I’d just like to point out that the café at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall sells cheese scones as a savoury alternative to jam and cream. Very tasty, actually!
Minack theatre is one of the most impressive places I’ve visited! My Mum makes cheese scones like none I’ve had before, she uses extremely strong cheddar and substitutes half of the cheddar for Parmesan- before they go into the oven she puts a big pile of the Parmesan/cheddar mix on top of each scone so it melts down the sides and bakes them so they’re so crisp and dark! 🤤
BTW; I lived in California for two years and was given the same reception on the other side of the "pond" just by opening my mouth and being treated like Royalty! Anyway I made some good friends in California!

No two are the same! But everyone was so kind and welcoming. So cool. All these unwritten rules for scones! UK Scone have more sugar (sweet), typical topping jam and cream. Cheese and avocado and egg on a scone, would go better on the scones that the US call "biscuits", basically scones lacking sugar (savoury).
