I'm a rising freshman w literally no playing experience but I've been practicing all summer super hard and I still can't serve lmao anyway tryouts r literally tmrw thru Friday and I'm super nervous but I'm gonna update if I made it or not day 1 - I was really good at passing but not so great at serving and I sucked at hitting omg day 2 - not a great setter but not the worst, again, serving is a bit of a struggle and hitting still isn't my thing, plus we get our letters saying if we got cut or not tomorrow I'm super nervous day 3- YALL I DIDNT GET CUTT also we played like 6 on 6 but shuttle version ig?? anyway, i got three balls over so that was good!! I'm surprised i got thru the initial cut but they're only accepting 10 ppl and I'm not sure how many people got cut so there could be 20 people or there could only be 10 tomorrow, IDK but we get our results saying if we got in either tomorrow or Friday I'm super nervous. day 4 - ok soo basically there were 16 girls there, and I'm like really disappointed w myself bc I practiced for soo long before and my serves were REALLY good and going over the net each time, but then I went to tryouts and none of my serves were going over!! I was literally so upset bc I practiced for nothing bruh.. also we were doing like a pass, set, hit, defense thing and every time I was hitting the coach would be like "make sure to get to the ball!" but the thing is the people that were set to me were fr setting almost 30 feet behind me like tf?? and when I was getting tossed the ball it was always a horrible toss so when i passed it, it never went over the net, and I was super pissed but anyway everyone else did way better than me today but we get our results tmrw, and I'm like 75% sure I didn't get in.. but um yea I'm gonna update tomorrow (and btw don't worry! everyone has off days but it was still upsetting) day 5- yeah so i didn’t get in, but tbh 2 other girls were not as good as me so i’m not sure why they got in and i didn’t. i also did like REALLY goof today way better then any of my other days literally like i passed and set like 30 times in a row with my partner and when we played 4 on 4 i got almost every ball over the net and i did really good lol but anyway my friend got in and idk i’m pretty sad cuz now i have to do club but i’m gonna make it next year i hope

this reminds me sm of one of my local club teams. i tried out and stuff as you do and put in all the effort. Almost all of the people who got on were a teachers kid or had played for them the year previous (I didn't.) This one girl who got on the team, WAS THE NEICE OF THE COACH AND THATS WHY SHE GOT ON. she wouldn't call the ball, couldnt get serves over then net (I could), and overall didnt put it much effort.

one thing i see a lot (in myself and others) is that the toss for your serve typically will dictate how good (or not so good) your service will be, you know? a good toss: a toss that’s not too high and above your dominate hand = will be a good serve a bad toss: a toss that’s way too high or way too low, too far in front of you or far behind you = will likely be a mis-serve
Also for your serve wherever your hand ends is where the ball will go. If you get a bad toss let it drop! Then serve on the next one. When passing always get behind the ball. Be loud and call the ball when you’re going to get it like Mine! Got it! Me me me! Also when passing don’t swing your arms. If you’re hitting keep a strong wrist and make sure your hand is open.
got tryouts in 2 weeks and like my upper hand serve is not looking to good- been practicing all summer but I still can't get it right plus this is my first time trying out In like 3 years lmao. *help me.*
@@losersclub3693 literally this was me 😭 something that helps with straightening a serve is watching where your hand finishes. if you serve and your hand is facing the wall, that’s where it’s gonna go, you know? also, if a serve isn’t high enough, it means the toss is too low, OR your hand isn’t contacting it at its highest. sorry it’s a lot, i can do a video on it if you want! you got this💪

well first thing i would recommend is to be a practice player! you can play in all the practices and watch all the games. btw why do you hate comps?
