Looking at the last 10 minutes of this game the French just fell apart and it seems it was a combination of pressure and fitness. The Boks looked super comfortable playing at this intensity and were just managing the game.
To be honest, in the last 10 min, french players were very good and the south Africans were playing with the rules to the limit to stop french players to play correctly. It is very frustrating to see the no decision from the referee to give a penalty for France after all the game slowdown from SA
@@antoinerousset1948where was the slowdown, we were better in setpiece and France knew this and that's why they were depressed as well our defence held from last French try all to last 10m where we started getting gaps in defence. Fascinating how SA exposed the French under the high ball twice in the first half both times resulting in tries. Such contestable 50/50 kicks had to be dealt with better by ideally the fullback or the French left winger. SA’s 3rd try to Kolbie also resulted from pressure creating a turnover and brilliant awareness of space by Jesse Kriel.

@@ainohaste no knock on there, good call from the ref. You can't judge by the lines because of the angle and the fact that the ball is in the air. The biggest give away that it was backwards was the motion of his hands back towards his own line.
Thank you, World Rugby. Now, please upload the match when we (Springboks) faced Ireland. I love that match more than this one because although we lost and I was fuming at the time. The quality of play and the intensity was unreal. Yes, we missed crucial kicks at goal, and Ireland's lineout wasn't functioning, but apart from that, the game was insanely good. People (except Irish fans) forget this game because it didn't have a lot on the line, but in my opinion, it was the best game of the World Cup.
16:11 and 16:50 Danty is clearly hit in the face by Du Toit (either head to head or shoulder to head). He is the vulnerable player as he is on the ground, and we see that he is getting treated for a head injury. How did the TMO miss that and how was that not a red I don't know. Cherry on the cake Dupont asks the referee to review the play and he denies him that request even though there was clearly foul play
O'Keefe clearly says "Do not ask me for that, TMO checked, no foul play", either the TMO did not check (I do not blame them it was hard to spot on live play) and O'Keefe is lying (we do not hear him have a conversation we the TMO regarding that play), or the TMO is blatantly incompetent. In any case the play should have been reviewed, we have got all the time in the world no need to rush and instead it was rushed the french captain was not heard and obviously this was controversial
They cut the camera just before the hit, that's a scandal. That was a red card 100%, copy and paste of the same action between with the same players a couple of match before.
@@bastbe2764 100% ok ! Probably the most neck and neck RWC match ever played. High calibre from both teams but the Boks just had that little bit extra. Talk about calm under pressure !! Boks Forever.
Thanks for your honesty. As a French, it is impossible to criticize the referee without passing for a bad loser. The level of exchanges here is distressing. Even when the errors of arbitrations are of the level of amateur rugby matches, one cannot argue without being called all the names.
Incorrect. The law and bylaws doesn't stipulate no hands on the ground at a ruck. You are permitted but what you can't do is place your hands beyound the ball and draw your hands back to play the ball. That is a penalty. Smiths hands was one on the ball and one on the side of the ball making it a legal play for the ball.
@@roydenjacoby5681 That's never how the law is enforced. Same with 'use it' and being a 5s warning. This was blatant referee inconsistency and it caused France to lose. Simple as.
@@roydenjacoby5681 Completely. Missed. The. Point. It's blatant inconsistency. Throughout the tournament, THAT has been penalised. Idc what is written in the rules. It's like a referee deciding that hookers must always hook the ball because it's the 'law' when we all know that that is not enforced. France were robbed
As a French supporter it's frustrating to have such a nicely built-up side, maybe the best french side so far, and still seeing them fall short. No disrespect to the other top 4 teams but I think this was the real RWC final, and it happened way too early in the competition. I question myself : why should the RWC draw take place 2 years prior to the event ? With a totally different WR ranking ? It had us see the top 4 teams in 2 groups, and led us to a really bizarre QF draw. (WAL v ARG ? Really ?) Just like the french football team built on the euro 2016 final loss, I believe Galthié, Dupont, Alldritt and the u20RWC champs coming up will raise the bar even more and build a French Rugby Legacy like never before. We have a great squad coming and one day it will be us.
It is the best French team in my lifetime, and at a time where NZ are slightly off their best they just ran into unfortunately the best Bok side of my lifetime. Realistically I think SA were the only team that could have beat you in the WC, maybe Ireland as well but it would have to have been a very lucky day for them (as it was for us in some ways). It should have been the final, what an unbelievable match, and of all the NH teams I would have been happiest for France to win it if it wasn't us. This is a young team as well, so hopefully they bounce back. But I also hope we can do 3 in a row in 2027!
Bro you argument may seem valid but its just not. It falls flat when you realize that this is a competition and if you are to be worthy you have to be able to beat the best. There are no excuses in competition, there only winners and losers. Swallow your pride, take the loss, the better team won and go next time. That is competition, welcome.

