'm not good, I'm so bad at platformers lol.
I subscribed for the Kaizo many years ago. It has been fun to watch troll levels, but I really REALLY miss the "cool level" series and the Kaizo stuff. It's nice to see some more of this.
I needed that reminder; even after playing mainly troll levels and puzzles all the time, Carl picks up this kaizo game and makes it look easy. I've seen some dedicated kaizo streamers struggle more on this game than Carl did! I hope he plays more hard stuff in the future to remind us all how freaking good he is.
Carl is actually one of the best Kaizo players out there, and it's because he shares something in common with Panga, they both remember every mechanic, but unlike Panga, his commentary is actually fun. (Sorry Panga, but you managed to put me to sleep on stream more than once.)
I remember starting watching your channel all the way back when you started playing Kaizo 3 (I think I was in middle school back then haha), so it's pretty cool to be an adult still watching you play kaizo mario. It's awesome how much you and the channel have grown since then!

Can confirm that I did not grow up with SMW. Although im old enough. Started playing Kaizo 2 years ago and the control you have over your character is just astounding and so fun. What a learning curve. Feels like impossible trash when you start, but as you push through it just gets more and more fun to control Mario. I think it is phenomenal compared even to a lot of modern platformers. But especially for a 30 year old game that I have zero nostalgia for and never played until I was in my late 20s.
Yeah smw is really janky and requires alot of practice. Just to understand how to do the jumps/regrabs or the basics for simple hacks.
@@stompingpeak2043 exactly. So rewarding though. As a life-long gamer, I don't at all regret buying a Super NT and an ever drive. Best $500 or so ever spent.

Barb is so brilliant. My favorite moment is watching him rage after hours of building on poly bridge 3, he finds the easiest way. I was rotflmao more than the carl vs poo hot carl collab.

Holy fuck...thanks barb and this community...I've been watching grandpoobear playing this on release...I've had to bounce back and forth between you guys to see how you're all enjoying it...and it truly is iconic and a treasure...mario was my first game ever played...so all I can say is thank you all for this high level of play, creation, dedication, and love.
There needs to be an overworld troll where if you are idle for too long a cluster chuck spawns like a SMB overworld hammer bros and moves right to Mario's tile.
I thought what was going to happen when you got to the THE END screen was that was the actual end of that version and barb was gonna be like “oh sorry, sent you the wrong version” then make you replay up to that point after downloading the right one lol

I remember going to a friend's house when I was younger, and passing the controller back and forth to play Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the first time. That Christmas, I got my own NES and it was one of the first games I owned. I miss those games sometimes. Even the weird ones like Excitebike and Mach Rider.

I just realized the first level incorporates Shanghai Teahouse from touhou 6 into the end of ken's theme. They have too much power.

Always love to see the creativity, difficulty, and fun drilled into these level designs combined with with the great skill and reaction of those playing them. Very impressive and highly enjoyable. (And thanks for bringing back “I Believe” at the close!)

I started playing this last night too, I’m a big fan of this hack!
I was VERY SUS at the end of the 3rd level, because of SMW central listing of GPW3 as 3 exits. I found the sekrut right away without the hint and Barb told me to touch grass.
Fun fact! Celeste has something similar to a float jump, called a slow fall, though it works a bit differently. For a slow fall you just need to keep jump held, and if your vertical velocity is small enough, your gravity will get cut in half
had lots of fun watching this video! The editing reminded me of the your old editing style, with the slow motion and pacing.
Just to comment after 1 minute: I absolutely LOVE the over-world music. It brings me back to my nostalgic and beloved SNES game, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals

I’ve only played a couple of Kaizo Hacks before this one but Carl, GBP, Juz, and others always have encouraged newer gamers not to give up. Im only 15 exits in without using save states. It’s taking me 5x as long but I’m hoping to finish it this year.

I've been working on a hack for over a year and I had this same idea for an overworld, now I'm seeing it here done 10x better than I would've ever done it and want to quit lol.

As someone who didn't grow up playing Super Mario World, it feels very awkward to me, but it's still fun. I had the same issue with Mario 64 too, it feels weird to control. I'm far more used to the original Mario Bros. controls, so that feels "normal" to me.

I think the Airship was actually Final Fantasy 6/4, not chrono trigger, but... yeah. That was awesome.
FF4 main theme was used when Mario was on the ground. Then when the airship lifted off, it was the Epoch theme from Chrono Trigger. So they were both there :-)
