- TM Krishna was the headlining artiste at the FEA-curated PARALLEL LINES concert in Pune.He opened his recital with a Muthuswami Dikshitar composition in Raga Purvi.
Krishna was accompanied by Akkarai Subhalakshmi on violin, Praveen Sparsh on mridangam and BS Purushotham on kanjira. Tanpura support was provided by Bhargavi Venkatram and Gauri Deshpande.
I'm no expert, but I never heard another Carnatic singer render compositions with such tenderness, such flowing abandon to the Rasa, such relaxed tempos, or such sensitive, modest and concentrated accompanists. I'm definitely a fan.
My sister was named Purvi...and all of us did not understand the full extent of her name...we know she has the heart of gold
Akarai Subbalakshmi and TM are such exceptional musicians. Truly astounding bhava and rasa they extract from every raga

its sometimes natural, but I felt his characteristics need at least two mic or a collar mic
havent paid attention, buts that's likely...there have been other places in other recitals..though it is rare...For me however, it has never detracted from the authenitcity of his manodharma and sheer aesthetic appreciation of what he is attempting in each presentation..And he would probably agree that each time it is an exploration into the unknown.Most times he pulls it off and sometimes it doesnt work so well.
Excellent elaboration of a raga and a krithi, rarely touched by any musician. And, the entire team providing superb support. However, TMK Ji's performance can ONLY BE LISTENED AND NOT WATCHED for the simple reason, the expression of great struggle in his face and unusual mannerisms are too irritative and takes away the pleasantness, an important facet of music. Eventually, music is all about pleasantness, it's object being to spread a pleasant feeling. Not only he, even the accompanying artistes seem to be struggling. The whole dias seem to be a platforms of struggle and leaves the audience wondering if music is such a struggle. And, the audience is forced to live through a struggle. There are some artistes who exhibit similar struggle or wierd mannerisms or violent body shakes while performing, with the result the pleasantness of the whole atmosphere is vitiated. On the contrary, there are more brilliant performers who are composed and pleasant while performing, like Vidwans Kaushiki, HK Venkatram (dad of Bhargavi playing tanpura here and herself a distinguished singer), Charumathi, Akkarai sisters (one on this dias), MS amma, MLV amma, whose names come to my mind immediately. Trust, the distinguished musicians will take this observation in the right spirit and bring pleasantness to music, and not make it an exercise in misery🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why get distracted by visuals. Listen with the eyes closed. Our distractions are our problem..Tmk rarely sings in safe zones...he will push the edges.

In TMK's concerts, Bhargavi Venkatram playing the tambura invariably draws unneeded attention to herself with exaggerated head movements (made worse by a dangler) and singing along. Shut up and play the tambura and sit still,