Thanks for this, France took a knock physically and emotionally after the loss, you can clearly see that they are not the same team in the six nations.
That slap back by Etzebeth was a seriously phenomenal play. His physicality is obvious but he doesn't get nearly enough credit for his game sense. The guy's rugby IQ is off the charts.
O'Keefe could have given an intentional knock on, penalty try and yellow card to Eben and the video would not have overturned that call. I was surprised Dupont did not ask for more scrutiny. I thought it went forward. The blocked conversion was crazy and the French made a number of mental mistakes you cannot afford to make against the Boks, terrible under the high balls. AB fan here, but I believe the boks are the best in the world at the moment and deserve the RWC title. This was a great test, I thought Boks v Ireland and ABs v Ireland were also outstanding. To me the best match of all time was the 2015 semi, ABs v Boks.

ballsy but didn't have any impact
Just seeing the thumbnail and title brought a smile to my face in 2024 :) Cheers for posting!
Yeah, lots of endorphins and happy memories. I nearly died of stress at the end.
Given the context, this is surely the greatest rugby match ever played. The quality of play from both sides was just off the charts. That first half.....wow!
No. The Springboks created nothing as always and just fed off mistakes. Definitely not the greatest game when one team is just laying and preying while the other team does all the attacking.
The Ireland v All Blacks game was better. Two attacking teams attacking.

watching this game again and still on the edge of my seat... Good lord what a game...
what a fraud. World rugby admited 5 gross refereeing mistakes.
In 1 point match how can you not see how fraudulent it is.
benokeefe never asking TMO and Kolbe faster than Usain bolt : World Rugby admitted it was wrong...
The history of the great sport of rugby is littered with great epic encounters, but this... but this rises above all. So much for me so that i am still scared to watch it again. And i suspect that won't change until i see anything similar again. 😢
Spine chilling.
Bok discipline at the end was phenomenal. That's something they've sorted out over the last decade or so.
Best rugby game ever watched like over 20 times
in my country, rugby is not a popular sport, but I hope I can recognize a top sport, hats off to the RSA national team
SA definitely had a better bench, and regarding fitness one additionnal week to rest before the match if I recall correctly
@@antoinerousset1948where was the slowdown, we were better in setpiece and France knew this and that's why they were depressed as well our defence held from last French try all to last 10m where we started getting gaps in defence. If your on about the scrum collapse, the reff paused watch every time.
Vous avez raisons, par contre un joueur français joue plus souvent sur une saison et à moins de temps de repos. K intensité est plus importante dans l emisphere sud et avec plus de repos
1:21:42 I guess this didn’t help the French being higly motivated in the very last minutes
Thnks bokke for the great memories!
This game is the gift that just keeps on giving!

