An often overlooked factor for SA rugby development is that rugby is a winter sport. In SA, most of the country has a cold, dry winter. So temps will be around 12 celcius, with no rainfall. This means the ground gets RIDICULOUSLY hard. A lot of grassroots rugby gets played on pitches with almost no grass which is almost like playing on cement. It makes you a lot tougher as opposed to Northern hemisphere rugby, which is played in very wet winters where you tend to have a soft landing from tackles
I remember playing kaalvoet rugby in primary school, when the grass was white with frost in the early morning, and our footprints could be seen all over the field as the game went on.
@@mjdouglas9665 I have a core memory, we were U16 and for some reason got put against an U18 2nd team on a free State tour. I caught the first kickoff with not enough time to return, so took it into contact thinking "let's run another phase and I'll kick for touch from a better position". My Bru, I got hit so hard in the first tackle of the game that I made a choice right then that I wouldn't be running a single ball the rest of the game 😂 I Naas'd out of that one
It was like not looking left, and then right, before crossing the bus lane. Walked right into the 10 o’clock bus!😮😮😮😮. Enough to quit schoolboy rugger!
I really like the look of Gumede, I hope he gets his chances with the Boks, but I feel like there is just too much competition for those backrow positions at the moment.
A good coach will play him successfully out of position. A lot of players have had world class careers after being moved from their natural position by a genius coach.
I love that defensive juggernaut. Clears up any doubt in the opposition. It’s good to have panic in the mind of the opposition when they have the ball.
Absolutely! All Willie had to do was to draw his man and pass. Perhaps he didn't rate his winger... Oh wait, it was Cheslin Kolbe! Willie needs to get his 100 games (2 more, currently), then retire.
As a Bosch boy I don't enjoy giving props to a Bishops boy but damn Sacha FM is a frikking beast! Wish him all the best! Potential to take SA to new levels!
Impressed by Gumede. Unlike Willie, he seems to have peripheral vision, awareness of where his support is, and he offloads when he sees that he cannot make it himself
This was a well done highlights movie. Thank you for playing nice music (not club music). I have so much optimism for the future of the Springboks. One of my best friends is a kiwi and I actually feel sorry him these days 😂
I have never seen anyone like this Bathibile Hlekana. This guy is going to change everything. I hope they don't delay him as they often do with extremely talented black players
Who are these players? Siya was 22 on debut, is that holding him back? Or Am and nche 23? Vermuelen and Ler roux were 26. You will probably be the first guy in here complaining should he get pushed through too early and it damaging his confidence.
Its a close one between Ethan Hooker and Henco van Wyk. I expect them both to be in the mix with Julius in the future. What we need is a world class 9 to come through. We have about 5 excellent scrumhalves but no-one who would be in a world xv conversation like we have across the park in other positions.
Agree with everything you've said. I do think that Jaden Hendrikse has the ability to be a world-class 9 though. He doesn't actually seem to lack in any particular areas, and his kicking is already better than any other 9 in SA.
In my youth in SA, I never got to see many players of colour, but man they have shown up in numbers since Rassie the reigns, and they are simply awesome. And make Boks incredible team. Just seen many players that will be at the RWC 2027.
Wait just a second. Are you trying to tell me that the Bloem Props who got their first caps against Portugal aren't the only forwards we have that move as fast as backline players?
competition for the 6 7 8 jersey will be very interesting in 2 years time... i see lots of talent there... good chance Hanekom can be the long term answer at 8... if he keeps doing the simple things right and hitting the rucks hard....
some very scary stuff from the babies. Divan Fuller - is he the next PSDT??? all cards on the table though, i genuinely think PSDT is the best player in the back row but not just that, the damned evergreen engine he has makes him a monster on defence i wonder who will replace him when he hangs his boots, as he truly is a titan on the field
Renzo and Sacha! Wow. Renzo is a tank. Sacha is a locust ;) We all know its down to the vleis, sunshine, patriotism, and the freespirited mense that makes our boys strong! And the fine woman. ;)
South Africa is the rugby playing country with the biggest population. The UK with a population slightly more than South Africa consists of England, Wales, Scotland. There is only one South Africa with a population of 60 million people to choose from.
SA rugby has done wonders in the last 30 years building development. The talent coming out of this country is absolutely insane. And unfortunately rugby seems to be on the decline in so many other nations. I feel like life is going to be tough in rugby terms for the rest of the world for the foreseeable future! 😂
Jurenzo Julius has potential but he was badly exposed by better teams than Fiji and Argentina. Sascha has also shown that he has a bit to go to make the no10 Bok jersey his. Had two very average games against the AB's. Du Plessis, Gumede, Fuller and especially Mars are very exciting future prospects.
Jurenzo has some work to do I agree, but has the potential to be a phenomenon...he's only 20 and has had a really solid start with the Sharks in the Currie Cup this season. Mars I don't see it...Hooker though I have huge hopes for...
My prediction. Shasa is going to have a long career. Boogeyman three or so seasons and nobody wil remember him. I'm open to anyone to proof me wrong and I will admit it
