Crumpets always have to be toasted Can’t believe you tried them without toasting first! Good with melted cheese on too.
Even better with lurpack butter
Not toasting crumpets is blasphemy!
Toast your crumpets more. They need to be golden brown so they're crispy on top and bottom not rubbery they're tricky to get just right but better slightly overdone than underdone. Only for toasting. Don't eat without toasting.
Good introduction to proper British 'banter' and 'taking the mick' regarding the controversial breakfast combination - Its truly a sign of comfort and affection 😂
BTW; I lived in California for two years and was given the same reception on the other side of the "pond" just by opening my mouth and being treated like Royalty! Anyway I made some good friends in California!

UK citizen are welcoming and kind. There also funny and have good sense of humor. Im American and lived here 20 years now. Most us Americans blood lines are from the British Isles, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland, Scandinavia, various regions in Europe. We came over on a boat and settle in the wild wild west LOL years and years ago.

Sweet scones are for jam and clotted cream. You can make savoury scones too, the best known ones are cheese scones so you were being somewhat misinformed. That said, not toasting scones can get you sent to the Tower! 💂

I’d just like to point out that the café at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall sells cheese scones as a savoury alternative to jam and cream. Very tasty, actually!

Minack theatre is one of the most impressive places I’ve visited!
My Mum makes cheese scones like none I’ve had before, she uses extremely strong cheddar and substitutes half of the cheddar for Parmesan- before they go into the oven she puts a big pile of the Parmesan/cheddar mix on top of each scone so it melts down the sides and bakes them so they’re so crisp and dark! 🤤
Savoury scones are older than sweet scones, we've not had sugar as long as we've had cheese.

Mate … that roasting pig is kind of a national dish … if you ever see one again, run as fast as you can ‘coz the queue gets big very quick!!
Apart from THE BEST (I guarantee you!!!!) pork flame cooked, ask for a bit of crackling, and DEFINITELY get Apple sauce .… even if you put it on the side of a plate in case it’s not your taste, but you must at least TRY it … it usually goes straight in the bun, but if you’re unsure of it just have it on the side 👍👍

I thought everyone’s reaction to your savoury scone idea was hilarious. I thought it would have been yummy. I reckon a scone is kinda like a biscuit, just waiting to be smothered in gravy! Fun times.
The older savoury scone recipe is to all intents and purposes the same as an American biscuit, the best ones are cheese scones made with the most vintage West Country Cheddar you can get. Her real crime was not toasting the crumpets, that's akin to punching the monarch in the face then taking a dump in a Royal Guard's hat.

UK Scone have more sugar (sweet), typical topping jam and cream. Cheese and avocado and egg on a scone, would go better on the scones that the US call "biscuits", basically scones lacking sugar (savoury).
Americans do tend go put all if the meal on the ssme place - bacon, eggs, etc. but also the toast and jam

I have to try her crumpet recipe of not cooking cause there is something about butter and jam that MIKE make even the worst smell taste better but untoasted I’m not convinced the whole point is supposed to drip through and give you like really dirty hands and yeah however I will say this you guys are intoxicating. my missus is American and even after 17 years here in the UKshe still doesn't understand "food rules"! I regular come into the house and have to ask, what on earth are you eating?
If you like crumpets, Trader Joe’s sell them. Not as good as UK crumpets but good enough.