By far the greatest rugby 🏉 match ever played 🎉

Greatest game of rugby of all time.
Hats off to the French too 🙏🏾
I love how they do the on field reviews. Big and everyone can see and clear explanations. Plus the respect the refs have is great to see. I love this game ❤

Beat game of rugby that has ever been played.
Back and forth a nail-biter until the end between 2 great teams.
6:15 that's a knock on ! what is the result of a knock on at 5m from the try line ?
Yellow card
But the ball was knocked backwards so how was it suppose to be a yellow card?😢
6:13 Dupont (2m from the try line) pass to Penaud who is on the 5m line. then the pass is intercepted by Etzebeth that jump, he is behind the 5m line (his shadow and the ball fall about 50cm forward, and then the N°7 dive to catch the ball and make another knock on.
@@ainohaste no knock on there, good call from the ref. You can't judge by the lines because of the angle and the fact that the ball is in the air. The biggest give away that it was backwards was the motion of his hands back towards his own line.
Man, it's good to watch this game again, nail biting stuff! Our Bokke did us proud. The entire power team👍

France is rough, yoh! South Africa definitely earned its keep here. Congratulations, Springboks!🇿🇦
nope played 16 vs 15 with yur best player benokefe.
You have to wait for July.
Posting this feels like it would get France down even more than they already are right now

the best match ive watched. epic thriller
What a game from France. They deserved better
No team deserves anything. You play the game to the end and that's it. Sad if you don't win, but the team with more points on the board deserves it
16:11 and 16:50 Danty is clearly hit in the face by Du Toit (either head to head or shoulder to head).
TMO has gone for a bear, once more.
They cut the camera just before the hit, that's a scandal. That was a red card 100%, copy and paste of the same action between with the same players a couple of match before.
@@bastbe2764 100% ok ! Head contact from Du Toit to Danty (comme à Marseille).
- TMO asked o'Keeffe : "The time is off, we'll put our hands up, ok ??"
- Flament and Ollivon also asked o'Keeffe to pause...
- o'Keeffe replied "No, cause there is nothing for that, TMO checked, no foul play, we continue"
It was a lie because TMO hadn't said anything else yet !!
ET EN PLUS, on prend la pénalité contre nous.
Cry me a river, so you cant win against SA even though we were 14 men on the field for 10min, so you want to take another player off for another 10 and think that is the only way you can win, pathetic French, go surrender to Germany

Pap en wors m'chana,
Mostert doesn't miss 💪Overlooked by most.
1:09:41 I wonder why this tackle was not reviewed on Pieter-Steph du Toit by Damian Penaud? The SA player went off for a HIA and there was no review or replay of this??
It was a clear head clash and Penaud did not bend down to tackle correctly and should have been sent off clear as day!
same as the H2H on Eben when scoring guy dives off his feet for a headclash
Yeah i agree with you but previously at 16:08 Steph du Toit almost killed Danty 💀💀. I do not like this southern hemisphere rugby refeering where refeeres look at big faults and do nothing, and it seems that TMO is useless on head contacts 😑
@@etienneb1255 Danty was playing the ball on the ground and gave a penalty away and he did not go off for a HIA.
Une belle victoire des Boks. Courage et abnégation dans un contexte difficile chez le pays hôte... Respect.
This is the greatest rugby match I ever saw. This match shows that this special Springbok is the Greatest Rugby Team Ever. These scenes will flash by me on my deathbed:
- Heart pounding pace of the first half
- Cheslin charging down Ramos
- Mannie kicks going through (we were so stressed for him 😅)
- hand of Eben to smack it back
- The Kwagga Theory
- The tactical substitutions of the Springboks for HIAs
Pure genius by Rassie and the Team.
And the calling of a scrum off a mark! I had never seen that before. Didn't even know it was an option.

The SA penalty at 67' is the game-defining moment and is all wrong. Clear hands on the floor 1:21:38. Feel sorry for the French. Good game
Simple as.
@@James-sw9vm Go read up on the laws and what I'm saying is verified by many experts. It was the correct call.
@@roydenjacoby5681 Completely. Missed. The. Point. It's blatant inconsistency. Throughout the tournament, THAT has been penalised. Idc what is written in the rules. It's like a referee deciding that hookers must always hook the ball because it's the 'law' when we all know that that is not enforced. France were robbed
The boos went silent when Polard converted,🤣🤣
Fist thing you learn in SA rugby is never to boo.

Really ?)
Just like the french football team built on the euro 2016 final loss, I believe Galthié, Dupont, Alldritt and the u20RWC champs coming up will raise the bar even more and build a French Rugby Legacy like never before.
